@@marilenamatrone9663 I'm going on my first rollercoaster next month with a group off friends I haven't been on a rollercoaster before I'm so scared any tips
And...4 years later! LOL! I believe the Big Dipper was the first roller coaster to have "Up-stop wheels". That was a revolutionary design back then. The roller coaster train has wheels running UNDERNEATH the track, as well as above. Without the up-stop wheels, the track can't go up and down TOO much, or the train will fly off the track. The up-stop wheels allow for bigger highs and lows and more speed.
I took my son and daughter to Geauga Lake August of 2017. Their dad worked at Geauga Lake during the off season to repair the Big Dipper! Geauga Lake was always part of my summers growing up as a kid. We rode the Big Dipper seven times before leaving the park. We did not know that less than a month later the park would be closed. Glad we left the park with the Big Dipper memory!!
In reality the ride is much faster but i know it was four yers ago it was a little slower but in 2016 the ride only last around 30 seconds it is fast as heck that ride now
My first ever rollercoaster. Always holds a special place in my heart ☺️ As a child I was terrified of rollercoasters. Wouldn’t go near one, let alone ride one. On my first trip to Pleasure Beach, I don’t remember how they managed it but my family somehow got me on this ride. (I honestly don’t remember how they convinced me to get on it. It either must have been a very convincing argument, or they bribed me). I was swearing bloody murder on the ramp up, telling my family I hated them and I was 100% convinced I was going to die. This was going against every self preservation instinct in my tiny body. Then the dreaded drop happened and...... I loved it. It was like a switch had been flipped. After the first drop I enjoyed the rest of the ride. I even loved the sensation of my stomach flipping over. When it ended I wanted to go on again. Now I love rollercoasters. I still get a little nervous around upside down rollercoasters, but other then that I will go on anything now matter how high. If you told my childhood self that I would willingly ride the Pepsi Max she would not believe me. I look back on my previous rollercoaster hating years with shame and embarrassment now. Why did I hate something so vehemently without even trying it? So take my advice people who are terrified of coasters. You gotta take that first leap! Start off on small ones like the Big Dipper if needs be. Because you might be a hidden adrenaline junkie like me.
It always stops on the climb when it's on two trains because it has to wait for the other one to get to the station so it doesn't crash into it. It has a detector somewhere near the top.
I went on this in 1977 when I was almost 16, it terrified me and I've never been on a rollercoaster ride since....until 2 days ago, I went on Galactica twice and Nemesis once at Alton Towers, so proud of myself lol
This is similar or the exact model roller coaster called the Jack Rabbit in Wildwood NJ. Long may she rest in peace. She was my first ride. I was 6. Im 41 now. Great memory.
STORY TIME! So the first time I rode this I went on with my dad (my dad forced me as I have an extreme phobia for even the smallest of roller coasters) so we got on and literally before I could think about anything the ride started... Then we reached the top and I shat myself (metaphorically) then each time we went down I had air time and smacked my head against the front of the cart... Several times...
Ouch. Just pure ouch. I had a similar experience on space mountain mission 2 at Disneyland Paris, my head got whacked around so much! Still a great ride though.
This was my first main rollercoster and the air time Jesus then I when on it again on Monday got no air time and loved it so much defiantly one of the best rides at the park
I5 is actually so much higher than it looks in this video. Also the drops are actually quite steep and you get bashed a lot on this ride but it’s very fun!
I remember this was awesome when I was a kid, a real white knuckle experience. Funny,I remember going round the globe thing at the top towards the first dip,. but not the double lift hill preceding it.
My family loves roller coasters except for my mum and my brother. Me, my stepdad, my younger brother, and my cousin all told him it was a simple on ground rollercoaster. We still go to Blackpool every year and say the same thing, I swear he hates us 😂
I've been on the big dipper over 10 times. the ride next to it ( the blue one I forgot the name ) I've been on over 13 times. the pepsi max ( or iron bru ) ive been on god knows how many times. IJUST LOVE BLACKPOOL!! I'VE BEEN THERE MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN I WAS A KID.
I went on it with my friends in July I loved it but the drops made me have this feeling in my stomach the feeling where u feel ur stomach go up. it also made me jump outta my seat thank god there was a bar holding me😂 I loved it!
I wonder what changed in coaster design from 50 years ago you now. These Woodies today seem to fly over the hills and not let up but the ones back then like this one seems to lose steam at the top of the airtime hills.
When I went on this ride last week 'I honestly thought I was gonna die because for a started the lap bar doesn't even touch me so my mom holds me and also when we're going up the first hill the ride kept slowing down and then jolting and speeding up again. then it feels like it comes of the track as your ass comes of your seat.
Where is this amusement park? Besides this coaster there seems to be a few more I would like there. BTW, that first left turn at the top of the long lift by the Big Dipper sign looks like a turn from a Wild Mouse ride giving the impression it's going over the edge.
I’m thinking of taking my 5 year old niece to the Pleasure Beach this year. She meets the height requirements, but I am worried a rickety rollercoaster like this one may be too much for her at such a young age. She has ridden the Blue Flyer, but this is a class above. What do people think?
Kevin Bolton My 8 year old niece loved grand national and this but then she got bored of the baby rides. She told me next year I want to go on Icon and the bigone, that was a few years back, not last year the year before.
on this ride last year I was at the front with my twin he was like oh we are gonna die lets move i was like nope then the ride started aaaaaaaa goes my twin.
What I love about the Pleasure Beach is everything is now so tightly packed in, due to them carefully keeping the "oldies" & mixing them in with the newer rides, so Big Dipper, Grand National run thro The Big One, etc.
Been there today in the very back seat and the first drop really hurt my back cause when it went down my butt wasn't in contact with the seat and when it reached the bottom it was just as I fell from something right on my butt and my lumbar spine almost cracked and my head hurt. I was about to cry. It's the end of the day and I can still feel it. Burn this thing down and build something like an icon instead of it.
same I wen yesterday and I was also sitting at the very back and my head is still really sore it's such a weird feeling I felt when I hit the bottom I'm actually scared aha
My legs got bashed and my head nearly got whacked off.
Would definitely recommend.

Its really good for a coaster that was built in the 1920's! Its so much better than it looks and higher.
Synne Dragonhand it got shorter due to a fire

me too omg they flung straight off lmao
take me to my grave Excuse me visually impaired person right here I’m registered blind though do have a bit of vision in my left eye.
Good job I didn't actually go on it then when I was being begged all day too. Anyway I nearly had my glasses fall off on the Nickelodeon streak 😂
This is why you don't take loose items on a roller coaster.
Its fuckin more higher and rickety than it looks
TCOG Clan I now I was so scared on that i was like "TF LET ME OUT e.e"
Is it just me or do small people (like me will know) can't see the drops because there's always an adult in front .-. Like if u know the struggle ;-;
YES
Just get taller 🙄

I remember going on it as my first roller coaster ride when I was little and as we start to go down I was absolutely shaking!
I remember my first ride all those decades ago. I think a few years later they opened the grand national ride. Good old days.
Anybody else notice Big Dipper briefly met the big one as the big one was going round a corner.
And you nearly have your head taken off by Steeplechase
Digital Deathsquid that’s what makes it fun
I love this roller coaster
Same here just got back from blackpool had a blast -_- Literally
Lol yeah THE ANTICAPATION :D

i think you mean the revolution, it was called the "irn bru" revolution for a while. The pepsi amx ride is the big one.
