Saw this on tv when I was a kid and couldn't take my eyes off the screen. A real thriller. Just look at the cast! Top it off with score by the late great Jerry Goldsmith and you can't go wrong.

I was a big Allistair Maclean fan as a kid. I was aware of this one, but hadn't watched it, yet. Thanks for uploading.

Excellent music & title sequence! Good sci-fi thriller, and I love the Cinemascope shots of the desert.

It is nice to see the Palm Springs area in this movie. It was made before Palm Springs and the region around it were jammed full of millions of people.

Thanks for clearing up the audio on this film. I taped this from TCM one evening and I can hardly understand the dialogue in it. I have to turn the volume up all the way on my tv set just to understand what they are saying! This is much better! Thank You!!!

This was hard to find for download. I am glad youtube has it. Mclean is one of my most favorite authors. When I was a kid in the mid 80's I found a stash of his books in my dad's old trunk. Well I was hooked. I have made it a point to try and watch all the movie adaptations that have ever been made on his books. The quest is on. Where Eagles Dare is so far the best movie adaptation of his books in my opinion. There is just something about Clint Eastwood with two machine guns in each hand butchering all the Nazi's that is imprinted on my memory forever. And this was a time when you didn't have to have a six pack to be macho.

      @waverly2468 10 років тому +2

Where Eagles Dare certainly holds up very well--in the very beginning you see the old German tri-motor plane taking off, the music starts, and the visuals of the mountains simply take your breath away. You know it's going to be good. Today's Micheal Bay titles would simply be a lot of CGI.

Great comment. I`m envious of you, that you could converse with Asner. I remember watching this film for the first time, in my early teens, years ago, and that very scene you mentioned remains with me to this day.

Read all Alister MacLean's novels plus non-fiction when I was a teenager including this one. For those unfamiliar with AM - he was the Tom Clancy of the 60s and 70s and like TC many of his novels were made into movies.
    Thanks for uploading.

Filmed in LA, Dodger Stadium, and locations around Palm Springs. The Station 3 set was most likely built for the movie.

Great film except for this Lee Barratt guy (mister know it all )
I love those classic cars and the ambiance off it all
Don't hope they got something like this Satan Bug in stock over there.
I was based for 3 years(1991) in El Paso, Fort Bliss and they freighted me sometimes how naïve, may I say ignorant this soldiers where (no offense )
I was a First lieutenant MD

Yes Valiant, once Richard Basehart makes that speech about the virus and if you believe it, the movie is nerve-racking. It's in my top 20 favorite.

Just 2 months ago at a signing show, I walked up to Ed Asner's table and said, "You were in the most suspenseful and scary scene in movie history." He opened his mouth and threw up his hands. I set a photo of him and cast standing by the deserted desert gas station. I continued, "The gas station scene in 'The Satan Bug'. He signed the photo and we had a nice talk about it.

I saw this movie one time when I was 7 years old and I remember telling my friends at school about it the next day, while they were all playing James Bond and Man from U.N.C.L.E. The only think I remember is when the people got infected.

@robert101455 a pen name for Alistair MacLean. He also wrote The Dark Crusader under that name for some reason.

It says right in the credits, "Based on the novel by IAN STUART." Was this a pen name, or it is an error to credit this to Alistair McLean?

Having finished both this and Alistair MacLean's novel, I, oddly enough, prefer the film, despite the (pointless) relocation to America for the story. The book began well but petered out at the end, IMO. The film maintains the suspense and excitement all the way through, and has a better climax.

Yes. This is a great movie. Another good "bug" movie is The Andromeda Strain ( but, the book is better).

The problem with biological weapons that kill too quickly is it doesn't leave enough time to spread from host to host. Much better to have a longer incubation period than a few seconds. These bugs act more like nerve gas than microbes. But the movie is still a lot of fun.

This is one of my favorite movies, even though there's a lot to it I didn't understand.
ie Why wasn't such a big made about Reagan's muder early on?
OK, no biggie, but what other movies besides this and Andromeda Strain are there, that are alike, same era? (with all the old mopars and such).

Excellent movie. Although the idea a virus can kill in seconds is nonsense. It would require hours or even days of human cell replication.
