While I agree the stands seem too high for my taste, they're not my models! 😁 Beyond that, it's not like base height matters at all in 8th/9th edition 40K, as Cover isn't counted the same way it used to be, so base height really doesn't matter, gaming-wise, so do whatever you think looks best for your purposes! I'm currently struggling with how to mount some of my Orlock Wrecker models in a take-off flying position (as they seem to have been sculpted on the decent). I do prefer the clear plastic flight stands over a solid black stem, but I'm going to have to get very creative with how to make it work to get the model where I want him over the base, and when in the proccess to attach it... 🤔

Beautiful conversions! The only sad part about this is that you didn't only do GW's job for them (updating the kit) but you had to give them even more money to do it (buying 2 separate kits).
Great conversion! One suggestion I have for doing the metal wire flight stand is to coil it exactly the same way, but to drill a hole through the base and push it up through, then green stuff over that. It'll give a 100% bulletproof attachment, and give you more flexibility for basing style I know what you mean about army updates, although as a Sisters of Battle player, sometimes Christmas does come!

Tbh it looks like an assault intercessor in the recruit/indomitus box, not the standalone box, which is greatly explain why in this video, it be more of a “monopose” and require a lot more of cut, saw, sand than normal.
Drill a hole in the center of the base and run the wire up the middle. This allows you to flip the model over and fill the base with epoxy or glue, and maybe press in a metal washer to add weight to the base. Also, given the other players I've talked to, the reason to use boxed poses and stands is that they tend to result in models being closer to the table and easier to place behind cover.
Love the re-posing! I know you said no to an exhaust 'stand', but adding a bit of dust kicked up by the landing guy (maybe a doughnut of fluff with a thin matte varnish spray to lock it down) might take up some of the space and sell the 'landing' motion. Also, if you weigh down the bases, you can bend the wires to move the apparent center of gravity of the mini closer to the rim of the base. This can give the minis a more kinetic 'off-balance' look rather than appearing to hover. Thanks for the great video!
I agree, the proportions of Primaris is so much better. I have a box of Sanguinary Guard and I wish I was capable of doing as you have done without fear of ruining two units in the process.
You are enjoying yourself, by doing your own poses and models. You're an Artist. I don't collect models or paint. I came into 40K when I was checking out the art in White Dwarf at WHSmiths. I never new about the Lore for years, even after playing Dawn of war games. I then saw the Picture of the Emperor fighting Horus, then began reading and learning online. Awesome stuff. I'm happy to see you make new models.
"This one was made by a team of writers." Also, I defnitely agree with you on the smoke plumes, but I also don't like having them supported by something that isn't terrain where possible. To fix this on my Screamers of Tzeentch, I'm going to make some half-destroyed obelisks and arches and just just have the screamers posed like they're flying over them. I'm going to try to have them attached to the structures at the tip of the wings or the base of the tail so that it looks less candid.
Everythings a tradeoff. If you have your modes flying over items on their base all the time, they bring those items to every battlefield which has its own issues woth suspension of disbelief
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop True, but since completely removing that would mean just having a black base I figure I'll go all in with their attached terrain. Kind of like each is a mini diorama. (I do much prefer your wires to the GW clear stems tho)

Large Acrylic Rod 3/16ths and a heat gun to bend into cool shapes for more dynamic pose and/or different mounting. I use magnets to attach for storage/transport. Attach with green stuff and super glue.

Man, thx! Just got my first Blood Angels Combat Patrol. This was a great Inspiration when I want to make my army bigger. They look great! Realy like the one with the sword.
You might want to try using paperclips instead of black wire. It is more subtle to the eye from a distance (and quite francly even up close) and although thin, it is hard enough to hold the miniature where you want it to be (unless mistreated of course). Love the new Sanguinary Guard look, much more menacing and worthy of the reputation they carry with them to the battlefield. Great job!
@@coalitionofrob436 if you get one of the hollow skulls from the citadel set and cut it up it looks good as if the flyer is crushing it as he lands. and there are all sorts of bits, from body to buildings to rubble, all with the added part of no weak flying stand.
I love converting stuff. I actually converted that new Blade master model for Custodes. Since I collect the army already. Most of the pieces to make him are very available and I decided to make the 2 handed sword bigger out of 2 shield guard swords.
Just as a major suggestion with the use of wire that way, drill through the base and push the wire up through the base with the coil underneath it. You'll get a bit more stability out of it and it allows more options for the basing.

Also, thanks for not leaning too hard onto the GW criticism; that's one of the thing that turns me off about the scratch-built community in general. And I totally agree with you concerning the Primaris versions of classic units; that's clearly the direction both the products & the lore are going. There's still a place for the old style/scale SM kits, but they almost certainly won't be making any new ones that way...

Nice looking Sanguinary guard models. Like what you did with the flying stem it looks like it will hold the figures in the air a lot better than the plastic stems where the model drops off if you touch it by accident.
For the base, try drilling a hole through the base, and poking the wire through before putting the model on it. That allows for more freedom for base decoration.

This is great. You think like I do and as an illustrator, you completely understand why the new proportions are better. Now I just have to decide whether I'm doing the same thing with my new box of Sanguinary Guard. I can't tell if I wanna go to the expense. But I hate that cartoony kit! It looks older than it actually is.
Primaris are a nice idea for releasing 'true scale' marines. It's their lore that makes no sense and is the main reason why people don't like them. The second is their armor looking new and hi-tech in contrast to the utilitarian used future of the classic marines.
_It's their lore that makes no sense and is the main reason why people don't like them._ I'd say, the reason is nostalgia, and the lore make no sense is excuse made up to justify their dislike of Primaris, there's so much more lore that make no sense what so ever, and yet they accept it because it's how things used to be.
@@jeans4484 Biggest glaring issue: they got readily accepted into every chapter without question. Including the super secretive and intolerant ones like Dark Angels. How in sweet Emperor's Anus?
It's worth pointing out here there are two different type of heroic styles you are talking about here. The heroic proportions generally seen in art, especially comic books is the one that is about 8 1/2 heads high. 28mm heroic scale, is kind of then opposite. Heads, hands and hand held objects are made bigger proportionately to the body to make them more easily recognizable because they are small miniatures generally viewed from ~half of your body height away (when on the tabletop.)
The one detail that fails to sell me on the flying poses is the weird flat bit on the feet where they normally touch the ground. Do you ever end up doing anything with that? Is it less obvious after painting?
Just something to consider that I’ve been looking into. In Age of Sigmar, the Stormcast Eternals have a ton of units that feel like they are made for kit-bashing , or just flat out using them as a replacement (looking at you prosecutors). Also could use something like Knight-Azyros, Knight-Venator, Celestant Prime, or even Sigvald for the Sanguinor or Dante. You should look into them, I dont currently have any Sanguinary Guard, but will be using Stormcasts to kit-bash them when I do.
They look great man! Only feedback I could give is maybe cutting the toes that were touching the floor off and rotating them so that they are straight like the raised foot - just bc they're flying :)
That conversion is dope! If I ever decide to do blood angels, I'll try. The only think that bothers me are the feet, they still look like they are on the ground

I like the scale to. Sold my Crimson fists army to start over with Primaris. Great work!
Primaris are a nice idea for releasing 'true scale' marines. It's their lore that makes no sense and is the main reason why people don't like them. The second is their armor looking new and hi-tech in contrast to the utilitarian used future of the classic marines.
Thats only really the "phobos" guys though. The basic primaris armor just looks basically the same as any other marine armor mark to me
_It's their lore that makes no sense and is the main reason why people don't like them._
I'd say, the reason is nostalgia, and the lore make no sense is excuse made up to justify their dislike of Primaris, there's so much more lore that make no sense what so ever, and yet they accept it because it's how things used to be.
@@jeans4484 Biggest glaring issue: they got readily accepted into every chapter without question. Including the super secretive and intolerant ones like Dark Angels. How in sweet Emperor's Anus?
Can't wait to see these painted up.
this is the exact stuff i want on this channel
I purchased clear plastic rod from the local Hobbytown. I then cut them down and make my own rods with no bubbles in them.
Glue qaurters to the bottom of the base with the rods, counters the top heavy Really well.
i love old figures but it's true, nowadays they are out of scale. nice job as always
I've enjoyed watching your progression to a recognized and respected builder among your peers. Always looking forward to what you'll introduce next.
Good to see you dude , seems like a long time , great work on those ! Careful or GW will steal your sculpts.
Awesome post , thank you.
These are fantastic! Very inspiring work!
Wow, you absolutely nailed these! Fantastic work - I can't wait to see them again in a future video.
Just did something similar with my White Scars Vanguard and Deathwatch Veterans. Looks really awesome for Killteam and surely also for bigger games.
I totally understand the conflicting wind direction issue, but Mephiston is beautiful, my favourite BA mini.
They look great man! Only feedback I could give is maybe cutting the toes that were touching the floor off and rotating them so that they are straight like the raised foot - just bc they're flying :)
The thing about the wind... I can relate. Again a great video.
Lovely Video! Was waiting impatiently for it :D
Just getting into the hobby and stuff like this is really motivating. Brilliant stuff.
Amazing posing! Great video as always!
This was CRAZY COOL. I don't personally enjoy the primaris marines as much but DAMN those guys look great
That conversion is dope! If I ever decide to do blood angels, I'll try. The only think that bothers me are the feet, they still look like they are on the ground
