I’m a drummer who also likes to play like this! Honestly for me (and most likely for him as well) we naturally like our set to be like that, with everything just above our knees because of a style of holding our sticks often referred to as Traditional grip! It just happens naturally, and to the drummer’s preference. He could also already have scoliosis and that position just makes it easier to play, but idk
