I followed the instructions to get the supposedly free pack, now I have a zillion effects sitting around in FCP, and using any of these results in a fat red cross over the footage. Yes, I did apply the license key that I got via email, and the installer even said it removed all the plugins that are not licensed. This is horrible, my only wish now is to get completely rid of this stuff from my Mac. If BorisFX is aiming for making new users hate their products, they totally succeded with me!
This goes back to the open letter to Apple. If Apple had spent time enhancing Motion and made their tracking much better then all this work process could have been done in within FCPX using built in trackers and masking, compositing effects. However Apple have not done anything significant instead they handed Davinci Resolve an opportunity to develop NLE tech to match and better After Effects. Using Boris Continuum in FCPX is great, they are an excellent plug-in. Boris is now another subscription service unfortunately. They cater mainly for After Effects and think about FCPX several months after releasing the latest Adobe version. I want FCPX to be the best, we should not need to switch between NLEs, that is why Davinci Resolve is winning, cause it’s got everything Apple should have and everything After Effects has without a subscription all in one NLE.
To each their own. I'd rather Apple add a few more basic features (like better easing for keyframes, better roundtripping with Logic etc) than see it becoming another Davinci Resolve. I like Resolve but the reason I use FCP for editing is the magnetic timeline first and foremost.
@@GameSack There is no tool that does it all. Resolve certainly comes closest but it still misses a lot too. When I used to edit in Resolve I often had to roundtrip with Logic for audio editing. For example Resolve / Fairlight has no "strip silence" feature (interestingly of the big 4 NLEs only Avid has that). Not to mention scoring music. Fusion in Resolve is nice for compositing, but not so much for motion graphics. After Effects is far superior for that and also Motions' real-time performance blew Fusion out of the water when I did the exact same composition in both tools. I don't think there will ever be the perfect tool that does it all. I'd rather have flawless project exchange options and then choose the best tool for the job myself.
@@kugelfunk I can't even imagine mixing sound for video in Logic Pro. It does not round trip well with FCP. I tried to move a mix from FCP to Logic Pro and it was all sorts of messed up when it got there. Many of the tracks were gone and none of my sound effects were in sync. It's not good. FCP is honestly quite good at mixing, much more so than people give it credit for. I generally don't "strip silence" because, well, it's silent.
Great video. Is it also possible to rotoscope and isolate subjects for the whole clip? This plugin seems to just be able to apply effects to background and foreground, but does it do keying? Would be good to know if I can use it for compositing and if it substitutes rotoscope from after effects
How long before Open Ai leaves Mocha n the dust? Mocha has not improved much in years and imo its kinda lame for the seat time it takes to get 100% realistic masks
Excellent video I understood everything you were talking about and yes that plugin has so many variables!
Just got the plugin... gonna enjoy it! Thx for yer tut.
Nice job Steve, that's pretty amazing for a free plugin.
Amazing plugin, and amazing that it's free!
Excellent explanation. Thank you!

@@kugelfunk Adding much needed professional tools doesn't make that magnetic timeline go away.
@@kugelfunk I don't want to see ANY round-tripping. I want to do everything in FCP.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Masking a mask has gotta be a first.
Looks like Boris now charges $60 for this download...
