Both of those were effectively banned by the EU but instead of Laws, OEMs agreed to withdraw them mutually. So no way they are ever coming back as the EU will fine and ban OEMs for being non eco-friendly. The USB-C Law and user-removable batteries are other EU moves along with 5 years of security updates and a law forcing OEMs to have parts for 5-6 years for any phone they make. These are just the ones I have heard of, but I suspect that USB-C cables will be withdrawn sooner than later, though that hasn’t been pushed due to USB-C cables not being aligned ATM.

was a diehard Note user since the 3. after years with a Note 8 i finally took a chance on a Fold 3 and was blown away, now also have a Fold 4 in addition to my Fold 3. i have the Pen and the full protection Supcase that stores the Pen. THIS THING IS A MACHINE...!!! 😎

For that kind of money, it's kind of shameful they don't throw in the S-Pen. Frankly, I miss the Note days, when they showed the S-Pen some respect.
I agree… A phone this size should really have the SPen built into the body like the Ultra phones do. I keep passing on these in hopes they’ll add that feature…

Foldable phones and styluses/S-pens don't mix well at all , the Foldable displays are extremely fragile and could be easily damaged by a pen or stylus so that's why they don't include one and plus they highly recommend that styluses be kept away from the folding display.

I have the Fold3. The inside screen protector has been replaced twice, one was under samsung warranty. Just last week the phone service told me that the hinges are close to stop functioning, which means the phone has no idea if it is open or closed. It did show signs, that's why I took it to get it fixed. Basically when I opened the phone the screen was black on the inside but was active on the smaller outer screen. So anyways, a few days later the hinge problem was solved my speakers stopped working. I can only hear my phone, videos like this thru a headset. Including making phone calls. So for me it was a no brainer to order the 5. I have to. However, I am looking forward the triple fold that samsung is working on. I was hesitating on getting a regular one screen phone, I had a very hard time getting used to the fold, it was a gift, I did not buy it by choice. But now I cannot even imagine having only one screen, small buttons etc. Nah. I am a fold-addict now.

Had the fold 2, 3, and just ordered the fold 5. Cant imagine switching back. If you use your phone for work, games, or watching videos, you will apreicate it very much. Tip: get a case with a spine protector, makes it easier to use one-handed.

I hope they expand the width of the foldable phone like a normal smart phone.
One question I have is that like I know it comes with a screen protector on it already but do you have to buy one to put up yourself anyways or just use it til it's time to replace it through warranty ?? Does the front screen need a screen protector ?? Also, I bite my nails alot and I'm working on it, but im worried that it's going to cause scratches all over the sensitive screens

I'd say that perhaps you should consider dragging your current phone another year until the next version comes out, as the improvements made this year are very negligible. Maybe next year we'll sse a redesign.

I mean better cameras, better performance, better battery life, a lighter and thinner formfactor, but just how noticable are these improvements really on a day to day basis?
Besdies the slightly wider cover screen, the remaining improvements aren't anything game changing. Although the imrpvements from the 2 to the 5 may be decent enough for some to justify an upgrade, I'm just saying that perhaps next year we'll see a redesign. Maybe the improvements made from the 5 to the 6 will surpass all the improvements made from the 2 to the 5. I just don't want this person to buy a new phone for such a high price tag and then feel left out or regret his purchase next year when a major upgrade comes to the series. Of course I don't know for sure that a major upgrade will arrive next year, but it is fairly likely as we've had the same design for 4 generations.
The current design has been pretty much mastered by now. I don't see anymore improvements left to be added next year besdies changing the formfactor entirely.
I'll wait for the Z Fold 10, maybe by that time the phone will include teleporting
I have the Samsung fold 3 and I love it. Yes it has some shortcomings like the goatee and screen protector that kind of wears out after about 10 months or so. Although the fold five is not a radical upgrade I really appreciate the refinements. I feel the Samsung is not afraid to take risk unlike Apple which keeps making the same phone for the last 5 or 6 years or more. This Galaxy fold3 has held my interest since I got it in November of 2021. I had the iPhone Pro Max 12 for about a year and after a couple of months got pretty much bored with it just saying!
But the crease is so bad 😢 as someone who has the fold is it rlly noticeable irl?
I'm still rocking the Fold 2. 2 years later, everything still works on it except the camera for some reason. I mean, it's gone through its fair share of drops, though, (yet I haven't cracked either screen ONCE) which quite possibly might have contributed to it, but other than the cameras not allowing me to record or take pictures (if I use any app that attempts to use any of the 3 cameras on the phone, it just gives me an error message and force closes the app) everything else still works just fine. I'm typing off of it right now. However, it's been 3 generations, so I think I'm gonna be upgrading to the Z Fold5. I've been saving up so I can buy the phone in full early next year. Ever since I got the Fold2, I refuse to use anything but a Z Fold phone anymore. It's just too convenient, and I've fallen in love with the form factor. I LOVE having access to a tablet-sized screen that can fold up and fit in my pocket like a regular-sized phone, as well as having 1-handed access when the phone is folded when I need to. I'm excited to try the Fold 5 when I can get it and see what has improved between the Fold 2 and Fold 5, especially the waterdrop hinge that allows the phone to fold flat. The water and dust resistance is also a welcome upgrade, not to mention a more current Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chip. Kind of a disappointment how they have hardly done any real upgrades to the camera since the Fold 2, but I'm not a photographer, and I'm sure the camera on the Fold 5 will suffice perfectly fine for me.
@SpecialAgentTinkyWinky i have a Fold 2 and while the crease is a little noticeable when you look at the phone on a camera or when the screen of the phone is off, when you're staring right at the phone during normal use, you don't even notice it at all. When you play a game, watch a movie, browse the web, etc, you hardly even know it's there. As far as how it feels: you really only ever notice it even exists when you swipe your finger across the center of the screen, but even then, it doesn't affect anything and the touch is as responsive on the crease as it is on any other part of the screen.

I wonder if Samsung should have dedicated the outer display for notifications. Like, you can use it in standard mode IF YOU WANT, but for the most part it should be an area where you take in things at a glance like it is on the flip 5. Just my thoughts.
Looking forward to the Fold 6 with a S Pen slot and upgraded camera

I thought the bigger hinge was indeed to prevent dirt from being trapped between the screen and causing scratches on the flexible screen? I really dont feel this is an upgrade as a Fold 4 user.
I've owned the Z Fold 3 since day 1 and it's the best phone i have ever owned. I just pre ordered the Unlocked Z Fold 5 1tb in black and i can't wait to give it a go. I was a Note user from 3 to 20 Ultra and now im all in on the Fold phones. I use the Supcase Unicorn Beetle phone case which houses the Fold edition S pen and has a kick stand.
I was from Note 2 to Note 20 Ultra! This is my first foldable phone, so I hope I have a similar story.

Do Not compare a gen 1 pixel to a Gen 5 Samsung Fold.. Google pixel just got into the game, Samsung plans were always to make the phone close flat it just took them some time because of the screen technology which they invented, Samsung is clearly the winner over the pixel.
Watching reviews now on phone is like selling a car without driving it! Phones are to talk on the phone!

I am Z Fold 4 User very much un Satisfied with the quality of the phone ,2 times I have to replace the front screen ,service centre people are saying there is a water log in the left side of front screen , & now third time the same problem arised after 2 months of screen changed from authorized service centre ,I tried to convince them about some thing manufacturing fault as the pattern is repeating, but they are not ready to listen
My next phone when s pen is built in and its as wide as a s23 ultra when closed.

The Fold needs a designated spot for the s pen, just like the Note had one. It also needs the high end camera, just like the note had them. It is a shame that you have to spend so much money on a product that is not even top notch.

Do you have a connection at Samsung? Tell them to just make it 2 screens with a tiny line in it. They are on their 5th generation with the same problem. I rather have 2 close screens than one that breaks in the middle eventually!

Umm... well it's up to him really.
Personally I don't really see a reason to buy a whole new phone just for a single year of usage. Perhaps he can use his current phone for another year if it is not damaged.
Otherwise he can get a non premium phone for a low price for the remainder of the year until the next fold comes out. Or he can just get the fold 5 right now if he really wants to. Like I said, it's up to him, I'm just advising.

Hey I hope people see this and yourself sees this... I purchased the fold 4 loved it until it broke down the crease I have now been in a battle with Samsung for over 2 weeks. They won't repair it and sent me a bill of £538! Which is a lot to pay for something you didn't break the reason is that there's a small scratch on the side of the front screen. I have been told by people high up in Samsung that they agree with me that it's not my fault but due to terms and conditions I have to pay! Please don't by into these prototype folds I don't want anyone to go through this.
Had the same problem but with the Fold 3. It stopped working on month 10. It supposed to have Samsung care + but they told me due to a tiny scratch on the hinge( which I got on day 1 bec. Samsung case came late), the warranty is void and I must pay, which I refused and cancelled the repair. Being a faithful Samsung customer since Note 1 that upgraded every single year, I felt cheated. REALLY, DON'T BUY ANY SAMSUNG FOLDABLES UNTIL THE INNER PLASTIC SCREEN BECOMES GLASS AND THE HINGE IS PERFECTED.

@@sgrp2706 I think the phone pawn shop i got it from put a stock looking firmware from a unlocked fold 4 on it from what I been told it was apparently a Verizon phone
I was going to buy the z fold 5 as work pays for my phone so can have any phone I like. But the number of reviews reporting defects/breakages of the fold 3 and 4 screen and Samsung's refusal to fix them even after only1 year of use turned me off. They look like impressive phones but no good if they break so easily and Samsung won't honor the warranty.
And the cost doesn’t matter for your work?

Samsung needs to design this phone like the pixel. It's a better phone than the wide Bezel under softwared Pixel but, the dimensions have always been not the best. I've owned every iteration and to upgrade = No this year. In a heartbeat, I'd buy the new Fold if it had the Pixel's dimensions.
Still no pen, never buying until the figure out how to build the phone with the S pen built in like the note.

Companies react to inflation two ways. Either they raise the price or the reduce what's being sold or both.
Pixel Fold is the only foldable phone that makes sense. Normal width when folded, a rectangular internal screen rather than a ridiculous square one like in these samsung folds

Not really. The upgrades are incremental, but they're upgrades nonetheless.
For that price all reviews are harping on the hinge. That's it?! That's the major improvement? I'm on the fold 3 and honestly it's never bothered me
Yes, much like the crease, the hinge gap is just forgotten. I am not making excuses, as an engineering design it was a poor show, but it was only a matter of time before Samsung redeveloped their hinge design to squash the gap, and better them to take the extra year with the Fold 4 and perfect it. Next year we will see a far better (wider) front display (Twitter poll said 86% want wider and only 14% of diehard Samsung fans wanted to stay narrow). It is slow but understandable as the Galaxy Fold is not making money (low sales versus Flip) and a redesign is extremely costly.
@@andyH_England Most people I know with the Fold just feel indifferent about the front screen. I would prefer a wider one, but I don't think it is that big of a deal tbh.
@@Tazza19931 That's because most people haven't had a choice. If there were alternatives I am sure it would be different. We see with the success of the Pixel Fold that competition breeds contempt.
@@andyH_England I mean, the people I'm referring to have used wider screens as well, including one who tried a Pixel Fold. But they just feel indifferent about the thinner screen. As I say, I don't think this all that big of a deal. Not saying a wider screen wouldn't be better per se, but I don't think the thinner screen is a deal-breaker by any means.
@@Tazza19931 maybe, it's just my point of view, but from that Twitter poll that had 86% wanting the Galaxy Fold 6 to have a wider display it seems the general consensus. Anyway, Samsung has confirmed that the Fold 6 will join all the other foldables and have a wider display. So in a year's time it will be academic, Samsung finally following the trend.

I am upgrading from the S21 Ultra to a Fold 5 as well. If I had a Fold 4, I wouldn't bother getting the 5. But this is a big upgrade for me and my first foldable, so it feels more warranted.

I think it's crazy how every other company have bigger outer screens when compared to Samsung. Save your money for the OnePlus Fold which will be announced within the next 2-3 weeks. The Honor Magic V2 also is looking solid, but ban will hinder that.

Yes, max brightness is only when on auto when under direct light as it kills the battery and will damage the longevity of the OLED diodes (well the green one).
