I’m actually really glad you left this comment because it shows that my original title and thumbnail choices were poor and needed to be changed.
The Diaclone era toys are my bread and butter. They're my favorite because of their build quality, incredible aesthetic, and play value. G1 Optimus is just the coolest toy ever made.

@@fun2building for which figures? The hollow turning yellow breaking repaints that they put out? Oh or maybe one of the 20 different optimus or megatrons they make. But I will give them credit whoever is doing the legacy line is doing better cause it has some cool figures but people are paying top dollar there shouldn’t be a need for another company to have to fix all of hasbro short comings such as dna designs.
@@kalobhunt9001 I mean the yellowing is a pretty well defined thing now, we know why it happened and it's drastically decreased since, so while it sucks that there are figures stuck with it it's not like they just ignored it being a problem
This is probably in my top 5 favorite Optimus figures. I love the weird shit going on in G2, this one adds a lot of fun play features to the original toy. The black trailer is awesome. Such a fun figure. Love G2.
You know, there is something appealing about die cast with chipped paint. Looks “lived-in”, like someone cared for it in the classic sense.
Its a lost art.
I had a G1 Optimus back in the 80s. I don't know how but I didn't know the chest window opened up until I saw it on an episode of QI a few years ago. That was over 2 decades and it was one of my favourite toys. No idea how I missed that.
Man the figure has really hold up
Not really... nostaliga wise, sure but it has no articulation, the joints are weak, and the paint chips easily. Probably great when it first came out, but definitely doesn't "hold up"
@@kinjapleb4228 no because the joints aren’t loose and the paint doesn’t chip easily. It also definitely has way better build and materials than anything in the past decade. I also think it’s fair to expect limited articulation from a toy from upwards of 50 years ago, who’s main gimmick was to transform

The knockoff black nemesis prime looks great next to a G1. And the quality’s not too bad.

I got this guy at a comic store a while ago and he’s awesome. Mine has most of the parts intact and all he’s missing is the hose and one of the missile launchers, his backpack thingy even still works

Back when this figure was released I couldn't understand why they printed OPTIMUS on his trailer. Transformers were supposed to be in disguise, not advertising their names on their vehicle modes. It's a bit of a failure in that regard.
The fold out supports on the trailer are supposed to be pointed all the way forwards in trailer mode (when not attatched to the cab) like you showed. They're only intended to point outwards in base mode, to support the sides of the trailer.
4;57 It's a welder, not a fuel pump. It's for the robotic arm of the trailer to repair the Diaclone mech/Cybertronian warrior... which would require welding.
Omg the arms will fold into the truck mode so much easier if you flip down the windows first!

The head can be modded to rotate in some releases, although they just glued it in place instead of a screw in this version.
I remain unconvinced the backpack/soundbox actually attaches to optimus, as mine only seems capable of precariously balancing there, but renders the figure super top heavy for the delicate worn out leg joints.
I have the g1 version… I just realized that the new Star Wars micro fleet guys will fit in all the little cockpits and in roller!

I was lucky. I got a G1 Optimus on clearance at Kay-Bee for $5 some time during the third season of the show. I was stunned at my luck because I could rarely afford Transformers bigger than Bumblebee because my allowance sucked. I still have it in the box even though I've played with it and lost many of the labels. I also cut out the tech specs but still have them.
The items on top of the cab where the head is are the air horns, not headlights.

I had the G1 Optimus as a kid, and it came with the same rifle. My dad cut the handgrip off for me so that it could be pegged into the fist in line with the arm, rather than at that wonky angle.

The hips are actually a weird locking ratchet. Metal on plastic. You need to pull the legs apart when transforming to prevent the plastic wearing out. That’s why his legs keep sliding back.
My second Optimus figure was a G1 Optimus. The first one that my parents bought me was the Power Masters Optimus. I think that was the name. It was based off the Master Force version of him.

The legs flipping back was something in all the versions of this transformation style for Optimus. I had an original G1 and it did the same after a while. The joint there was pretty cheaply made, unfortunately.
As a kid I wanted octimus prime to have the matrix of leadership included with the toy but they never did engineering for it
I have this old original Optimus prime. In fact I have over 200 Optimus Prime's in my collection.
I did buy this release after I moved out for college. I didn't take my TF collection with me, and it was an easy way to get a hold of an Optimus Prime. I did modify it a bit by putting pen springs into the combat deck missile launcher, and cut off the restriction tab that limited the velocity of the launcher for Roller.
I wasn't crazy on the name emblazoned on the side of the trailer, kinda defeats the concept of Robot's In Disguise. The soundbox disguised as a reefer was a rather clever design choice. Mixing of the classic and new faction logos really didn't help branding in my opinion.
The quality isn't as good as the original G1 production run, but still was satisfactory

In '84 I was 12 years old and had one
I got the reissue of G1 prime with SS38 prime in a pack, fav prime design is the RiD/car robots fire convoy
I own the ko mp10 so I didn't get a trailer with it and when I was looking for a one on eBay I found the clear version for like 20 bucks and had no problem painting it but the spray paint I bought was supposed to be in between silver and metalic gun metal but it dryed an almost metallic black so I snagged a can of metallic red and bought some vinyl sticker letters and just did the g2 trailer and 3d printed the electronic box for the front!
I had the g2 prime anyway growing up so the paint color problem turned out to be a happy accident!
The 2 things that made this 😎 was
1 it was 2 toys in one
2 those toes bending
It was so cool because most toys did not have any moving besides the hip arm knee

I still have my Gen2 Prime. The missile launcher in the trailer always bothered me. It's like they purposely forgot to put the springs in so it would be "safer" for the US market.

So ahh, all these points are pretty much all known, I was hoping for something new I didn't know, so sad.
For a figure this old it has great articulation,most of the robot forms from this time period are nothing more than a brick with arms,think about how horrible Motormaster was basically the only thing you could do was move the arms up and down(brick with arms)back in those days they put everything into the vehicle forms to get them perfectly accurate and the robot forms suffered greatly from it.
