Holy cow, I actually know some of these songs and most of these artists... This seems like a cool music CD. It's basically like a "NOW" hits CD, but marketed towards kids and with Hot Wheels design slapped on it.
Would've been cool if they got Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, RATM, Sum 41, and Blink to be on this (and maybe calyx, Dom and Roland, and Rascal and Klone but that might be unrealistic haha). It's how I imagined every time I see an early 2000's Hot Wheels logo and aesthetic.
RIP AND TEAR SHRED THAT ENVELOPE WITH YOUR T E E T H weird early-2000s HW merch my beloved speedometer only goes up to 200? that's rookie numbers the tracklist is such a time capsule, 0/10 no Linkin Park the later volumes are at least slightly interesting, but volume 5 is the most eventful because it has the only known release of the TV cut of World Race Episode 4 that isn't only in spanish i still cannot believe that these random CDs, of all things, was the reason we finally got those lost scenes in english that 'Velocity X art' you mentioned, if you mean that blue Sho-Stopper, looks to be the same art that was used on a lot of early-2000s HW stuff, including the actual car cards, rather than something from the game in particular I'd definitely be curious in seeing what's on the bonus disk, and not just the demo the posters and screensavers and all that might be cute to see
Linkin Park would've been a great addition, but, to be fair, they were the most overplayed Rock band on the radio throughout the entire 00's. Especially the song "In The End" in particular. This CD is promoting some lesser-known Rock bands, with the exception of Nickelback.
Ah yes, I mistook that art as being Velocity X related, but I do remember similar art being featured on the cards of cars from the early 2000's, like you said. I haven't looked at the bonus disk yet, but I'm definitely gonna go ahead and do that. I could probably make a quick little video showing off the content of that disk. I love all the weird merch and stuff like this from the early 2000's, it's just great.
