  • How to make the U.Ks best simple and effective Bass rig.
    This rig is so simple at was recommended by a very well know bass angler. Fish are spooked by complicated christmas tree type terminal tackle and this rig keeps things simple

    You could also consider the double running paternoster though it is not specifically a specialist bass rig by putting a smaller hook on the bottom snood its good for picking up flounder

    Only difference I make is I use around 8 clear beads just forms a simple boom I find it stops the hook length from twisting around the lead length of line

  • @sinraptor216
    @sinraptor216 2 роки тому +3

    Used this rig for a very long time.
    Prefer 2 (dark) beads between the swivels as it acts as a mini boom while readying to cast helping the bait and lead to move around one another rather than tangling.

    Is Barrel sinker good for this rig?

    • @SaltwaterAngler

      Hmm could do but I prefer a wider weight for Sussex shore marks because the slimmer weights fall between boulders and get snagged

  • @JW-wp1qt
    @JW-wp1qt 4 роки тому +3

    Do you make your lead link longer than the hooklength or visa versa, or does it not matter? As a newbie I’m thinking about tangling.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  4 роки тому +3

      Great question depends on the ground. Long lead line where there are big boulders , shorter where it’s shallow and snaggier

    Anybody else wondering how you attach a stone as a weight instead of a lead😮

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Місяць тому +1

      Good point ! If you cant find a stone the right size with a hole in it- Use a barrel knot failing that a BOB (butch of bastards) wrap round and round using loads of overhand knots.

    Many thanks for the clear video. Taking a couple of hours to make-up rigs for the summer, and this is one I'll be making a couple of for the tackle box. Just a question about the 'rotten bottom' aspect of this rig. Surely the breaking strain of the hook length is irrelevant? - if the lead snags the only important relationship is the relative breaking strain of the lead length and the leader-main line? You could have an 8lb hook length and 80lb lead line and the hook length won't feel any pressure pulling out a snagged lead. But 20lb hook length and 20lb main line and it's 50:50 which one will give.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Рік тому

      Thanks George- yes so I kind of need to show what happens in a video regards the thickness of lines- the main thing I’d add is the leader line should be fluorocarbon and if anything is going to give it needs to be the weight

    what size circle hook would you recommend for this rig ?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Рік тому +1

      Ideally I would use a big 6/0 crab hook- wide gaped. I’ve missed some big fish with circle hooks so came away from using them last few years. So I’m not really able to advise but generally , for bass they will take a huge hook in their massive mouths.

    • @SaltwaterAngler

  • @markypatt8340

    Should imagine this rig would be ideal in calmer conditions were the bass tend to take the bait slower...you would have direct contact with hook so feel the bite develop....think I would use braid for mainline...reckon you would get even more feel for the bite if you use it.....great vid by the way...

      I can’t overstate how close in bass will come , I’ve watched schoolies a foot from the shore and the biggest fish I’ve had he been within 5 -10 meters . So in short you don’t NEED to cast far but in Ireland I used to cast between the third and fourth breaker at inch strand but also saw fish swim behind me when I was wading ! Read the beach and cast accordingly over the first couple of breakers is a good start though.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 роки тому

      The 6oz lead was mentioned as the sort of max big weight you would usually need a lead clip for. It was to demonstrate that you DINT want a big weight for this set up. However you can vary the line strengths but it’s definitely designed for close in fishing not any sort of power cast .

      Live prawn, live mackerel, pealer, lug, mackerel head. All depends on the tide conditions and what they are feeding on at the time. There are dozens more hook baits too. Peer crab over rocks and mixed ground. Lug in the surf but live bait can be the most effective. Confusing isnt it! Where are you fishing?
