The world needs people who are not afraid to do hard things. We need to look fear in the face, and charge forward to confront it. That's how good people are made.

I've watched so many of Dr Peterson's podcasts, interviews, lectures, etc. And it just horrible how this man is misunderstood and taken out of context. Dr Peterson is the most authentic and consistent lover of humanity. The attacks on this man should open everyone's eyes to what is really going on this world. He is a true treasure to those who are trying to get better and a thorn in the side of enabled and narcissistic. So if his words hurt, then u r probably convicted or narcissist. Hell yes it hurt to hear I was being pitiful. But I was able to get back in the fight because of this man. Thank you Dr.

Self development is key to embracing ones own dark side,,, Strong foundations are required on which to build controllable rage and anger
then there is the processing for both selection and management
This all has to happen naturally.. as people work and play they get used to the various situations.. and at the same time develop the logic and reasoning necessary for climbing the levels of competence and ability.. the next is resilience and resolve
But do not forget.. that life is balanced.. the rage and anger is nothing without the love and the caring.. a balanced individual will have much greater control of their dark side if they are able to care for others.. and also to reach greater levels of each

I wonder if there's a distinction between "where you don't want to go" (which ultimately makes you stronger and better, if you do go there and conquer it) and "where you're better off not going" (because no one can be good at everything, so why push yourself to try to do something you're hopelessly weak at?)

    • @nand3kudasai
      @nand3kudasai Рік тому +1

That, to me, is an extremely interesting question, that has been conflicting me for several years already.
I wish a had a clear cut answer. i think it's a matter of "there's no clear cut answer", it depends on each person, and also on each situation. It's a constant balance that requires constant conscious evaluation. Which takes effort. Which summarizes on "Know yourself" (and also helps you know yourself).
Also some places are better to stay away from, not only because you could be hopelessly weak, but also because it might "break you" (as you break a bone, get killed, traumatized, disabled, etc). Or it might just be a characteristic of you (eg trying to be something you're not).
The more i read about trauma, the more i think that the mechanisms that make you not-face your stuff (denial, dissociation, etc) are actually rudimentary protection mechanisms that are healthy and needed, is just that we need to keep pushing little by little or retry once we're stronger, and not depend on a such a coping mechanism for this situation (which ideally should be short term).
Also a key-point, i think is, the suggestion is "looking where you don't wanna look" more than "do what you don't want to do", is quite different if you try it long enough.
I had situations that i didn't wanted to confront. and after long uncomfortable work with them, the solution wasn't to "just let things be that way, get good, toughen up" but actually accept i needed something different and to make a change outside, the growth came from a different aspect.
Jordan mentions a couple of times about "Thinking through" and i think "through" is the keyword. I had many situations that i thought over and over and didn't made progress, because i was un/consciously avoiding to think about them (but compulsion brings them). but when i managed to sit and think them _fully_ and _through_ then the resolution came.
The counterpart to this (i think), that leads to the exact same conundrum is the (sometimes spiritual) lesson of "acceptance of reality as it is" (but only as you confuse acceptance to submission or "do nothing"). It's almost like the opposite to confront your shadow, but has the same conflict. (i think you can "accept" everything, but it's not healthy to always do nothing about it).

    • @Zykroh
      @Zykroh Рік тому

@@nand3kudasai I think you form a vision for yourself, then ask yourself the necessary actions to get there. The actions to get there isn’t necessarily easy to confront. If they are difficult and not easy to confront, you can consider them to be “Where you don’t want to go” And are necessary actions. The actions that aren’t corresponding with your vision or path, can be considered as “No one can be perfect at everything.” Also, tackling the actions that are difficult to confront yet aren’t corresponding with your vision or path, is what I think, meaningless suffering. When you tackle difficult actions, it is better to have a reason or purpose on why you’re doing them. Having a reason can lead to you having a deeper sense to your approach and learning.

The words about the patriarchy at the end really got me thinking/enlightened (I'm beginning to become a fan of Jung's archetypes, too).
Due to my involvement in the fight against gender ideology I'm in conctact with many feminists, left-leaning ones, and their view of the patriarchy is what often leads to tension resp. to me withdrawing for a while. Because it's engrained in their sense of self and something they won't let you doubt.
This good king - evil king dichotomy in combination with the dark side within us all really helps me to develop a helpful perspective on this topic and to strengthen my ground.
Interesting thing anyway, this dark side. I've been saying for years now that veganism is an attempt to get rid of this dark side, to deny it. As is - not for all but many - the fight against global warming and the whole woke stuff, BLM, CRT, Affirmative Action, Antifa etc. etc.
They all struggle to accept that they're the evil ones, too. They are terrified and can't cope and when they yell at conservatives, at pro-lifers, at "TERFs", they in fact yell at themselves, at their own dark self.
In German there's a phrase: "Weil nicht sein kann, was nicht sein darf", roughly: "Because it can not be what must not be." That applies here strongly, I think.
Edit-P.S.: Wondered where that phrase comes from. Its from a poem by Christian Morgenstern. For those interested:

“The fact that you have limitations means that the plot of your life is the overcoming of those limitations.”
(I suspect this means that I must accept my flaws and limitations, not give into them, rather to work to break free of them-to break free of a fraudulent affectation of who I am, and explore the limits of who I really am. Fine, but who am I? This is, I suspect, that state of chaos Dr. Peterson spoke of regarding the Jewish people leaving their bondage in Egypt only to find themselves in the desert. So...I am no longer a slave, but now there is room to become Nietzsche’s Ubermensch and make up my own rules? There is a piece missing here and I think it has to do with destroying the concept of God for the reality of being human with an inherited moral code with which we created God. I need to go for a walk. I just hope it won’t be a forty year slog through snake infested sands. It’s not about finding out what I could be, it’s first finding out who I am...that Oracle of Delphi thing: Know Thyself.)

If you want to find your dark side it's quite easy: think about something that makes you as angry as possible (real or imagined).
Next, imagine what you would do about it if you had the means to do anything your mind can dream up. Continue to press that line until thoughts stop surfacing.
If you're doing this honestly much of what came up was very dark, brutal and evil.
Finally, you need to understand you are NOT allowed to pin those thoughts on the thing making you angry. This is what YOU are like when you're mad, it's all you and always was. You think you'd be the benevolent dictator? Try the exercise again, sunshine. Get a hold of it or it will get a hold on you.

i don't know what he means by 'dark side'.....i understand fear and anger and everybody has to learn to manage their fear and anger....but 'dark side' is not synonymous with anger.....'dark side' implies evil and evil implies a directed intelligence not a raw basic emotion....some 'dark side' is fun and profitable for some people in some circumstances and some dark side is horrible....
'dark side' suggests moral computation and moral computation suggests moral code and moral code usually suggests some kind of religious consideration.....
pitiless cruelty in the form of sadism suggests psychopathy which is a mental personality disorder roughly analogous to being color blind in the physical disorder world, rather than simply a moral dark side....its debatable whether psychopaths have any awareness that they are dark people with a dark side doing dark or 'evil' things.
most people have the potential to do evil but their 'dark side' is small and weak and not a controlling factor in their personality

Just more of the "myth" that exposure results in good things. Experience has taught me how wrong this can end up. As a psychologist he's supposed to know that people are at various states of being ready or not to face that.

Unfortunately, my friends don't see nor understand what Jordan is saying here. Which means one thing for their lives, and another thing in our friendship. IMHO, they are drawn to me for saying the things out loud that need to be said ( i.e. social issues, their marriages, religion ) that they don't say for themselves. They are moreso weak. In all fairness, I am not arrived and have been working on incorporating my Shadow Self for decades, really. It's also partly why I watch anti-heroes and villains in movies, to Jordan's point.

    Do you believe in God?
What do you mean when you say "do"
What do you mean when you say "you"
What do you mean by "believe" when you do you believe in God
What do you mean when you say "in"
What do you mean when you say "god"
Yes Mr Peterson care to answer your own question?

I'm just struggling to understand this shadow part. I mean, wouldn't that be relative? If you put a chicken living in heaven without any knowledge about evil or hell, does he have a shadow? So the so called shadow wouldn't be something pushed to us throughout our upbringing? Through music, movies, experience, etc? Maybe the so called thoughts are from the collective entities. Why would you identify with it?

Ask Jesus Christ into your life and you are
Inviting the Holy Spirit of God/Jesus to do what man alone can Not continue too do.!

I disagree. The key is not to recognize you are capable of evil and then choose good. The key is to recognize that you are capable of evil, yes, but then you should go on to recognize that the majority of evil done is justified in the minds of those that do it. So the goal becomes not falling into the cognitive patterns that would justify evil.
Peterson’s way of looking at it would leave a person still at odds with a part of themselves and therefore not integrated.

Equadistant letter spacing makes the bible unique with computers they found words coded in the text at regular intervals, in genesis there are the names of numerous trees found at regular intervals ie every 98 letter , some words intersect like a crossword like “clinton” and “president” , 66 books written at all different times all with these words coded into the txt , impossible to all except a supernaturel God
