There was one chain restaurant that used to be really big in my country, but then the news ended up revealing a scandal that the entire chain was keeping the tips for the waiters, on top of psychological abuse. In US waitresses literally live off tips (not a joke) and even though Gordon is Scottish I’m sure he understands the struggle having worked in American restaurants. Without tips most waitress’ incomes are unlivable.
Sara wasn’t a traitor. She was trying to show all the wrong things about the restaurant so that Gordon could help them improve. Isn’t that why he is there..?
Yup. Plus Gordon relies on the wait staff for help when eating at these restaurants because he knows they'll be honest with him about the restaurants' problems in a way the owners won't.
They can also do this cause you know they arnt lasting long from finding a new job or they get fired and they get payed for unlawful firing like the girl who got basicly kicked out and called a poisons viper
I love how Gordon is so polite to the waitresses, always calling them "my darling" and always saying "thank you" even if something is absolutely awful. He knows it isn't their fault.
gordon is always so polite and gentle with the servers bc he knows they are not making the poor choices, their bosses are. they are the liaison between the customers and the kitchen and they hear EVERYTHING from both sides.
Gordon never gets mad at the waiters and I love that about him. He’s serious about his profession and he’ll get mad at the people who are responsible for the food, but he’ll be polite to the other staff who are not at fault.
That's one of my favourite parts of the show, he obviously understands that the waiters / waitresses have no bearing on the food quality, yet are often unfairly treated like it's their fault by the general public. Seeing him interact and have a laugh with the waiting staff is great.
@@TheMessiahOfThe99Percent Bro some of the situations he is in. I think he is 100% full blown mad. I just think since its a show they 100% focus on it more.
Gordon gives you shit if you do your job poorly, and the more responsibility you are supposed to have the more he expects from you and the less he tolerates. He knows servers have nothing to do with the food, and he knows that many people who become great chef start as pot washers or servers.
Sara: “the owners don’t do any work” Owners who were sitting outside, chain smoking, and leaning against the wall while their business is literally dying: “what a liar dude”
You do realize these things are scripted right. Whenever someone makes a funny face when ramsay says something its probably not because he said something. Everything is taken out of context. Everyone whos done some video editting knows its really easy to film a bunch of snippets and throw them together for comedic/dramatic purpose
When he jokes with the wait staff with the badges and the cake, my god I’ve never had a bigger smile on my face I was laughing as if I was there that was just so amazing and wholesome
We have a Chef Mike in our kitchen, and he is a very important employee. Course we are a Dairy Queen so not exactly fine dining. lol Okay hes actually only for taking chill off chicken usually, to help folks not burn it on the grill.
I worked as a chef for a couple years but I'd use that line so much and nobody would ever know what I was talking about. It's pretty standard practice to microwave lasagna tho despite what ramsey says. You can't make each slice individually and it's impossible to plate while it's hot. You have to chill it before portioning it out which means you need to heat it in the microwave. It does go in the salamander afterwards which toasts the top, that's the only thing we'd microwave but ye, everything else is wrong to microwave and should be served fresh otherwise. Loved telling people to hand it to chef mike tho 😂 I'd love to see how Ramsey serves lasagna tho, pretty sure he avoids making it at all his restaurants for that reason but how are you gonna run an italian place without it?
I'm glad Amy's Bakery Company is no longer in business, but I'm remiss that they never faced legal consequences for taking the servers' tips (which despite an hourly rate, any tip pool MUST go to the server) and what likely would have been considered wrongful termination of employment.
Sammi got deported I believe and they divorced. I think it turns out he was using Amy by making the business in her name but asking her for money or something
"She just sold him the seafood ravioli, what is wrong with her?" She knows how to make the most out of things before bailing off a sinking ship hahahaha
As a server myself, I don’t understand WHY these owners and bosses despise and ridicule us so much. They deem us incompetent, not capable of describing dishes and below critiques for the sake of the restaurant and the customers. I appreciate Ramsey’s trust and ability to discuss the reality of a restaurant with these servers/ workers. I wish more customers knew the reality of things that go on behind the scenes. Please treat your workers kindly and with basic respect, no matter their position
I worked at McDonald's for a few years, then went to serve at a traditional restaurant. I quit that restaurant because the management was awful; I went to another restaurant and saw the same behavior from management there. I went back to McDonald's 😆 I ended up working at McD's for 8.5 years.
I'm sorry you've had some bad run-ins with some restaurants. I left the serving job that treated me so poorly and joined another restaurant also as a server. I'm happy to report not all establishments are horrible to their staff. I hope that you've had a similar experience working at McDonalds. Are you still happy working there? Sara's right. There's no point in keeping secrets from Gordon when he's trying to help you. The quicker he sees where the problems are, and the quicker the owners are to admitting it, the faster their recovery can be
It's amazing how so many people don't realize that simple fact. Hiding things means they either don't get fixed or he finds it anyway and then it looks even worse for them. Many of these businesses deserve to be shut down.
“I hate Sarah, she’s telling Gordon about what’s wrong with the restaurant which may be embarrassing for us now but will eventually help the restaurant”
I’m pretty sure in one episode they told us that the restaurant’s call Gordon to test or help out their restaurants But obviously just end up fighting like this
Kitchen Nightmares was probably spending $50,000+ on updating these restaurants. Maybe even a lot more. So it's like, "Ok guys, Gordon's going to come call us names and make us look stupid, but we just need to take it for a few days and we can increase the value of this dump before we sell it."
As someone who has worked in the food service industry on and off for the better part of a decade I absolutely LOVE how Chef Gordon treats all the hard working wait staff with absolute respect and actively fights for them. When he stood up to that asshole manager and his wife in the beginning for taking their waitresses tips I stood an applauded him.
"they've been complaining about the special all weekend" Ok then so why the fuck is it still being sold???? Should've gotten rid of it on the first bad night! Sara is right, they aren't doing their job.
Sara could EASILY make ten-times what she makes waitressing just base-level modeling. She is GORGEOUS. Also, I love how Gordon was genuinely amused by the 'Chef Mic' line.

I find it so weird that they ask him to come fix their restaurants and get pissed when the wait staff TELL him the restaurants problems so he can FIX it
They call Ramsey over expecting him to berate the staff and when he turns that on the owner and their shitty business practices then the owner gets pisses off
A lot of the owners and sometimes chefs are in denial and call Gordon and expect him to say “you’re doing everything right, you’re fine, I don’t know why your business is failing” they just expect him to automatically side with him
They call Sara a bunch of horrible names behind her back for being honest and not going along with the ruse and they have the nerve to act all shocked when she recommends the ravioli. That slow smirk had me choking on my laughter.😂
Sara just straight up exposing the dirt of the restaurant gives me life. She knew the weak points of the restaurant and she just gave the target to gordon. ✨😭
But that's what she's meant to do, the guy is literally there to help them. If everything was fine and rosy they wouldn't be a failing restaurant, if the weak points are concealed from him he won't be able to fix anything. Although to be fair, they're often failing because of the incompetent, delusional and egocentrical management/owners and until they change, the restaurant won't improve.
I didn’t like Sara she took tips from other waiters and the busser and instead of saying the problem she played a game with it to get on the owners nerves
@@_s6565 I watched the full episode she only went to tables she knew she’d make tips from and she was supposed to spilt the tips with the busser and she didn’t
As someone who worked in food service in Arizona for six months, I can tell you that there are NO worker's rights protection laws. Amy's Baking Company would've been able to take their server's tips and get away with it for much longer if this wasn't exposed.
I know right? If you know it's bad and you're saying it's bad then why are you feeding that to costumers in the first place. Like Gordon might say "bloody hell"
They didn't take it off because he have to sell as much of it as they can because they already got their shipment of the ravioli and if they don't sell it then they have profit loss
I feel so bad for the first girl, she’s being treated like trash and not even being paid properly for her trouble. She should have quit as soon as she realized she didn’t get tips
They are funneling money to themselves by paying them the minimum required by law and reaping all the potential tips. What they are doing is totally legal but just shows how little they give af about anyone else besides themselves.
Fun fact: If you watch the whole vids, the previous waitress/waiter that used to worked for those people were ordered to wash their car for them so they could keep their jobs
The owner who wanted to be a fancy upscale steakhouse/bar but also made his servers wear nametags is the most America brained thing of all time and I can't explain why.
I love when the owners are like “The servers won’t shut up!” They servers basically have nothing to lose at that point if the business is going down… Plus, honestly is the best policy
That waitress who recommended that seafood ravioli is literally a badass, she wanted to close that place like no other. Honestly all the waitress are just badass women who want to make things right frr
Watch the whole episode... the owners were definitely incompetent but the waitress was also quite manipulative herself, other staff also agreed that she manipulated tips and which tables she got frequently.
@TheSportsGuru Not exactly she was basically in charge of assigning tables as the head waitress so it isn’t so much “libertarian” as “totalitarian rigging of the system.” And apparently it’s easy to tell which tables will tip better and it was also easier for her to assign herself a few extra tables as well.

He sometimes gets mad for television, but most of the time he is god forbid infuriated at these hellspawn cooks.

Loved telling people to hand it to chef mike tho 😂
