C.R. You missed the point though. It’s not about worrying if she will go out of style, it’s the mere mention that it can. No one wants to hear that their skin color is on “trend now.” Like this is just my skin, always has and always will be. It’s rude to call it cool. Call the persons personally cool, but not their skin color.
yeah, i'm half black with a TON of freckles on my face. It really bugs me when people draw freckles on their face. I was bullied throughout school for mine, and they can just wash theirs off when its not "cool" anymore.
DanniTheL I have freckles too, but I see it as a compliment when people draw them on. It is evidence that mindsets can change, and what was once a cause for bullying can become something desirable.
Exactly, I also thought the same way when people say black is in fashion. It’s a really bad word to use because anything that is in fashion today may not be in fashion tomorrow.

I was also very happy for her mom's reasoning for staying in Korea. She's super selfless, she could have made life easier for herself but she saw the opportunity it presented for her baby so she stuck around...and look where that decision got her. Super proud of her mama.
Brisk XD although rights for POV and problems with racism in US is getting better it does not mean it’s completely gone. And Korea? That’s a whole other story. Please be educated and understanding that others throughout the world go through things even tho you don’t see it happening around you
@Alpha Kennedy You can't tell her that she hasn't experienced racism in Korea just because she isn't black. All Poc experience racism in different ways.
Really reminds me of the half Nigerian, half Korean model Han Hyun Min who made headlines for becoming the first half black model in Korea. Hoping that this trend continues and that acceptance and diversity spreads in Korea.
I am so proud of Youjin's mother who was able to raise such a well-adjusted bi-racial daughter with darker complexion as a Single mother in South Korea. She was probably scrutinized and mocked especially by middle-aged and older Korean women by marrying a black man and being a single mother all throughout her life.
@Akhnai SEAcel At 9:16 she says she raised her alone. Maybe he deserted (btw not all black men do that. Saying they do is stupid and racist) maybe he died, maybe he couldn't get a visa or citizenship so was deported? Who knows. From what i know koreans use the word "hip" to say "cool". Its not exactly the english "hip". She’s not an outsider though. She’s Korean. It’s not too much to ask to not be racist to a child. For a country that want to be taken seriously on a global scale, they don’t seem to be trying to appear welcoming of anyone who doesn’t fit some abstract physical standard
@@Peace-ht7fp nah I meant it more like make the rules fair everywhere, not really make things western. I don't think equality is an exclusively western idea lol
Everyone is mixed. There is no such thing as "monoracial" even though we walk around using that terminology. If you go back far enough, the Korean race didn't exist; it came to be through admixture of various people groups, including Mongolians. If you go back further, we all have an African ancestor. Race is a social construct, and the idea of a "pure race" is a myth. When you understand this, you will be freed from any hangups or insecurities you have regarding your own racial background.
@E I agree with your overall point, although I would caution use of the word "uniformity." If "Asian" is a race, as it is considered to be by the U.S. Census Bureau, there may be little to no phenotypic uniformity among its constituents, which would include individuals from the Persian Gulf as well as those from East Asia. Understandable though, yes, and perhaps more to the point, necessary - we can't function in a world without labels, though we would do well to understand their limitations.

It's really just about what people are used to seeing. There aren't a lot of Asians in my area so of course they'd feel like "other" until I get to immerse myself in their company and get familiar.

Percival Hans that’s not colorist. Racism is about race, colorism is about the hue. Does it fall under racism? Yes, but it makes the distinction that someone is okay with someone if they’re the lighter version of their race, as opposed to the tanned or darker version
Percival Hans ethnocentric? I was definitely not raised to base my opinion of a person’s character on their skin color. Nor have I picked up the habit on my own. I don’t care what color someone is or where they come from, because that doesn’t tell me who they are as a person. That’s just their culture and ethnicity. I don't understand why everyone dislikes black skin. Like for me it looks gorgeous and I can't understand why black people are made to feel like they're inferior for looking like goddesses
The US is somewhat to blame for that. It's sad because America is the greatest influencer in the world and in Asian countries especially East Asian countries where there's little to no black diaspora, the information and impression they get from black people is through American media.
People don't believe I'm korean just because I'm black & other things :( It's kinda mean when people say I'm not really a race because I'm "Too mixed" It's really hard to be mixed & be accepted still 😔
If anyone cares what race you are or aren't, whether positively or negatively, they aren't worth your time. You're an individual, not someone to be boxed into an arbitrary group. Just try and be a better individual today than you were yesterday. Anyone that is worthwhile in your life will notice, ignore the rest even if it's not always easy.
I'm Asian American, my children are also biracial and even here in America I've experienced the same, although I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. Unfortunately in Asian countries this is the norm and they do need to change and be more accepting. I commend her mother for helping her child to embrace who she is and sacrificing a lot of things. As a mom her story about the foundation really hit a nerve.
But not really though. We can't buy it. :( It's in duty free shops so you can only buy it if you're leaving the country. There's a whole population of black girls here sobbing in the corner because we've all been talking about it for months only to be slapped with that nonsense.
I also wonder if, when it's in store, they'll have the full color range. That's the issue in China. You can find virtually all the major makeup brands but they don't sell the full shade range. Talk about a catch 22!
Gorgeous. Glad she's finding work in Korea. And though it would obviously be scary and difficult, if things becomes problematic though, come to US! I'm sure she'll do great either way; she has a strong head on her shoulders. Good luck, Yujinssi!

If she lived in a progressive city like LA, New York, or Washington DC she would have been fine. But they are many people who still view biracial children as an awkward person and get left out of social circles because they don’t fit one when it comes to race.
@Dusk Dawg thank you for saying your opinion in a respectful way but I don't see how her skin looks unhealthy. I mean, it's not like it's the most beautiful flawless skin but it doesn't look disgusting. Korea has a lot of extremely good skincare products and healthy skin in incredibly advocated, but if she had bad skin it would probably be due to genetics or pollution. Still I would rather have her skin type than mine :/
i can't believe this is still a conversation in 2019...seriously Korean people need to fix they way of thinking its really wrong ...at this century ignorance can not be an excuse its voluntarily at this point ...just watch kids they don't even know what skin color is before you actually tell them and give strange meaning.come on people one love lets be smart and educated already
I understand what you are saying but I think it would be harder to think so outside the box from a place like Korea where only %3.4 is foreign and out of that percent people with darker skin is even less. I don’t think it’s right the stereotyping and prejudice but it’s probably all they know. and just think , people actually truly believe those things (stereotypes and things they see on tv or hear in music). The world is a HELL of a lot more loving than when I was in high school when it comes to race issues but I feel we are also a damn long way from singing kumbaya while holding hands 😉
suga suga because she doesn’t look korean and people don’t judge in purpose it’s just because it’s something different Black race is dominant and the kids will always look more black so people tend to find it weird if she is korean or asian in general maybe that’s why some people don’t support mixing relationships mostly to some races

Stereotypes will never disappear. It can only improve somewhat. I'm a Korean born and raised in LA and I still experience racism and especially stereotypes from other race groups to this day. 2019 or 2100, that's just how people are.
Lmfao just so you know blending cultures/ethnicity ruins the purpose of humanity. All ethnic groups are beautiful but if they start to blend in they will enhance the genetic mutation that will lead to gene defects. It's really saddening for the most part as time goes and it's becoming more and more problematic that's why stereotypes exists.
@@hojaeyun6747 that's an incredibly shallow and nationalist way of thinking. Staying within your racial group actually increases the risks of genetic defects.
hojae yun Not only is this ignorant and factually wrong, it’s bigoted as well. Race mixing does NOT enhance genetic mutations. Ever heard of dominant genes? It’s basic genetics. In fact, staying WITHIN your race increases your chance of passing on defects because your gene pool is smaller. And there’s no such thing as the “purpose of humanity”. Stereotypes exist because people are uneducated, like yourself, and spread false knowledge to other ignorant people.
I feel so bad for half black and half Asian kids who feel there not beautiful they have this unique beauty and black is beautiful we have beautiful skin color
In my opinion, most Black and east asian interaccial children can blend up easily with southeast asian people like Indonesian, Filipino or Malay. They have that oriental hint on their face but with more tan and chocolate flavor on their complexion. They are gorgeus.

Her name Yu-jin, not Bae-yoo. Her full name is Bae Yu-jin (배유진). Her last name is Bae (배) and her first name is Yu-jin (유진). China, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam, you place the surname (last name) before the given name (first name). Your name is Troy Bennett. Presumably, your first name is Troy and your last name is Bennett. In East Asia your name would be written on file as “Bennett Troy”, with your surname (last name) being put before your given name (first name). :) In case you’re curious, in Korean your name would be spelled 벤넷트로이 (Ben-net Teu-ro-i)
I have a new, weird view of half black half asian now. Not in a bad way but as a world that I never realized that existed. I’m half Japanese, half white American and since I went to an American military school in Japan and now in an American school, I’ve seen people with different racial background, ethnicities and halfs like me. But the half black students were always half Japanese. I never seen someone who was half korean. So whenever I saw a half black half Japanese, they always had facial features of a Japanese person but with a darker skin and curly hair, and to me, that person looked more to their Japanese side than their black side so it always made me wonder why people would say she looks foreign, when she looked Japanese to me. But when I saw the girl in the video, I kind of understood what the people saw when they say a half black person looked foreign. Although Koreans and Japanese people have similar facial structures, they sometimes seem different to me. And so when I saw the girl in the video, she looked more of a black person than someone who’s half asian. I mean, I can see that from her eyes, she’s asian, but without being told, I probably wouldn’t know. So it just occurred to me that people’s racial backgrounds aren’t always that obvious and even if they’re half asian, half black, they could look like one side, the other, or both. They won’t be obvious for some people and that people can have different view points to an environment or situation that their not used to.

It doesn’t sit well that her friends say her skin is “hip” and “cool”... those words suggest her skin is In fashion ..... so they mean her skin can go out of fashion...
Exactly, its so weird
Exactly, I also thought the same way when people say black is in fashion. It’s a really bad word to use because anything that is in fashion today may not be in fashion tomorrow.
Kudos to the interviewer. She looks so kind and eager to listen, very comforting. Great questions too.

Who knows.
Well said. We all share common blood.

Just try and be a better individual today than you were yesterday. Anyone that is worthwhile in your life will notice, ignore the rest even if it's not always easy.
Just accept you for who you are. But most importantly, how God sees you. Pay no attention to how man sees you.

💜💜💜💜💜 omg yes gurl I’m biracial too and omg I love how you showing off your mixed races with confidence. Tbh the United States wouldn’t have been better than Korea but definitely showing the world who you are.
Bonita Young I’m biracial too but I also live in a pretty segregated state and what I experienced is that I’m neither black nor white I don’t fit in each category but one in between. If she lived in a progressive city like LA, New York, or Washington DC she would have been fine. But they are many people who still view biracial children as an awkward person and get left out of social circles because they don’t fit one when it comes to race.
I will say she is very beautiful and classy at such a young age.
Dusk Dawg thank you for being polite about disagreeing 😉👍
@Dusk Dawg why?
AGREED
@Dusk Dawg I see. Kudos to you for being respectful about saying you opinion but in my eyes her skin doesn't look bad lol or is it just the makeup
The world is a HELL of a lot more loving than when I was in high school when it comes to race issues but I feel we are also a damn long way from singing kumbaya while holding hands 😉
suga suga because she doesn’t look korean and people don’t judge in purpose it’s just because it’s something different
Black race is dominant and the kids will always look more black so people tend to find it weird if she is korean or asian in general maybe that’s why some people don’t support mixing relationships mostly to some races
@@desertmoonlee6631 i am actually a mixed kid myself and growing up i been always told your not black enough or your not white enough and thanks god while growing up i got to understand i am more than enough i don't need to compare we are what we are get to no someone before judging it doesn't make sense to judge on skin color you are born with it even between them they tend to compare they can dark skin people with not even a bit of tan that's pretty weak for me ...understand i am not a hater i really love korean culture and music and a lot about i but i don't like the way they think its weird that they don't even understand what they are saying sometimes is not right its time to grow up
suga suga I get what you mean about “ not white enough, not black enough “ I am 37 and I use to get it baasaadddd when I was younger, so much so I had a bad complex and it took me a while to find “myself” and be proud .
Right like that this point it's just blatant racism
I’m half Korean half Black too :)
The mother’s love is boundless. I really admire her courage considering Korea’s very conservative society
I hope she doesn't have to deal with stupid sterotypes that should've been left in the 90's. 2019 isn't a time to judge someone based off their skin and assume xyz of their character using outdated and hurtful stereotypes. Best of luck to you!
Was there ever a time for that? Wrong is wrong.
Interviewer looks like the cute sloth from zootopia :)
I can't unseen it
I was scrolling through the comments then i saw this. I cracked......😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao
owo IKRR
@@ashleighlenora3792 I guess that's subjective...I actually think she's rather pretty and looks very kind and gentle 😊
Thank you for giving us all hope when we feel so different from others!
In my opinion, most Black and east asian interaccial children can blend up easily with southeast asian people like Indonesian, Filipino or Malay. They have that oriental hint on their face but with more tan and chocolate flavor on their complexion. They are gorgeus.
I'm half black and half Asian, and we look nothing like Southeast Asians.

Im a Filipina Blasian but my Filipino family has Chinese roots and sometimes I pass for fully Filipino so I agree
This girl is gorgeous. Absolutely love it.
Her mother is a beauty. She must have been stunning when she was younger. The young lady would do well in voice media. Lovely ladylike voice
She: Having such a slim and long leg
Me: *looking at my leg* Okay fine, I give up on my leg 😂
She looks just like my sister (Trinidadian and Filipina)
Brace yourself for the "NOT ALL ASIANS LOOK ALIKE" comments XD

My daughter and sun are half and half. I hope she will come to NY one day and my kids can see her, she seems like a beautiful role model inside and out.
I love her. She's so well spoken and poised! Great interview!
That was a wonderful interview. I am a 62 year old Black American man, and one of my daughters look a lot like Bae You. I heap praises on that young lady’s mother for loving for love’s sake from the time she met
her husband, and most importantly for raising a daughter not just alone, but biracial and with a true mother’s love. They are both beautiful; happiness, health, and success to both.
:) In case you’re curious, in Korean your name would be spelled 벤넷트로이 (Ben-net Teu-ro-i)
@@Dom_om_nom Now I know my name in Korean!😁
