It must be an incredible and nostalgic feeling playing songs that were released 17 years ago, and to think all that's gone on in your lives but you're still up there with your pals playing those songs from way back when. I always felt as though listening to American Football was like reading a diary or journal because they really encapsulated being young and put themselves into what they wrote. And that to me is what makes their music so captivating; let alone their outstanding musicianship. Each one of them has inspired me as I step into music and art being a 16 year old kid. I think about maybe being up on stage with my pals 17 years from now and playing some tunes we're writing now and it makes me smile. AF forever. ♥️
yo i went digging through this guys channel i found out he makes some seriously awesome music, anyone reading this go check out @minorleaguefightclub on youtube and bandcamp, seriously so good.
I used to watch Mike play drums in Cap'n Jazz when he was a quiet teenager. Always smiling, but always quiet. I love seeing where life and his talent and desire have taken him....and the others.
@@damesoumbi no I didn't grow up with them. I was moved to southeastern WI when I was 6 and grew up back and forth. At 18 I moved back to Chicago and stumbled upon the local punk scene.
@@Daffanitely you never know. They may reunite again down the road. You had to have seen them in their youth though. It's something you can't even out into words.
They're awesome, but they sing in another language and that kind of kills it for me. There's something to be said about being able to understand lyrics.
+MrMassivemeatlog yes words are "part of the music" but in music where the lyrics add to the emotional impact its kind of important to understand what theyre saying. learning japanese is difficult and they have words that cannot be translated into english so it can be hard to translate at all.
Because it hasn't been shared that much, limiting its audience, thereby letting the dredge of internet culture pour their negativity upon it, or because math-rock fans are the best?
Original music always lives on. Same thing happened with Slowdive and now the two bands that no one cared about 16 years ago are now hitting their strides.
They started the band knowing it wouldn't last long because many of the members were going to different schools at the end of the year. It was just supposed to be a little side project for fun.
creekandseminole people always shit on my generation music wise, but look at this man! People started caring about these bands again and they started to reconnect with genres like emo!
Reading is a bit of a weird festival for them to play to be honest, I don't see much of an overlap between the average Reading goer and an American Football fan. Thank fuck they played ArcTanGent a year later.
What, dude? Every show I go to is people standing arms folded wishing their feet didnt hurt. Certain bands attract mild mannered people that dont feel the need to move around endlessly and grin.
This was the first band I saw over the Reading weekend. I was so excited. I had wanted to see them for years. You can't really see it in the video but the crowd were pretty into it. There were a few people around me crying and really getting emotional over it. It was great.
Duuude... What a blessing that this on UA-cam. The quality is great and their performance is on point. I remember buying their first album in New York City on a trip with my parents when I was like 15 or something. I'm 28 now and this still gives me that nostalgic romanticized feeling I had back then. Kinsellas make epic music.
1. 00:00 - Stay Home 2. 07:18 - The One With The Wurlitzer 3. 10:05 - Honestly 4. 15:18 - For Sure 5. 19:00 - I'll See You When We're Both Not So Emotional 6. 23:49 - The Summer Ends 7. 29:04 - Never Meant 8. 33:30 - The 7's
After constant stress and sadness and grief I can always trust Americans football to turn my mood around. These guys are incredible and my life goal is to see them live someday. Truly a great band
I owe it to Real Friends for releasing their song "Home For Fall" and the lyric "and we could listen to American Football or talk about highschool, just like we did the years before." That lyric always stood out to me and I was intrigued who American Football was. I searched them up and found their song "Never Meant" and have been hooked on thier music ever since!
Isn't this lovely? It's bands like this helps keep us all sane, back in the day and again lately. And meanwhile we've had Joan of Arc to amuse and perplex us according to Mr Kinsella's mood. Check those records too. There are plenty of reasons still to be pleased with life on this planet.
I love that they played the 7's and honestly wish they would play it more. Ik it aint a popular song of theirs, but man it is so good. I'm so glad I got introduced to American Football and am a proud midwestern emo/king krule/hendrix guitar player. The guitar is beautiful in open tunings.
I remember running to this set with a friend who had not heard of them and I was more excited to see these, than anyone else on the bill the entire weekend. The crowd for them was much smaller than what would gather in there for most of the other bands, but it wasn't a bad thing since it was nearly all of the fans that wanted to see them.
So happy to have seen them, was a cracking set. Such a shame there wasn't much of a turn out, but it did lead to a great atmosphere seeing as 90% of those there were die hard fans of AF.
Es muy bonito ver una banda que esta ahí por la música y no por la fama, la plata, las mujeres o todo eso junto. Saludos desde Monte Grande, Argentina!
Easily the most under appreciated bands of the weekend, for emo legends it was such a small crowd, but then again it only made it more intimate. I was legitimately disappointed that everyone sang along to Never Meant but not The Summer Ends. Also Mike Kinsella was fucking funny. And why does the drummer look in pain throughout most of the show. There is so much to talk about from this show its just impossible to structure it so it sounds conversational I just want to be there again.
looking at the drummer having such a good time makes me smile every time
+Phoebe Buffay
i noticed that too. :)
+Phoebe Buffay Man I imagine writing parts this good would be a lot of fun
+Phoebe Buffay I totally cracked a huge smile when I first saw him smiling too.
+Phoebe Buffay ive seen your comment like three times and never realized your name hehe
that dude is actually a PhD, he teaches English at a Colorado University. really interesting guy
I'm amazed they started with Stay Home. I always felt that song as a closer.
Pablo Hentschel Fernández same
they usually open with stay home and end with never meant

I love this band too. Though, I do believe that drummer's arms are burning from holding a cadence on those symbols for 3 minutes

you can still tell the emotion from tone and contex.
+MrMassivemeatlog im not saying that you cant enjoy and appreciate it. im just saying you dont get the FULL effect and impact that they intended

Because it's not about politics?
Grover Asylum lmfao
Because guys who listen to American Football are certified nice persons

The funny thing is that these kids in the audience are totally underwhelmed by this, but this might have been my ultimate concert to see.
Reading is a bit of a weird festival for them to play to be honest, I don't see much of an overlap between the average Reading goer and an American Football fan. Thank fuck they played ArcTanGent a year later.
