Fun fact: When Aragorn kicked the helmet and screamed after believing that Merry and Pippin were killed, the scream of pain was real because the actor actually broke a toe on the helmet.
Another fun fact: He broke 2 foot toes and ironically it was the second film and the two towers

1:00: 'I wonder how long they've been travelling?' Tolkein kept track of the time in the books and there is a time line included in them. The battle with the orcs and the death of Boromir happens on the 26th February. Frodo, Sam and Gollum reach the Black Gate on the 5th March, eight days later. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli meet Gandalf on 1st March. Merry and Pippin meet Treebeard on 29th February (yes, Tolkein even worked out that it was a leap year!). Hope this helps.😊
So Gandalf is like and angelic being sent to middle earth with four other wizards and they all had the task in aiding and guiding men against Sauron. Gandalf was the only one to stay true to his task, and it wasn't done so he was sent back.

During the running scenes with Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn, their actors had some injuries, Gimli had a dislocated knee, legolas had a broken rib, and Aragorn had broken toes

BTW, the flag of Rohan coming off the flagpole drifting away as Aragorn & Co. approach the gates was completely unplanned. The amazing Edoras set was built in a remote location with high winds.

There are so many lovely details. Frodo is growing as an individual, in wisdom and strength. So he is now able to access just a tiny part of the Ring's power. Hence his vision at the start.
BTW, Gandalf and the Balrog are both essentially angels. But the Balrog fell into darkness ages ago, when Morgoth rebelled against the Creator and eventually persuaded Sauron and others to join him.
All three parts were filmed simultaneosly, so is more like a very long movie divided in three parts like the novels.
Yaaaaa, first one to say it 9:04 that yell from aragorns actor is real pain cause he broke his toe kicking that helmet. Commitment!

Funny story about those running scenes: When they filmed those scenes, All three actors had injuries that made running very painful. Aragorn's actor had a broken toe, Legolas' actor had a broken rib, and Gimli's actor had some sort of knee injury (although I forget what it was specifically). It took 2 days to film these scenes.

Thd odd thing i find about the helms deep decision and why our main crew is against it... their current location is almost indefensible.. aside from the advantage of high ground and the ability to use their horses (which admittedly is huge especially for this specific nation of men) but the 10,000 strong sauroman created and sent to destroy them would have walked all over edoras (their city, not sure on the spelling) with their hands tied behind their backs. It was constructed of wood with no stone defenses... just doesn’t make sense why they would advise against it. They would have to travel in the open, sure, but that exposure is temporary and staying in their city is basically suicide. Neither option is good but it seems to me that at least with helms deep they can put up a decent fight and not be orc food immediately. Just my thoughts. I always think this but forget to mention it.
You are absolutely right. Gandalf and Aragorn were wrong to counsel meeting Saruman's forces in open combat.
Movie scrip is different from the books, maybe they did it for more dramatic tension?
well for one thing they had no idea how big Saruman's army actually was, Aragorn only caught sight of it on the way to Helm's Deer, but there really were no good choices to be made here only to find a way to survive

The Ent's are truly amazing. What a combination of animatronics, puppeteering and CG. Peter Jackson's vision was so immense. Along with the writing of his wife Fran Walsh. We have to step back and appreciate absolute commitment to greatness that has been put forth. What a master of the cinematic arts.

12:30 Gandalf, Sauron, and Saruman are all angelic beings from the heavens called Maiar. The Five Wizards were sent to Middle-Earth to help the people in their fight against Sauron, with the White Wizard being the head of the group. So since Saruman wasn’t doing his job, he was fired without his knowledge, and Gandalf got to come back as the White Wizard.

LOTR lore, Gandalph and all the wizards are basically angels sent to earth in human form to guide the people of middle earth. So Gandalph isn't his name, and if it felt like he was gone for thousands of years thats not the name he was probably used to hearing anymore.
The balrogs are the same beings too if I’m not mistaken, just corrupted ones that joined morgoth(sauron master)

10:46 I remember reading an article years ago about human remains found in some kind of bog in Florida. I can't remember exact details, but I think they were reported to be like a couple hundred years old. Yet their bodies and skin were preserved very well for human remains of their age.
It had something to do with the water composition that made it similar to the effectiveness of embalming fluid.

It's always the same with resurrection of Gandalf, nobody knows how XD. Gandalf cannot die, its something like a spirit, like Saruman, Radagast, the 2 blue wizards, Sauron, the Balrogs... When Gandalf die, its sent back to middle earth to finish his mission/task with more power, thats why he becomes Gandalf the white.

Gandalf, Sauron, Saruman, even the Balrog, are all Maia....like archangels. (Although some turn evil.) Elves are immortal, but can die in battle or of grief. The Undying Lands are like Limbo, a Catholic concept, as J.R.R.Tolkien was devote Catholic.

At 14:29 actually the flag wasn't suppose to rip off the director said in an interview but they decided to keep it in the movie.
the flag was designed to rip off at that moment, but they didn't expect it to fly all the way down so perfectly.

8:34 I heard that the actor's scream in this scene is not an act. He apparently broke his leg (or at least really hurt it) while they were filming and ended up just using his genuine cry of pain to the scene's benefit.
Not his leg. Just his toe. Still hurts like a mo-fo, but not as serious an injury as a broken leg.

I always enjoyed the LOTR movies, they’re just long as all hell.

The creatures the orcs are riding are called wargs. The book describes them more like wolves, but #UnpopularOpinion, I don't hate the hyena-looking design. Makes them look more creepy and feral, which adds to the scary factor. Little extra info, though. They're not just dumb animals. They are a thinking, sentient race with their own language and culture. They are, however, evil as heck and have an alliance with orcs and goblins, so when their goals align, they allow their allies to ride them into battle.
Fun fact Magy. Game of Thrones writer GRRM thought that Gandalf should have remained dead. He has said so in many interviews. It would have given the story a doom and peril that would have made it even better. That's where he got the idea to kill off several main characters in the GOT series. Plus remember GRRM did not know that Gandalf was alive till 5 years after he read the first books. So to him, he was really in despair. How are the Fellowship going to overcome this evil without Gandalf? Now you know the genesis of your GOT pain, despair, and heartache.

The creatures that the Nazgúl are riding in this one are not actually dragons. They're called Fell Beasts. You saw a dragon in The Hobbit. Much bigger. Much smarter. Much scarier. Much more verbal. And fun fact! They literally eat rings of power for breakfast! See, the 9 rings Corrupted the human kings and turned them into ring wraiths. The three given to the elves were hidden from Sauron before he could corrupt them, so they are free from his influence as long as he doesn't get the 1 ring back. But what happened to the 7 dwarf rings? Why, I'll tell you. Sauron recovered three of them. But he was unable to get the other four. Why? Because they were, and I quote, "consumed by dragons."
Fell Beasts are different. They're described in the book more like giant birds without feathers, which, frankly, I think would have been a much creepier creature design than the draconian one they went with. They're specifically bred in Mordor as mounts for Sauron's most loyal followers.
Two towers is my favorite film then Fellowship comes after.

At 14:14 you could not be more mistaken. Frodo needs Sam. Proverb 27:10. Gollum may appear to be able to go the good or bad way, but Sam is indispensable, a loyal servant and friend. Sam is considered by many to be the hero of this story.
