If you’re a comedy fan you need to buy Louis ck tickets, Dave tickets, burr tickets, and you need to make a trip to skankfest at least once
Knowing like 30+ ppl whove gone for years, based off their opinions it seems like the best festival type event you could find, but if your not down with/a die hard fan of like all the comics/pods that are around thst scene, i could see it being not as great an experience. I dont think Vegas helped that either🤷♂️

Yes, 100%! Trying to "manufacture" fun usually doesn't work. The most fun times are, for the most part, spontaneous and one time deals. Nick himself has expressed this b4 with trying to rewatch old Simpsons episodes and feeling like he's hooked up to a dialysis machine slowing waiting to die. It's very relatable but very gay of us to feel this way. First world problems for sure. I dont wanna get too preachy but i feel the best way to live to the fullest is to experience as many new things as possible and never succumb to an "all eggs in one basket" mentality. Also im gay.
I'm glad Nick is not afraid to show his true self. I'm not sure about the entertainment value in the long run but who cares. If he sticks around he wil get out of the slump eventually. Time does that to a person.

they'll look back at this podcast, maybe even this episode in particular, as a poster example for whatever era of art we're currently in. to be so abstracted from the art-making process as a result of being so critically aware of ones place and potential place in history, is tantamount to the all existential pondering of ones place in the universe. the struggle for meaning. the artistic choice here is not only the choice to feel defeated by this fact, but also to create in spite of it. to create something, anything. to just express ones view on something, as fleeting and immediately regretted as we fear all lives must be. an ouroboros of self reflection. endlessly warping. endlessly approaching whatever 'self' is, in a society ebbing between collapse and singularity and the urge to find a difference between the two.
The point about being self aware of ones place in history made me think Nick may or may not understand how good he is but i think he realizes that he has no control over how he'll be remembered. I think that's what's bothering him.

The description of that spread was genuinely depressing. You could slip it right into a Solzhenitsyn book, and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and not just because I've never read anything by Solzhenitsyn
Lol Gulag Archipelago and the subsequent one, the title of which I am blanking on but it's about the network of people that helped him write and disseminate the writings while in the camp, are both worth reading. If you like reading, obviously, and if not there's always audiobooks. I think they are so well written and the subject matter is so real and visceral that it hits an exciting note like good fiction does. I've not found too many nonfiction books that are as captivating as fiction. Non-fiction writers are such a weird group of writers. Like...they write well, all around, but there are some who seem to be ok writing in a dry and technical prose and then there are the creative and powerful ones who use nice creative prose and keep it from feeling less like a text book by adding conversational techniques like quips, anecdotes and little attempts at joking. All in all, Gulag Archipelago is absolutely a fuckin banger of a book. I killed it, cover to cover, in one sitting on a Saturday a few years ago

Honestly, I kinda get where he's coming from. Sometimes you do something that in the moment felt fun or exciting, but looking back on it, it doesn't seem like it was all that great. Maybe some negative thoughts/feelings overshadow it in retrospect, maybe it didn't live up to your expectations, and now, even though you had a decent time in the moment, the memory of it just feels lackluster/disappointing.

I was introduced to Nick Mullen via the Bonfire, which lead into LOS, then Cumtown. It’s a bummer to see the lack of enthusiasm around the festival, and the community as a whole. But I understand.

I watched a few of these podcasts and then stopped because it's so dreary to listen to these guys anymore. I guess becoming so rich and obsessed with being sober is not exactly a recipe to being fun to listen to. Skankfest, more like snoozefezt. The community also used to carry the show back in the cumtown days but nowadays it's so childish and repetitive "DUUUUDE LMAO I'M SO IRONIC END EVERY SENTENCE BY STATING I'M GAY" wow, that's so funny and original
