- Playing drums in the pocket, especially funk grooves and beats, feels so good! My upcoming video discusses how to get better at playing music in time and signaling changes to the group. If you want to learn how to play drums in the pocket, this video illustrates keeping solid time and navigating the song with strategic fills. Other musicians will beg you to be in their band!! Less is more!

Great job I've been playing a while and I'm just discovering new things myself with art you never finish it's a lifetime achievement
Yep, it's a never ending journey! Thanks so much 🙏 🥁 🤘
I remember a quote vinne gave when suggested a drummer just play a basic groove but get so comfortable and in touch with it that its all they ever want to play.
Well said! 🥁🤘
My opinion: you are right! Thanx!
My pleasure! Thank you 🙏 🥁 🤘
Tip: find a track like this one, and play 20 measures without a single fill. It will help you.
Exactly! 🙏🥁🤘
Ooh I love the triplets on the hi-hat at 0:16! Definitely gonna try that myself that was tasty
I love throwing triplets in! Thank you 🙏🥁🤘
Thanks heaps for the vids! I wish I heard you before I spent years playing out of time. I’m into faster music so never actually gave myself a chance to slow down and hear all the mistakes. My drum coach told me to only play along to slower music and to stay away from fills until I get in the pocket (also told me to record myself.) Since then, I’ve been able to hone in on that pulse a lot more.
1. Record yourself
2. Play slower!
Nice! Yeah, recording yourself can be eye opening. Good tips! It's never too late if we never stop leaning. Thanks very much! 🙏 🥁 🤘
Great advice and vids dude, thanks 🙏
I’m 2 years into my journey of drumming and you are so right that the flashy stuff can wait until you have pocket and groove with good timing.
Yeah, if you can develop that fundamental sense of time early you're way ahead of the game. Some of the practice work isn't super exciting, but when it clicks in hard it feels so good. When you get fed up with the metronome, play along to some Led Zeppelin. Bonham had it on lock 😉 Glad you like the content. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! 🙏🥁🤘
I just watched 2 of your You-Tube videos, and I agree 100% with your thinking, and exactly what I continually try to perfect, or at least to the best that I can. Just one question though, on this video I hear tom tom notes being played, yet your sticks are hitiing them, so who is doing them? Thanks. ( great job btw).
Thank you so much!! 🙏 This is a cover of "Taste" by TrackTribe. They make music for creators and are available in UA-cam Studio. The toms are part of the original track that I'm playing along with.
So glad you appreciate the content and I appreciate your kind words! 🤘🥁
@@skiddleberry You are very welcome.
I thought about that too. I prefer “drum-less tracks” so I really can hear what the actual drummer is doing. But many channels do it this way. Each to their own I guess ✌🏻😅
🥁 WATCH NEXT for limitless possibilities with electronic drums!! 🥁 🤘

He sounds like he's part of the track. That should be the goal. None of the other instruments are playing wild stuff, so why should drums?
Exactly! Thank you so much 🙏 🥁 🤘
