And honestly, that one's still pretty high. If you look at some clips of TNCM airport, you'll see some that are so low, they're barely clearing that fence. And if you REALLY want close, check out this clip from St Barthelemy: ua-cam.com/video/oRk7t1qYsLY/v-deo.html
I've had such a short transfer too. I had a TOS-OSL-CPH flight with SAS, with a 45 minutes connection at OSL. Due to bad weather in TOS, we left 75 minutes late and touched down at OSL 5 minutes before the scheduled departure of my connecting flight. We arrived at the international terminal, despite being a domestic flight, so we could park right next to the aircraft flying to CPH. It litteraly took a minute (yes I ran), from the time I unfastened my seatbelt on the first aircraft to the time I fastened it on the other. It turned out that 12 pax from the TOS flight was connecting onwards onto that CPH flight, that only had 56 pax, so they decided to hold it, despite the following CPH flight being an hour later. Everyone and their bags made it, we pushed back 14 minutes late and arrived in CPH a few minutes early.
We used to reverse out of the gates in the 727 and md-80. Keep your feet off the brakes. When you're done backing up, you come out of reverse and don't touch the brakes.
Grand Case does look a very cool airport. I hadn't realised planes could reverse, or at least I hadn't seen it before. I have always seen planes being pushed back. I noticed Grand Case in your recent video with the attempted landing in St Barth. I had been to St Barth and flew into St Marteen airport, and until your videos was not aware of Grand Case airport. It's a sensational part of the world, especially at this time of year after the Hurricane season and before the December and January crowds arrive, and I hope you got some time to relax on St Barth during your trip to the region.
For those hid did not serve in the Navy, you can always book a flight from Sint Maarten to Saba with a 1300 foot runway and a cliff on each end of the runway. About the closest a civilian can get to flying on and off a carrier.
Yup I when to St.Maarten by a Cruise Liner back in the July 2019 it was Awesome I also saw Princess Juliana International Airport I even take some Photos of a number of Planes Landing & Takeoff which by the way is Kool.
i love how even i knew you were talking about grand case just because i did so many small flights around st maarten as a kid on flight sim years ago lol
That's hommeeee.... it's paradise yo!! I grew up in Grand Case and would ride my bike to the airport all the time to check out the aircraft. The most impressive times was when military cargo aircraft would come in from Guadeloupe.
WELL THERE YOU ARE!! I tried to find you under INFLIGHT VIDEOS but couldn't find you. So I looked up "inflight videos" and saw your name! I resubscribed today.
I know I'm like a year late on this, but I went to SXM last month and I'm almost positive I stayed in the same hotel you were shooting from...since I took about 500 videos from my balcony at the Morgan Resort myself. Was on the 4th floor-- absolutely glorious spotting from there.
Great memories of the two bars, either side of the beach. One is perfect for beach lounging and the other one is great at night. I never got to chance to see the French-side airport.
I always enjoy that you find great places beyond the obvious Avgeek hubs! Now you're making all the Aussies extra envious that we can't leave the country at all
When I visited St Marten as part of a cruise. I was first of the ship and dragged my now wife to maho beach. We was the first there. Such an amazing experience.👌
Its awesome to see fellow avgeeks enjoy my favorite spots on the island i was born and raised on. Its really tough to not be an avgeek if you were born here :P

Hey Noel,, here a Dutchman. Did you know that the French and Dutch Governments used this border in St Maarten to trick 2 of the kidnappers of Freddy Heineken, the Beermaker? In that time there was no clear extradition treaty between the countries and the Kidnappers went to Paris to avoid extradition. The French Government was not happy about it. So they exiled the 2 to St Martin. But not via Juliana Airport, but by boat. When the 2 where on the island, they let them go. But before they arrived, they let the French people know who they where and giving them the feeling they did not want them there. So the people chased them over the border, where conveniently the Dutch autorities where waiting. There is more to the story, the Heineken family was also involved, but this is the short side of the story.
Noel another great vlog It’s not just Av geeks who think of that when it comes to St Maarten lol 😂 5he view is fantastic during takeoff Those seats do look uncomfortable
Have you been to Anguilla? You have to fly via SXM and I decided to go there instead of St Martin because I figured it would be too touristy and crowded
Great video. Thanks. Length of runway is the same as Toronto Island airport where Q400's of Porter Airlines don't need to back up for take off. I wonder what is different here? Does the Q400 have better take off performance? Different regulations? Different obstacles to clear? Different load factors? Something else? Just curious.
Enjoy your videos, you go off the beaten track. 7 Minutes for a transfer must be a world record. Quickest I had was 30 mins, flying London City into Schipol for a connection to Bonaire, bags made it too :)
Does reversing that tiny amount really make a difference though to amount of runway used to get airborne? And if it does, does that not beg the question of whether they are pushing the safety envelope if a few feet make that much difference?
Hey Noël ! Believe it or not but I know the guys at the checkin desk and the guy for boarding :D Again a wonderful video and for once, someone is highlighting this amazing airport that I loved in flew in and out of every time I went there. Could you do a (full flight video) of the flight from Saint-Martin to Guadeloupe and from Guadeloupe to Paris ? I really miss thoses videos
hey, noel I want you to visit the beautiful country of Trinidad & Tobago next time you go to the Caribbean. It even has its own airline called Caribbean Airlines. It operates two aircraft of atr 72's and Boeing 737's. Plus, the Caribbean has its own milk run from POS to Princess Juliana using the airline LIAT.
ATR72 seems like a better plane to fly on that the Q400. I flew from Faro to Fuchal on the Q400 and i found it noisy and the seating was tight at 6'1. What did do u think about the ATR-72 Noel?
I went a few years ago before the big hurricane. I was really looking forward to hanging out on maho beach and seeing the planes come and go. It was also the one of the last years the KLM 747 was going to be coming in.... Unfortunately maho beach wasnt much of a beach at all especially compared to the photos it was almost completely eroded. My car was also robbed when visiting paradise peak. So no more st marten for me. Ill stick to my love Aruba. That said princess Juliana was pretty cool.
I was on a plane at Toronto airport, to reverse to get out of the gate. I think i was,on a 737. Spooky and sort of a,funny feeling. Good pilot. 🛫🛬. I believe it was on Nordair. 🇨🇦
This plane reminded me of the little toy cars, bus, planes etc you got as a kid that you pulled back and let go
Yes, I always think about VPN providers when flying over tropical islands as well 🤣
The flight just really reminds me of how my info is going to get stolen on McDonalds WiFi!!
A tip: watch movies at Flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies lately.
Dashlane aint a VPN tho

This is an amazing video. Did not know the island had a second airport. In Cayman, I saw the same thing, couple of chickens running around. lol
This airport handles only domestic flights (french islands), probably the reason why most of people only knows Juliana
I lived in St Maarten for almost a year in 2011 and it’s honestly such a beautiful island. Friendly people, stunning beaches.
St Maarten i love this place i'm deffo going back after lockdown
Loving this latest series Noel, such unique experiences!!
It seems like every Caribbean island that I've been to there are always at least a few chickens running around randomly.
Noel: "That's flipping awesome."
Me: Having a heart attack just thinking about how close the plane is to the beach.
And honestly, that one's still pretty high. If you look at some clips of TNCM airport, you'll see some that are so low, they're barely clearing that fence.

Great video Noel! I’ve never heard of this airport. It’s funny how we all know about SXM, but not the small unique airports like this! ✈️
Yup I also visit Grand Case Airport in St.Martin The French Side which is Cool Plus ATR'S Lands & Takeoff there as well Awesome Video!!!!!

I did that trip so many times an had no idea the takeoff was unique. Thanks for the info !
Cheers Noel, enjoyed learning a new place, all the best
Glad you enjoyed it
Neat little airport!
But I've landed and flew (as a passenger) from an even shorter runway: an aircraft carrier! 😁
Where you in the Navy?
@@sebby324 yes, '94-'99, served on the USS Theodore Roosevelt

Fly Paris to Atlanta (full flight) with the map in the corner!!! love those videos

Great video Noel really enjoyed it
I always enjoy your videos, Noel, especialy some of your down to earth comments, in this case the cloud "throwing the V-sign!" ))))))))))))

You were in St Martin... so near to my beautiful island of Puerto Rico! The islands are so awesome
Really good,I wish Noel could fly around South Island of New Zealand,so many beautiful towns,it’s like his Alaska milk run 👍
Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife also has a turnaround. It was a factor in the worst aviation crash in history when two Jumbo Jets collided in 1977.
Your videos are great,Noel
