  • I decided to make a getaway for a few days and headed to the remoteness of the Cambrian Mountains and the Elan Valley to explore and spend a couple of night's wild camping. This video documents my first night in the Cambrian Mountains where I climbed to the summit of Drygarn Fawr and from there headed to a Bronze Age Cairn where I spent the night.
    On my second day I explored the Elan Valley - this video can be found in part 2 which will be out on Monday, 17th June, @15:00hrs.
    Thanks for stopping by,
    Ryan.

    Toby is so cute in your company and snuggled up in his doss bag! I took one of my labs out for a short camp on The Quantocks at the weekend, she soon snuggled up in her jungle blanket and was snoring most of the night! They are truly our best friends!

    It's my favorite space the Cambrians - I love the bog. Ha ha! Some would consider that a bit mad but it's an untamed surface and in places where the peat hags are we're looking at thousands of years. Our ancestors knew it - yeah some fine cairns there. They make for a unique camp for sure. Good going. Mark

      @wildaboutwales  26 днів тому

      Thanks Michael, I'm glad you enjoyed watching. It was a slog but worth it for the location. There's not much information on the cairns on this summit, just that they're Bronze Age. I was wondering if the one I'd stayed in was rebuilt into a shelter the same time the Beehive cairns were rebuilt. I have heard of these cairns being referred to as Cairn cemetery, so maybe they could be burial sites like others I've visited - it's a shame there's not much more information on them. ATB, Ryan

    Firstly.. another great watch and others mention the lengths you to look after Toby.. mans best friend is really what he is. I had not realised lengthwise how far down the Cambrian stretches on the map. When you posted a few days ago I was eager to see where you went. As I mentioned on my video whilst I am stuck at home I have been exploring places and the Cambrian is way up there.. one area in particular - will message re that. The cairns look amazing but unsure if I would want to camp out in one..lol.I would ask how you find your info for these locations because you certainly do get off the beaten track.. I look forward to the 2nd part. I have wild camped up at the Teifi pools and wonder if you was heading that way? atb Al

      @wildaboutwales  Місяць тому

      Hi Alan, thanks once again for the complimens. I've only been getting stuck into the Cambrians the past few years, I'm enjoying exploring up there. I'll be honest, I find most places by chance, like this cairn for example - I tend to make up walking routes that are off the beaten track and just see where I end up. I've been back up since this video and visited Plynlimon, it's beautiful up there. I've visited the Teifi pools, but haven't camped there, it looks tempting though. I think I'll be spending a lot more time in the Cambrians from now on, I love how vast and peaceful it is up there.

    • @thevalleywalker
      @thevalleywalker Місяць тому

      @@wildaboutwales I did Plynlimon a year or so ago - had wanted to do it for ages. Very often on my trips to Snowdonia I will go via Llyn Cylwedog and stop off at the Wynford Vaughan Thomas Memorial view looking towards tha open expanse and think yes, need to get there sometime. By chance a week or so ago I saw a view on something - and didn't knownwhere it was but needed to find out. Took me hours of googling and scrolling google earth and eventually found it to be the valley with the Afon Hengwm running through it. From there I have found a view videos and views that make it so inviting. Llyn Llygad Rheidol is somewhere you might like to camp if you havent already sourced it out? atb Al
