I’ve never heard this in forty years of being in Christ! We need to get this word out! My daughter and I are experiencing freedom, and grace in a way that we haven’t in years! Thank. You!

"Like new born babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that it you may grow in respect to salvation." 1 Peter 2:2. It seems very clear here that Peter, using the baby longing for mummy's milk illustration, that we should be like that with regards to longing to nourish our souls on God's Word. For the original audience, probably having no Bible of their own, they would have to go to the places where they could hear the Bible read, taught, and preached. Today, we do the same thing. We long for the word and gather with the saints to hear the Bible being read, taught and preached. Unique to us, however, is our ability to access God's word so many different ways. Pick up your own version of God's Word on the self, audio Bible in the car, podcast, sermon audio, UA-cam, online Bible Class, Christian radio, Bible commentary, study Bible etc. The resources are endless. This may be a reason why we do not gather like the NT saints did then. They met daily. And they probably had to just to get their milk. We usually meet weekly because we don't absolutely depend on church like they did 2000 years ago.

    Amen!
The family unit is important for teaching and fellowship too. Then the church is 'called out ones'. Called out from their homes to meet corporately.

We must know the word, it should be taught to us. The video is about treating daily bible reading as some sort of spiritual prevention measure.

This is shocking. “Listen to us your teachers, we will teach to what you need to know about Gods word. Don’t read your Bible if it’s discouraging because that’s not good.” Yes spending time with the church is essential, and a source of encouragement every member of the body must have. But also to know and study the word together, good heavens man God speaks to us through His word. You just said we can’t apply His word to our lives, what bible are you reading? Gods word was written for a reason, and it’s certainly not to be ignored by His people. I can’t believe you said some of the things you just said here.

Jesus said like ten times have ye not read? Bereans become Berean by reading the word of God. Sanctify them with your truth, your word is truth. Psalm 119 apparently is talking about being in church 24/7. They said in a similar podcast there were no Cambridge goat skin Bibles in the 1st century, therefore... So, apparently to them the invention of the printing press has been a net negative for Christianity (and God's providence apparently doesn't apply). They also, it seems, would have rebuked Tyndale for making the Bible available to the plough boy.

@@carolinetrace894 they are very reckless with how they go about their “ministry” I see a lot of pride and little humility in their approach.

Interesting that I can do half of my relationship alone and I haven't heard you saying anything about it. Not in this video or any other. I truly like your videos, but they seem a bit inaccurate. While I totally agree with the fact that as a church we need to grow together, but our lord spent a lot of time with the father. That example is obvious throughout the bible. The reason why as Jews didn't need to have personal copies has to do with their education system of the Torah. I'm sure you're aware of how disciples were made during Jesus time. It seems to me you're ignoring (please forgive me if I'm wrong) the personal part of our relationship with our lord. Church is extremely important. Being in a church that teaches the word correctly is very important. But our personal relationship is also important. While I can't add anything to my personal relationship with God and I can't add anything because it's all thru faith (salvation to glorification) I'm asked to do certain things. I don't do any of them because they add to my salvation, but because I love my savior.
Moreover, you're ignoring the fact the illiteracy was very high back in the first few centuries. That's why public reading was advised. But now, we can read and understand for ourselves and in relation with our church. Part of Luther's fight with the church was "A simple layman armed with Scripture is to be believed above a pope or a council without it." He was very adamant to get the bible translated. Why so if not for personal reading.

This was very helpful. It was overwhelming for me because sermons would be from a different portion of Scripture than I was reading at home during my personal time. There was a disconnect there. I prioritized my personal reading. It was even worse if I attended both morning and evening services.
I’m not so sure I knew the importance of church, even though, up until a few years ago, attended regularly. I’m just now beginning to understand the means of Grace. Your podcast, and the Facebook group, have been of tremendous help to me.
I’m churchless at the moment, mostly due to COVID, but also having to work every other Sunday. With restrictions being lifted, I do plan on attending a Presbyterian church after having been Reformed Baptist for many years.
All that to say, thank you for helping me understand more.

Thanks, Good word. Perhaps the only thing that set me back a bit was toward the end. I would never tell anyone to ‘stop reading their bible’. I might help them take a look at their extra-biblical expectations, reasoning, or formulatic methodology in what their doing but I’d never say, ‘stop’. I would however do what you said and tell them to visit with the brethren on this.

This was really interesting. I've never heard this before. It does make sense when you think about early believers not having access to their personal copy of letters and scripture. Good food for thought. And it does elevate the importance of the church gathering. I've been making more an effort not to miss the gatherings because of my faith in that as means God promises to use.

The Christians of the first 1500 years would also have no idea about computers or the internet, the medium by which your viewers are receiving your teaching. Should we then assume that, because it wasn't normative at that time, that we shouldn't be concerned with consuming your videos or content unless we go visit you in your local church? I do not mean to be harsh, but I'm concerned that what you're espousing could encourage new or weak believers to disregard seeking the Lord through the scriptures for themselves. Yes, corporate study of the word of God and sitting under the teaching of your pastors and elders is vitally important, but the tone of this video makes it sound like individual bible study has no merit at all.

This is a great question! How did they know in the first 1500 years of Christianity with no personal bibles? What can we read from scripture to give us that answer? I would read Ephesians 4. Paul tells us how we will not be lead into bad doctrine in that text

    • @dglatz
      @dglatz 3 роки тому +3

@@THEOCAST they might not know Ephesians 4 in the first place if they take your advice. Seems like that's the whole problem with Christianity today is that most Christians don't know their Bibles. Don't get me wrong, I find your channel interesting, but this particular video left me scratching my head a little. As far as the Bible in a corporate setting I agree, but don't Catholics believe the same thing? Isn't that why a lot of them don't seem to have much of a personal relationship with Christ, because they don't know Christ's parables, because maybe they don't read their Bibles as much as they should. Just offering a different perspective.

I’ll try and make this short . I got baptized a few months ago .. I’m still new .. ( never picked up a Bible till quarantine ) I was reading everyday .was so happy ,then I got baptized and shortly after I fell into sin again . And stopped reading . And now it’s been over a month since I’ve read . I don’t feel like reading . Fall into sin easily , anger is back more than ever . All of a sudden I start weeping when I think about how I’ve been acting/ my sining ... any guidance ?
