    Solid advice! I started Djing weddings in 2001, and I'm STILL working on my announcements, vernacular, and voice projection. Love this bro, nuggets were GOLD lol. Always providing legit content.

    Thanks Nick!! I’m a Dj and my weakness always have been the microphone! I rocked the mic last night at a wedding gig!! Your $40 dollars script made me sound like a mike buffer! Felt so confident 😅

    Great tips!!
    One thing I learned at mobilebeat is to never pick up the mic unless you KNOW what you’re going to say. That way you’re not tripping over your words.

    Great advice!! :) I always say "Don't walk but DANCE your way back to your seats" and it always goes over well, especially when you have to cut short a dance set because the food is being served. lol

    Thanks Nick. ( my real name is the same). I recently started working with a DJ/mc event guyand although I use to work setting up lights and sound and built custom scenery for all the standard events years back I never Mced. So I recently was Mc at a sweet 16 and did ok but I was thrown in to it essentially. I wasn’t able to hear myself on a mic without music in the background and eyes on me. So I went to the bosses shop and did a dry run with him. (He happens to be a big fan of yours btw ) I’m not shy but needed that solo practice and he definitely gave me a thumbs up in a sense that I was picking up on that enthusiasm and energy. I have my first wedding in less than 2 weeks and I’m not too nervous really but I’m glad I found this video before I even met with him bc just having some idea and guidance from you really gave him some confidence in me. So thank you first and foremost. One thing I’d like to say is it would be super helpful for any future videos is to maybe pepper in more real time examples if possible. Just simply posting a well put together tutorial is extremely hard so please know I get that. I’m currently looking at a few of your other ones and it’s super helpful. Keep up the amazing content and maybe I’ll see ya out there in the venues one day. Your new friend Mc slick ( Nick) ❤🎉🙏🏻🤣

    Just when I thought I was this 15 year wedding MC veteran, you just informed me I fucking say ladies and gentlemen too often. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, and now I can change it up. We really like your videos, and have been sending them to some of our new MC's for refferance. Thank you for the content.

    Nick - Great point about writing a script. Been an MC for years and spent several years writing speeches for Navy admirals (I'm retired military). Some of them are not natural public speakers and get very nervous. You've seen news clips of the admiral or general, mic in hand, up close to the troops, never missing a eat. A common technique when not reading from behind a podium is to become very familiar with or even memorize the speech then write bullet/highlight notes (memory prompters) on small, pocket-sized index cards that fit in the palm of your hand. If you can avoid unnatural "dead air" when glancing at your cards, it's very natural and unnoticed by most in the audience.

    I always confirm names and pronunciations of the Bridal Party when they are being lined up for intros. Even if Maitre’D lines them up I still go out there to confirm the order is correct or spelling of names is right. Robert could be “Ro-bear” or Smith could be “Smyth”, etc. great job in the video.

  • @frederickhart1470
    @frederickhart1470 2 роки тому +1

    Excellent advice, Nick! Another idea for improving MC skills is to recognize that you have weaknesses and make errors! You won't notice it live so MAKE A RECORDING of yourself (audio or video) and then study it afterward. Listen for voice quality, repeated phrases, DICTION AND ELOCUTION (introduce vs. "innerduce", gentlemen vs. "jennlmin", etc.). If video, observe your posture, hand gestures, and position. I learned this Monday-morning quarterback technique in college (30 years ago) and it's still useful for discovering places for improvement. THEN take a professional MC workshop to fully master the skills!

Maybe it's my clients but I've had brides carried out of receptions, getting sloppy with drinks near equipment and requesting stuff like 2 Live Crew 'Pop that P***y' with grandparents and kids in the room. I know it's their night but man, can they make it tough once the bar is open.
