There's a link to the video explaining why in the description box above (just under the video). She's still healing from a bike accident that incurred stitches to her face. 😊
Thanks for your wishes! My fitness is mostly back. I'm wearing the mask while I'm outside to protect the scar from discoloring because of the sun. Progress is being made :)
@@bikewithcarolin I know you're healed up now but, for anyone else, zinc oxide cream can be helpful for this. Probably a lot more comfortable too and the thick version made for diaper rash resists sweat very well. It is an excellent sunblock for this reason, and what I use. It is quite white, though and will stain dark clothing.
Just discovered your channel while cycle-touring in Portugal...love it! We are headed to Japan next September and hope to do some cycling. Thanks for the great recommendation.
A wonderful tour, well recorded and obviously excellently organized. Thanks for taking me with you. Unfortunately I can no longer do this tour due to health reasons, otherwise it would be on my bucket list.
Cool adventure! Thanks for sharing! New subscriber. My wife prefers that I travel with her to Japan to ride my bike, but the #1 item on my bucket list is to ride the 4 Rivers Ride in So. Korea (Seoul to Busan), which - health permitting - will be in fall 2025. But, maybe while I'm out there... 🙂 I'll either take my Brompton or rent a bike in Seoul -- I'm waaay too paranoid about flying with my Specialissima. Thank you for posting this very enjoyable video, Carolin!
Thank you for a wonderful film. I wish I could have been there, and wish I could do something similar one day. Wonderful scenery, food, hot spa! *no punctures ? ** good website/options, if I ever get from France to Japan I would book a short trip with these people.
Yep, really enjoyed that. I've just returned home from Japan, not cycling, it's a special place. I must have been 15 times since my first visit in 2012 which was a guided cycling holiday.
@ Really is. So beautiful. And really friendly people. And police stations have air and water. Quite amazing. In September 2013, I spent 4 days riding from Hualian to Taidong, stopping only when it got dark to find a b and b to stay in. Totally great.
what an awesome video, Japan is so beautiful and diverse place i have seen from videos like this anyway. never been but always love the culture and have some climbing friends from places like Japan & Korea. From what people say its a very clean country, and inline weather with Vancouver Island in Canada, just a big ocean between :) how did you find the diet Carolin? the temples are always very impressive, & general building architecture. Thanks for making this wonderful scenic cycling video, i hope you are healing after the horrible accident earlier in the year. i know how you feel after 10 surgeries in the last 6 years Jaw surgery is not nice thing to go through and takes time to heal. we do miss that beautiful smile :)
The diet was well rounded and diverse. Its very common to have a variety of preserved veggies and soups. usually, traditional accommodations generally have set menus. I actually appreciate that the food was already selected for me (zero decision fatigue) I'm doing much better! fitness is great, scar is minimizing and fading well. Hope you get a chance to go out to Japan!
Hi I came across your channel and immediately hooked. I love how you share your story, you have great charisma. I am cyclist myself and my friend and I (group of 8) are planning to fly from Indonesia which is where we are from to SF. We plan to cycle from SF to LA via highway 1 Since you are from SF. Have you done this route before ? Thank you Carolin
Carolin thanks for sharing this awesome biking itinerary. I love cycling, love japan and love the fact you used a local business for your travels. So was this your itinerary or oka tours pre designed one? Either ways i would love to collaborate.
Support local whenever possible :). Oka Tours has it all planned out. I showed up with my bike assemebled and everything else was taken care of. They provide road bikes as well so they make it easy!
@@bikewithcarolin Coming from western US, would you suggest bringing one of your own bikes if you are comfortably setup? What are the transport and storage options before/after if I'd want to continue on with non-bike travel? Looking at 2025 schedule there is a Jun 2025 or Oct 2025 trip with similar temps - are there differences to the seasons?
Why are you wearing a mask?

Understand. I thought the injury was almost healed a few months ago. Hope she is doing better and healing up!!

Oka Tours provides a fantastic cycling experience in Japan and highly recommend them. Akira and Taku are the best!
Hey everyone, pass on this video and let’s get these viewership numbers up, it’s great content….🚴♀️👍
Thank you for such a great video - gives a good idea of what this tour would be like. Going to check this out for 2025!
I have yet to hear a bad thing about visiting Japan. Glad you had a lovely time! Thanks for sharing
Loved your video…this is now in my bucket list of bike tours.
Wow. These landscapes are wonderfull

Great scenery and delicious looking food!! I’m adding this trip to my list
One of my dreams to cycle in Japan ❤ I’m working on my fitness to do this. Cheers from Oz 🇦🇺
looks like a great trip for cycling enthusiasts. thanks for sharing your experience.
I love the Sendai area and the shrine is magnificent. There is an amazing waterfall nearby with a Shinto and Buddhist shrine.
Wow! Incredible! I'm sure that cost a pretty penny! Thank you for the wonderful video and learning experience!

that's an awesome tour. I wonder if the would allow 50lb e-bikes for people that are less fit such as me.
Beautiful adventure 👍🏾 safe travels
What an awesome experience. Your channel is amazing. You’ll catch a big bump soon. Keep it up.
that means a lot, ty 🥹
Great video! Just got back from a three-week trip to Japan and recognize so much in your video. How much was your trip?
@bikewithcarolin curious what other bike trips you would recommend. new zealand? vietnam? etc

Ya 12min video isn't doing justice. I'm sure she is rivaling herself what to present.
Good Vlog. thank you.😊
Fantastic. Now I highly recommend doing something similar in Taiwan, a good place that could really use support at this moment
Taiwan would be amazing!

What's the bike bag you used? Looks pretty compact.
Yup! Postcarry 135L. Vid in description
What's the lowest gear you had on your bike for this trip? (e.g. a compact crank (34/50) with a 28 in the back?)
More riding and scenery and less eating food please. Aside from that, great video.
LOL. Japan = superlative food.
To be faaaair, Goody says bacon wrapped water chestnuts are really good.
Where do you put your camera? It's not allowed to take video while riding a bike
Only one question. Why keep the mask on when riding?
All good aside from the natto!
🤣
My 1st time eat natto it taste like coffee🫣✌🏼
🙈🙊🙉
What’s the mask for?
Riding with a mask outdoors, nope
