I took a flight on Dominican's most infamous airline Red Air, which turned into a crazy flight with a battered old airplane and a booking system just to use the loo!

A reservation system for the loo? Stop giving Ryanair bad ideas!
😅
LOL
5EUR for an online reservation
10EUR if you reserve on a plane
Toilet paper, soap, and water extra, if Ryanair did it
Our klm same as Ryan 737
8:51 “It’s a bit kidnappy down there” is a delightfully British understatement for a bad situation. Bravo!
You know what Rachel's "I'm reserving judgment" is probably the best way we should go through life! There is your new merchandise slogan for a T-shirt thank you Rachel!
Noel - 'Rachel didn't want to send me to Venezuela, it's a bit kidnappy there'
Also Noel a few years back- 'Welcome to this challenge where i let Rachel pick random cheap flights to send me somewhere, on ancient planes mostly on airlines banned in europe thanks to their safety records, making flight paths over active war zones, into dangerous airports'
Either she loves you more now, or that life insurance policy doesn't pay out for Kidnap 🤣
I LOVE it when Rachael flies with you. As a woman with an "invisible" disability (I have multiple sclerosis) that makes it very difficult for me to walk longer distances, it's astounding that so many "service" professionals assume that if one doesn't LOOK disabled, they must not be. I appreciate so much that Rachael is willing to talk about her experience, and you being willing to speak to it in a vlog. The more we can do to make this lack of empathy and helpfulness known the faster we can get it changed. Thanks Noel and Rachael. This is one of my favorite vlogs ever!!!
Thank you for your kind words!
Hello fellow Multiple Sclerosis sufferer…. It absolutely sucks my hands and feet go numb very easily. I agree with what you say.
Every time we get a new manager they give me heck when I have to go home early because the pain gets unbearable.
He rolls out all the luxury for her
No one is EVER judging Rache. No need for you to say you wouldn't use a wheelchair if you didn't need to. We LOVE Rache!! You guys are an awesome couple!! Another awesome video and we love seeing Rache!!!!
“It’s a bit kidnappy down there” 😂
My mum also suffers from Fibromyalgia - it's a tough condition and I appreciate Rach speaking openly about it! I hope enough awareness is spread such that more research can be done, it astounds me how little we know about the condition :(
The human body is such a big mystery still, both the physical body and the mind. There's so much more research funding that's needed.
Rach cracks me up 😂 Noel is absolutely loving the aviation history, and Rach simply couldn't give a toss 😂😂😂 Brilliant lol.
Me as a passenger services operator at newcastle international in the uk helping prms, (passengers with reduced mobility) I’m very sad to hear that you feel like a burden and a outcast at airport for needing wheelchair assistance, I do everything I can to make someone’s experience as friendly as possible! If you ever visit Newcastle and I’m on shift I’d love to say hi!
Hi from fellow a Geordie
Your wife is a wonderful addition to your videos. I appreciate her honesty and she is a breath of fresh air for the channel. My best to her. She should be in every video!
Yes, Rachel indeed a superstar. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am with Rach on this one! As for booking to use the bogs...imagine if you had a dose of Montezuma's revenge! Not funny.
Never ever drag Rach on a greyhound bus.. after this flight and limping through 2 airports she deserves a trip on Emirates ❤
Did you see that video where he stayed home in the UK with the kids and sent her on a trip by herself? I think it was to Seattle or Las Vegas for a few days, and she did everything on her own and filmed it. She's a trooper.
& a keeper ,!
Great video! Thanks to you and Rach doing a video a few years back on flight assistance I was able to pass this on to my mum who had a fall whilst on a coach tour in Austria and was badly injured. As she was in hospital the coach had to leave for home without her and arranged a flight home. I let mum know about flight assistance and they were able to wheel her through the airport, onto the plane with my stepdad, and out the other side. It was a godsend so thanks to you both for sharing openly your experiences as it helps us at the most unexpected times.
Kudos for showing the rest of the world what travelers with challenges have to go thru in order to get from point A) to point B)
As a fellow fibro sufferer, props to you Rach for going through that experience. It really is so disheartening having a pretty much invisible disability - thank you for talking so openly about it! 🧡💜
Gotta appreciate Rachel’s bluntness 😜 I hope you guys enjoyed the Dominican!!
Noel has cured my fear of flyving. With all those dodgy airlines he is using and still not dead, he has convinced me, that flying is more than safe. My fear of flying Lufthansa, SAS, FinAir and KLM is now gone. Thx. Noel...
Rachel is such a trooper. ❤️ Those stairs would have done me in! I am also a fibro (and autoimmune) warrior and flying can be so stressful and draining. I fly alone and have never once had wheelchair assistance go well. I really appreciate when she is in your videos as it’s great to see a version with someone like me.
I've always appreciated Rachel sharing her experiences as a disabled traveller. It's a perspective the industry needs.
Rach... I know how that feels... I have RA and fibro seems to go hand in hand with that. I walk with a stick when I travel but have resorted to wheelchair when flying mid flare-up. Still we warriors still get to travel and dont let it stop agood time ...can I get an Amen? Great vlog Noel. Next time you do the Aussie thing you must come to Tasmania the flight from Hobart to Port Davy is fantastic and its the only way in and out (apart from boat) No roads and very few folks ...one of the last great wilderness areas.
I learned something about that. She is *not* disabled, the infrastructure is disabling *her*
Love seeing Rachel in the videos. Fibro can make travelling difficult but she doesn’t let it hold her back. Well done Rachel! 😊
It really seems to be the true litmus test of customer service. How can you serve people with limited mobility? Will have wheel chairs, early boarding for those folks?
Yes, I don't always love when UA-camrs bring on their spouses, but Rachel is different, I'm always happy to see her, and she has an amazing sense of humor (I also find her a bit sexy, but anyway..). I have a close friend with Fibro, and it's quite debilitating. I have suffered from nerve damage (sciatica) and I think it's quite similar- very painful and your legs can just go straight out from beneath you, even if you are otherwise a strong person (and Rach clearly is). Hugs and good health wishes, Rachel!
How does Rach feel about flying? I know I'd personally not want the passenger next to me telling me the plane is battered and over 30 years old just before take off 😂😂😅
and still in the flight itself haha
One thing was the 767-200 and another thing is flying on Red Air 😅
Hey man… love the channel. Maybe find a companion with a little more enthusiasm like yourself. You deserve it.
Noel, your compassion and love for your wife is so touching.
Ppl will ask anything on UA-cam. You don’t have to oblige them. Especially you don’t need to give exact diagnosis. You, being a very nice couple, still explained. ♥️ Love your videos
I was lucky enough to get on a Delta Md88 a few months before they were retired. One of the. best flights I've ever had. The FAs were amazing, and we specifically told them that we were flying on the MD 88 for nostalgia. They gave me a tour of a plane once we landed, and it was amazing. They even gave me an entire bag full of Biscoff. (like the ones catering delivers them with). The aircraft itself was impeccably maintained considering it was 30+ years old at the time.
Rachel is the voice of reason in this operation. Thanks for your service!
Thank you so much, I still suffer with my knee which was smashed in an accident 10 years ago. I am always nervous going to new places and I think Racheal having her own channel will help massively. I’m even happy to help and come along with her on some trips giving a different prospective. I love how Noel cares for Rachel, you can see they in love and care deeply about one another.
Thank you Rachel for explaining what your condition is. I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and haven’t had to travel yet with it. I’m scared of the road it’s going to take me down.
I love the contrast. Noel is the AvGeek flyer that would be happy flying in a DC-3. Rachel gives us the realist perspective from the remainder of the flying population.
Basically the verdict on the MD-82 is:
Noel: 🤩 Rachel: 😑
you probably mean "Noel", no?
@@nafcom thanks for catching that!! Autocorrect strikes again!
I feel for you Rachel. Not very well understood conditions by the general public. I have M.E. so I find myself in a similar position and haven’t tried travelling since I got ill. Thanks for being open and honest about your condition to raise a bit of awareness 🙂
I appreciate your very nice wife talking about her illness. Some people don't understand that just because you don't look like you have an illness, it doesn't mean you don't have an illness. She is a champ flying with you! I always enjoy your videos and it does help me should I choose to fly somewhere sometime on how the process goes for you.
I have Fibromyalgia too and I know exactly how you feel Rachel. I can't walk through airports either. Sending you love and light! 🤗❤
Md80, my fav plane! I really enjoyed them in their last years with SAS...usually I sat in the last row with a view to enjoy the engine sound.
Rachel is such a trooper. I love the videos where you both travel.
26 years for that plane with American....A really good chance I've flown on it. Flew American a LOT from the mid 80's until the mid 2000's.
It was sad to hear about your wifes disability. Im so happy to se you her and the kids so happy together its an truly amazing family and traveling first class with the kids as well. I love your videos Noel so much truly amazing rewiews. My best wishes for your wife and family.❤️
I feel her pain as I have the exact same issues and more! Not only can I simply not walk for long periods without pain I also live with chronic leg and back pain from both failed spinal surgeries and untreatable spinal issues in my thoracic spine.
You and your wife fly onboard a 35 year old MD-82 actually and that is quite insane. In Iran, i think 4 airlines still flown the MD-80s. In Indonesia, Air Fast Indonesia also has 4 MD-80s in it's fleet. Glad you and your wife survived with Red Air
I’m binge watching Noel Philips videos and I’m absolutely loving it!
The loo reservation could be because of weigh distribution, so not many people accumulate on the back of the plane.
Toilet reservations... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot lol
I keep watching/ binge. Things are an adventure on every video. Getting an appointment for the loo I'd never seen before. thanks for the video.
Completely understand Rach!! I too have fibro as well as a connective tissue disorder, so I hope you're doing ok! Sending soothing, pain calming hugs!
Thank you!
Poor Rach. I know how it is to have health issues & sometimes barely being able to walk. I hope she made it back to Houston & was able to get assistance. That was a very interesting flight & I'm happy I wasn't on it!
l am also a Fibro warrior, thank you for sharing as many dont understand the severity of the illness that can mess with so many things in the body. Having a hidden illness is soul destroying at times. I am interested in seeing how you manage with your physical issues as I cant do walking around airports now and the assistance can be problematic when trying to make a connecting flight! Thanks and take care xx
I always sweat just a little bit more when I fly on an MD-80...I know they fixed the issues, but that jackscrew issue with that Alaskan Airlines plane always comes to mind.
I flew on the AA "Super 80" in the 1990's between YYZ and SFO back and forth a few times and I can recall there wasn't much "Super" about them. Basic commuter trains / busses in the air. Saying that, I used to get a seat in the back so that the roaring of the engines would lull me to sleep, similarly with the last of AA's 727 fleet. Great review and unfortunate about the unavailability of wheelchair assistance at MIA - been there, done that before while escorting a mobility challenged individual with noone at the gate. Keep up the great videos!
Please review Caribbean Airlines.
At least they dont make reservations for their loo. Plus they got new planes now
Love Rachel, Should get her in more videos Noel!
Chronic pain conditions are no joke, I feel for you Rachel. You do feel like you're burdening people at times but some people who don't bother to understand make you feel this way.
I'm surprised that this airport didn't have the truly basic accommodations you needed.
I'm glad you both got to experience that amazing resort you stayed at. Looks just lovely and relaxing. Rock on you two. ❤
Thank you1
I feel for Rachel. My mom has Fibro as well and travelling is always really hard on her. She hasn't flown in years because it's just too painful.
Anyway...great video as always Noel. And I'm super late to the party, but welcome to Texas!
The worse part is she has to deal with the U.S. system now for healthcare. Not simple and easy like being in the UK.
@@TheLifetraveler1 Pay for proper insurance and it's better than the UK. Also, not much they can do for Fibromyalgia considering it's basically a fake condition/diagnosis given when the doctor doesn't know what's actually wrong with you.
@@AdmrlSpeedy Thats not true. Its an immune system disorder and it has recognizable symptoms. My Aunty has it in her facial nerves and the pain is so bad she's now on morphine. She has good days and bad days and it is set off and made worse by stress. She also has asthma.
@@juanitarichards1074 it is true though.
@@AdmrlSpeedy It would be helpful if you got some MODERN information. In the past doctors knew so little about it - that they couldn’t diagnose it. Similar to other diseases down the ages!
Bless you Rache. Nice one Noel and Rache.
I love learning on this channel where some of the retired aircraft go. I remember when American used both the MD-80 and Fokker 100. And it is great how Rach responds to questions. Honest questions merit honest answers.
I've watched two videos now with your wife, and they've been great! Cheers from Alberta, Canada. We're off to Heathrow in five days on a flight from Toronto. Can't wait!
Rachel is awesome, take her with you everywhere! How are the babies? And wheelchairs should ALWAYS be available. Rachel should not be made rot feel like a burden!
I really do love you and Rach! As a fellow Fibro Warrior I completely understand what she, and of course you as her hubby goes through on a daily basis with this never ending, life controlling condition! The good thing is to keep going, obviously within your limits, and Rach does so well with the travelling, as I know that some days just having something as simple as a shower takes it out of you completely. I'm currently living on the couch after a nasty fall and snapping my Tibia in 2 places, and Fibula below the knee and having a rod fixation, and naturally Fibromyalgia doesn't play ball when something else is going on. This has however given me plenty of time to binge watch all of your brilliant videos! Luckily like Rach I also have a brilliant caring hubby that understands everything that this condition can bring us. I look forward to watching many more of your amazing adventures and Thank you for bringing Fibromyalgia into conversation as you will know it isn't a well known, understood or researched condition ❤❤
Rachel is a hoot! "You'll have to drag me off this plane"! 🤣 I am like Noel and would give my right arm to fly on a MD-80, or better yet a DC-9 again! The only MD designed products still flying commercially within the US are the Hawaiian B-717 and the Delta B-717. There are a few MD-80's, but they are charter. Internationally I think it's just this airline from Dominican Republic and Laser Airlines from Caracas.
Bless her heart. She's a trooper
Having to reserve the lavatory is absolutely ridiculous. Love your videos
LOL I love the expression on your wife's face when you told her the plane was a bit of aviation history her look was completely No F**ks given and one that said I just wanna get home in one piece !😜
Rach is amazing! I about died at "I'm reserving judgment", magical.
I remember those MD80’s going through final inspections at Tulsa maintenance base before the transfer
I went to Spartan 2001-2003 and got a tour of the American maintenance facility in Tulsa and saw a few MD80s, F100, and an A300 i think AA did work on the CF6 engines there as well
There are parts of the overhead bin hardware a friend made on contract at his machine shop in Santa Ana.
The interior operation was out at a plant in Riverside. He made two of the aluminum catches for each side for 2 years.
32 at a time on a special rig on his CNC mill.
My first time commenting into your video, I have watched most of your videos but never comment, I just wanted to thank you for the amount of energy you have been putting in those videos. It's just unexplainable.:D
Thank you!
I managed to get the Noel Philips middle seat right at the back of an AA md80 between a pair of lumberjacks from PDX to SFO, the shoulder room was rather constricted. The only consolation was "more room through coach" at the time.
Poor Rache, it must be an horrible illness.great video as always.was so glad we didn't see the engineers walking off with an engine part in their hands, scratching their heads and patting the plane as good to go😂
Reminds me of a Untied flight last year from JFK. We were delayed for about an 2 hours and two guys finally exited the empty plane (wearing coveralls) and I heard one of them say,,,,I hope it doesn't fall off.....Whatever it was didn't, but I worried what the hell they were talking about.
Loved seeing you both together. I hope Rachel feels better soon.
I have now completely watched every episode you have made on here 3 weeks in total and i have just worked out when you film the planes firing up on the runway it seems to be normal then kerpow the plane the pilot pushes the hyper space button I realised you sped up the filming 🥴 keep these coming I thoroughly enjoyed them
Wow. The last time I flew on an MD 80 was from NC to IL in 2014. Seems like yesterday. The 737 and Airbus 3xx has really taken over most fleets. Back in 2006 I skydived out of a modified MD 80 / DC 9 via the rear stairs!
I wear a leg brace and deal with the same issues as Rachel. I feel you girl on those massive airports, wheelchairs are a great wellness saver.
Another great video Noel! Also I just wanted to say Rachel you are inspirational! Love watching you with Noel too!
Great video Noel & Rach. Love Rach honesty. 😂
Thanks, Rach, for opening up about your health challenges. Also, I, too, have 1980s charm😆😆 No working flush? Someone must’ve wasted a non-foreign object
I love Rachel's comments! She is very entertaining!
The overhead passenger controls bring back some nostalgia for me! (I'm same age as Noel)
The interior of that plane looks so familiar. I flew quite a lot with American Airlines in the 90s, watching this made me feel nostalgic :)
Thank you for explaining your wifes medical issue. I have wondered and suspected that it. I have a friend who's daughter has the same problem and please let you lovely better half know my heart goes out to her. I also have neck and back issues from a plane crash during the Vietnam way and I know that some days you wake up and feel great and try to do a little more than you should and then the pain you go through for over doing it. It is nice to see you both on the flights together though. I hope you are loving Texas, but Florida is better (LOL). If you are ever in the Tampa area and need a guide around Florida just let me know you are always welcome in our home here
Great video. Did you realise at around 16.14 on the clock you have Voldermort on your flight??🤣🤣
Your wife and I suffer with exactly the same illness. I also got ME/CFS on top of that after an infection 11 years ago. So I know how bad it can be. You are not alone, my wife takes good care of me tough so I can't complain. Lucky to have such a wonderful wife.
edit: I also have a limit of around 50-100 yards and stairs are very difficult, involving a lot of pain.
Sending all my love and well wishes to you 🌸
@@xindigochildx 🙏❤️
When I flew for swift air we would do flying for Laser from Venezuela from SDQ to MIA since they were banned into the US. Passengers would “connect” in SDQ to our aircraft. Shady MD80 aircraft. Then they started red air to sort of bring it in house, but you can see the result of that.
Rachel is amazing! Extremely smart too stopping you from going to Venezuela. That just sounds like serious trouble especially alone and not being a native Spanish speaker.
Living in Milwaukee, Wi, I used to take Midwest Express (Midwest Airlines) on a regular basis. 2x2 leather seating on MD80’s all the time. I’ve sat in all parts of the plane from row 3 to the last row. It was strange when I rode on a non-MD80 and was listening to the engines, thinking well - this sound different.
Its always nice to see Rache's smiling face to cheer up my day.
The MD-80!!! I used to fly once a week for 5 years in the late 90’s through the early 2000’s out of Atlanta on the MD-80 most of the time. It was not the best aircraft, but it’s a great memory flying around the US. I did not realize they were still in use, but glad you were able to fly one again.
We need more Rach videos (obviously with her conditions taken into consideration) but you two are a hilarious duo.
That was a really smooth landing from the videos POV... Wow 😍
Noel, between flying these dangerous airlines, eating the food, dealing with germy passengers, most importantly, hostile countries, it's amazing you're still kicking. I would've been dead long ago.
My sister has fibromyalgia. I total understand your symptoms and sympathise with you. I’ve seen how she is and it’s same with her, she can be in bed for 3-4 days by just simple walking. Stay safe x
I love when rach is with you she so funny.. she always reserves her comments for after the flights lol lol you guys make a good team and good videos!
MD-80 absolute tank of an aircraft. Love the little mirrors on the glareshield so you can see the standby compass over the F/O's shoulder
I do enjoy the backstories of the planes used by the "lower tier" airlines. I recall the shock here in Seattle when a story on gunrunning in sierra Leone in 2002 turned up with the former Seattle Supersonics plane still sporting the team logo making a delivery fo guns.
You lucky duo! Getting on an MD80 like that! What a beautiful example, inside & out. Never flown on one of those. However, have flown the 8 & 10 in 1980 & 95. The greatest airliners, in my humble opinion
Oh, and the 9 in 1997
“I’ll drag you” now this is love. You two are such a sweet couple 😊
Count your blessings no emergencies happened on this horrible airline. As for the MD 80 I miss flying them. Very quiet airplane ( except for very rear ) and was the working horse for AA for decades. Cheers
Wow, awesome, spooky & epic. Nice to see 1st class Rach. Nice 1 Noel.
Thank you so much for giving some detail on the mobility issues. It was absolutely not needed for me, but I'm sure some people were wondering when something and someone is doing something "different". Fibromyalgia is certainly no joke, so please take it as serious as you need too! No need to suffer when it's not needed. It's actually also interesting to see how plane travel can be quite a bit different when you have some mobility issues. Assistance and accessibility should be a given in 2023, but it sadly not like that everywhere.
NOEL THANK YOU FOR THE FIBRO AWARENESS!!!!! my mum suffers with this horrid condition and there's not enough awareness about it, thank you for this video ❤
Love it when you two do trips together 😊
Loved the engine sound on take off
European Air Charter, A Bulgarian airline, still operates MD-82 aircraft. They frequently take off from Varna Airport, over my home. You can instantly know that it's an MD-82 by the noise!
The last one I flew on, was in 2005 when I flew from Paris to Milan on Alitalia.
Love The Mad Dog, great plane...rides great first 4 rows!!! Did you spend some time in DR...did you enjoy it? Did you go to Fuente Cigars?! Rum makers? Recommendations to see? Cheers Rachel for being strong, pressing on!
Hi Noel, glad to see you review a Dominican airline. Next time you should review Arajet, the new low cost airline based in DR.
