** About Central Grocery **
We’ve got muff-alotta love for this New Orleans sammie first created here at this tiny neighborhood Italian grocery store. Central Grocery first opened its doors in the heart of the French Quarter in 1906 and not much has changed since. Its first owner was Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian sandwich superhero who came up with the legendary muffuletta.
The sandwich became an easier way to serve farmers who would stop by for a traditional Sicilian lunch where everything was eaten separately. Delicious, but not so great for portability #oldworldproblems. So Salvatore sliced open a whole loaf of his Sicilian sesame bread and stuffed everything inside.
If only all problems could be as easily solved with a loaf of Italian bread.

When I lived in Louisiana, one of my friends took me to Central Grocery. Before we went in, she said there’s a test to see if you’re really Italian, but she wouldn’t tell me what it was. We walked in, and I exclaimed “oh my god! It smells so good in here!” Then she said- “that’s the test!” If you’re ever in New Orleans, don’t miss this place!
My husband & I drive down from Ohio every year to visit family. We always stop and buy a whole sandwich to take in the car for our trip back home. It takes us two days to get home. We eat one half the first day, then stick the other half in the refrigerator when we stop at a hotel for the night. The sandwich keeps very well in the car. One year, we came to New Orleans on the train. Everyone was jealous when we brought our muffuletta sandwich to the observation deck to have for our lunch!
So thankful Central Grocery is shipping on Goldbelly! Sandwich yesterday was delish!
I've been lucky enough to travel all over the USA. One of my favorite vacation memories was with my wife before we had kids. We landed and went straight to Central Grocery to get a Muffaletta and a few beers. We went back to the courtyard at Place d'Armes where we were staying and just relaxed and ate our dinner.
The muffaletta is the best sandwich I've ever had by far. No poboy, blt, or panini even comes close.
Everyone should try it, if possible.
I had my first Muffaletta two weeks ago. Sandwiches will never be the same for me. It is by mountain tops the worlds perfect food!
If you can't make it to New Orleans try one at Jimmy's Food Store in Dallas.

I had my very first muffuletta 2 days ago. I don't care much for olives but this sandwich was the mort delicious sandwich I have ever tasted. Been craving another one already. I plan to go back and buy some to take with us as we continue our travels a fulltime RVer's. Heading East and won't get one of these in Florida.

I think this is were my parents and I went in the 90’s when we made a trip to New Orleans. I had been dying to try the sandwich cause I was an olive nut, I loved all kinds. I fell in love with this and the other food in town. My heart was officially Cajun/French! We stopped in the little town of LaRose on the way down there cause that is our last name and our family came from France. It was the best road trip ever! Disney land had nothing on New Orleans! We went when it was not Mardi Gras so no drunken mess of tourist.
That sounds like an incredible trip! New Orleans has such a unique charm, and the food is just out of this world. So glad you got to experience it and make those wonderful memories.

Moes, on the west bank, in West wego is also, the second best their Muffalatas are also bigger. And are Toasted to perfection, my favorite, when I'm on the West bank, in Westwego, Louisiana. You need to try it out, if you central groceries Muffalatas, you will love Moes Muffalatas, I go every 1 month.
Last had this delicious sandwich travelling across the south. it lasted til i got to Texas!

Why is it $109 for two sandwiches? that's $70 shipping.
It's all the special packaging they put the sandwhich in to keep ut as fresh as possible plus the rush order shipping from UPS. I wish it were cheaper too though.
