The most likely location of the lost footage from both franchises is in the Lucasfilm archives. Specifically, in the feature film vaults. In the case of the original “Star Wars” trilogy, it’s been confirmed that George Lucas kept all the pieces of them. Even the stuff that wasn’t used.
Lucas was meticulous about archiving and preserving things...unless they got stolen like Han's original blaster prop and stuff like that. The early 2000's dvd release talks about Lucas' main instruction being, "faster and more intense". That was basically it, unless new info has surfaced since.
Better explanation for why Obi Wan didn't tell Luke that Darth Vader was his father: he wasn't, until Lucas decided he was when writing the script to *The Empire Strikes Back*
The Marvel comics adaptation of Empire used several of the deleted scene pictures like the Bacta face bandage and inferring the Wampa attack on Hoth base. It might be interesting to get ahold of those issues and look for shots taken from other deleted scenes. The artist essentially traced the majority of his artwork from movie stills as they wanted the comic to look as much like the movie panel for panel as possible. I loved that as a kid as there wasn't even VHS as a widespread format that everyone had available. So those issues and the odd kids book and magazine with loads of pictures carefully chosen to ensure the Mood and Feel of the film carried over into them extending the life of Immersion for fans.

Wow just amazing 😮😍 over the years I’ve watched all the extras/deleted scenes on various different DVD & Blu-ray releases but to see new footage like that is from these 2 great franchises makes me so happy 😁😁😁
For the Wampa walking with a passed out Luke, instead of trying to make a very tall Wampa dragging a life sized dummy of Luke, all they had to do was take a tall man, not on stilts dragging an undersized dummy of Luke. This way they wouldn't have had all those problems. The scene was in the snow, there were no other reference points that would have given the trick away and it would have saved them a lot of trouble. Of course this in in hindsight now, I'm just surprised they didn't think of it.
KotCS & TLJ were the 2 most heartbreaking moments of my movie-going life....I’m still heartbroken, deflated, and crushed from my one viewing of each....

I cannot begin to thank you enough for sharing those snippets, it is my absolute favourite Indy film, hands down and I am always so, so grateful for new material! This, to me, is treasure :)
Fantastic. I had heard of several of the Indy missing scenes, but far from all of them. Most interesting to me was the Knight's participation in the ending, which would help explain why he's suddenly just there at the end. I still think it's a shame Henry never got a chance to actually meet and talk with the Knight. Thanks for the great video!
The line was originally "If you are Scottish lord, then I am Jesse Owens!" Watch his lip sync. They changed it to "Mickey Mouse" in post for fear that audiences in '89 wouldn't understand the 30s reference.

Theres a scene from temple of doom showing Short Round been whipped before Indy is forced to drink the blood, and Indy is yelling "Leave him alone you bastards" it can be found on a bonus VHS feature when it was re-released in 1999

I remember seeing the image of Luke having the mask removed. It was either in a story book that featured production stills or in the Marvel comics adaptation.
The original Wedge/Luke scene always confused me as a kid- it even got referred to with pics in early kid's books, so I saw it before seeing the movie and didn't understand what happened. It was a late enough cut that really early merchandise still had scenes deleted- my first experience with the concept. Raw SW/Indy footage would be a holy grail, especially as deepfake tech advances.
The long version of black swordsmen is show in the making of raiders documentary which I saw before the film. Greatly intensified the surprise of the theatrical version
1. Love that “Wampa!” Insertion. 2. I’m quite sure I saw the Luke face mask and Han torture sequences when I saw Empire at the cinema in Sydney city as a young child. However, I thought there was an extra scene with Ben visiting Luke in the wampa cave, which I’ve never seen any evidence of.
Yeah, that was from a featurette on NBC about Last Crusade. I taped the show but alas, that was many moons ago and that tape died or was recorded over by my brother for WWF Monday Night Raw and WCW Nitro.
I remember there was a youtube video that was on here back in 2013'ish. It was a total length of 7 hours and it had all the deleted scenes and storyboards for the original trilogy. It stayed on youtube for 1-2 weeks and it was removed. I'm glad that I was able to see it. The most memorable piece was the deleted scene of Luke assembling his new lightsaber before heading to Jaba's Palace.
Wow, that was really cool. In a perfect world Disney would release the original Star Wars trilogy on Blu Ray or 4K with the Theatrical versions, and with tons of deleted scenes that are locked away. Same with Indiana Jones.
If Kathleen Kennedy continues to send them broke with her narcissistic arrogance, then they may very well have to release them, to recoup substantial losses she effectively incurred.
Indy doesn't need to be told not to touch the Ark and to use the staves instead, that much is detailed in the Bible, which he clearly has studied, particularly with respect to the Ark of the Covenant. The description in the Bible includes mention of the rings for the staves, so that the Ark can be carried without touching it. Funny also that you didn't mention why Indy's fight with the swordmaster was shortened - the final shots were to be done on a day when Harrison Ford was sick, and could barely stand up. That's why he looks so haggard in the shot, as he opts to shoot the swordmaster. What I swear changed between the original theatrical cut and all subsequent releases was the removal of his dialog as he shoots - you can clearly see him mouth the words "oh shit".
Because honestly, that "fact" is pretty much common knowledge and I get so tired of people thinking it's some sort of "secret" that nobody else knows, so I felt that going into it was just pointless. It's also so bogged down by inconsistencies...some say Spielberg had the idea, some say Harrison did...some say it was on the spot and improvised, some say it was planned right before shooting the scene, etc.
I love Star Wars but Indiana Jones is my favorite movie franchise ever, I saw raiders before any Star Wars movie and it blew me away and changed my life
Not exactly. The Last Crusade is nothing more than Spielberg's attempt at making a Bond movie. Seriously, he made that movie to in order to show what a Bond movie from him would have been like.
Very nice sir! Regarding the Star Wars OT, I did have a bunch of those behind the scenes of Hoth saved, but like you mentioned I think the majority here were promo shots in one way. I was always intrigued by the lone scout walker and how it sorta disappeared. Never found any evidence but apparently that battle was more involved but due to time constraints it never made it from paper.. There is still an omission in Return of the Jedi that still hasn't been shown. Right before the rebels amass and attack the Death Star before finding the shields are still up, there were rebel fighter ships that did not make the sudden transition and slammed into the shield. I saw it opening weekend that year and that scene was included - was also corroborated by other fans. Like you, the Indiana Jones *trilogy* is my favorite of mine. Raiders for the most part is pretty well edited in my opinion... I do wish that scene with the shaman was included regarding the ark. My biggest question to the movie is, who is the Dengar looking Nazi all bandaged up that's in the foreground on the Bantu Wind ship. There has to be a backstory here??? The one deleted scene you mentioned from Temple about the black sleep - I see why that's cut. Now you're bringing moral dilemma - did Indy kill innocents under a trance? Last Crusade is another one I agree with the editing for the most part. It wouldve been too over the top comedy-wise if some of these scenes were included. keep the exposition on the plane to Venice; keep the blowing up the entrance to the Canyon of the Crescent Moon as to why the temple has remained hidden all these years.
So originally the scene with Vader and Ben the lightsabers were motorized and they spun a reflective film on the rods creating a shimmering effect, They encountered a problem with actually dueling with them where the mechanism would stop, the reflective film would come off and the rods bending. Later they found it easier to rotoscope the blades on. From what I’m aware they clipped into the prop hilts since they were made of old camera flash holder for Vader’s and an amalgamation of random items for Ben’s. A wire to the battery pack was ran up the sleeves of the actors to the hilts, and you can still see Ben’s in the fight pre-2011 Blu-Ray release and in the picture in the video. In the end they took the reflective rods inserted them inside the hilts and again just rotoscoped them in post.
Whoa! This video just shed light on something I've been wanting to know for years: so ever since I discovered IDMB who knows how long ago, I've been aware that the same actor portrays baddies who Indy fights in all three movies: the burly German in Raiders who he fights under the plane; and the big thuggee he fights on the conveyor belt in Temple: same guy. So this guy also played a character simply called "Gestapo" in Last Crusade, and I could never figure out who that was, and now I know why, hes the guy in these deleted zeppelin scenes! Holy cow thank you man. That got me nerding out big time lol
Pat Roach, who appeared in the other two movies in multiple roles, including the Giant Sherpa, the Mechanic, the huge guard that Indy fights in the mines in Temple of Doom, is listed as a Gestapo officer. This outtake explains why his name was in credits along with the actor who played the WWI pilot. You see Roach in a brief scene where he's following the other Nazi officer onto the zeppelin. It is a shame they did take out these scene because in sense Pat Roach played memorable side characters in the three movies.
No explanation was ever necessary for how Indy knew not to look. Any Archaeologist specializing in Biblical artifacts would have read the Old Testament during which the big bossman says “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” - Exodus 33:20
@@YesterworldEntertainment During production it was Return, then it got changed to Revenge while they started up marketing, then it got changed back to Return from what I know.

@@WaterbenderKatara22 No, but audiences didn't see the subtitle: Episode IV A New Hope until the re-release just before the release The Empire Strikes Back. Lucas wanted to do it that way originally, but the studio thought it would confuse the audience. Then the Wampa commercial came on TV and made everyone laugh.
@@WaterbenderKatara22 Well, the one which we know as "A New Hope" had several titles in early script versions. "THE STAR WARS" was the first draft. "ADVENTURES OF THE STARKILLER Episode One: The Star Wars" was the second draft. "THE STAR WARS: From The Adventures of Luke Starkiller" was the third draft. "The Adventures of Luke Starkiller as taken from the Journal of the Whills (Saga I): STAR WARS" was the fourth draft. And, as we know, it was only "Star Wars" when it first hit theatres. Another fun fact: when they started shooting, Luke's name was still Starkiller. The only time his full name is mentioned was when he introduces himself to Leia. When they shot that scene, his name was changed already to Skywalker, so it was not a part of any reshoots.
One of my favorite, albeit minor bits of lost content from Return of the Jedi, which wasn't brought up here, is that originially, there were supposed to be at least three female Rebel pilots in the film. They would have been portrayed by Vivienne Chandler, Poppy Hands and an unidentified third actress. While Hands' role technically made it into the final film, her lines were dubbed over by a male actor, presumably to hide the fact that the character was originially intended to be a woman.

You can really hear the Mark Hamill in some of those scenes lol
Thank you for sharing this video with us! These two amazing trilogies are already incredibly well done and yet, it’s quite interesting to see how they could’ve been very different from the final product. This is a fantastic example of the amazing content that makes me truly appreciate your channel! Long live Yesterworld!
Oh, my goodness - Those outtakes and extended bits from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom have shaken me to my very core - in the BEST possible way! I cannot begin to thank you enough for sharing those snippets, it is my absolute favourite Indy film, hands down and I am always so, so grateful for new material! This, to me, is treasure :)
Those deleted scenes belong in a museum!
So do you.
What an absolutely FANTASTIC video! Being a huge Star Wars OT and Indy fan, this was so interesting. Had lots I didn’t know about. Thank you 😊
Extended cuts of the OT movies utilizing unseen footage would be beyond awesome.
The line was originally "If you are Scottish lord, then I am Jesse Owens!" Watch his lip sync. They changed it to "Mickey Mouse" in post for fear that audiences in '89 wouldn't understand the 30s reference.
Ah, Wampa. The world's first Pokèmon.
What are the odds that Defunctland and Yesterworld post on the same day, within an hour of each other?!? It’s like Santa dropping off extra presents for Christmas! My head is spinning!
3,270 to 1?
Lol, both of them are related to toys too. Star Wars toys at the Times Square Toys R Us.
And what’s even crazier is that Defunctland even mentioned Yesterworld’s nemesis in his video, Bette Midler

I came here to say this exact comment, but glad to see a man of taste had already done it for me. Respect G
At 6:22, they're missing the footage where General Rieekan goes nuts when he finds out there are no Waldorf Salads on Hoth.
Theres a scene from temple of doom showing Short Round been whipped before Indy is forced to drink the blood, and Indy is yelling "Leave him alone you bastards" it can be found on a bonus VHS feature when it was re-released in 1999
Oh that's in the theatrical release. In the UK though, Temple of Doom was waaay cut down by the BBFC, especially the sacrifice scene
@@dalemccarthy only ever seen the standard UK TV and VHS versions even the 2003 DVD is cut i wonder if theyll add it on the 4K blu ray version?

YesterWorld and the Raiders of the Lost Scenes
Nice one
@@YesterworldEntertainment thank you. Nice episode. You really did a good job
underrated comment +1
I'd watch that.
That Raiders bit which seems be a test rehearsal or audition (19:42) with a hotel lobby standing in for Marion's Bar. That's Tom Selleck! Selleck, of course, was originally cast as Indy but had to drop out due to his contract with CBS and Magnum PI
Nice of you to put the time in, I really like your videos man, keep em up
6:36 - I saw Empire Strikes Back on opening weekend NYC at the Astor Plaza. To this day I swear that that 70mm print showed a longer Solo torture sequence. I know I've heard some adjustments were made to the film before the 35mm release a month later so perhaps I am right?
I'm just like you, I LOVE deleted scenes especially from old movies. To me, they still feel like canon - they were shot for a reason by the directors and time was taken to carefully plan them. I really appreciate that aspect and I can't get enough of these. It just so happens that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have some of the greatest deleted scenes of all time. I'd love to see more from Jurassic Park, like Lex with the Trike baby.
Great video I would love to longer version of both these films
“Wampa!”
🤣🤣
Thanks, great insight. I love in the shot where Donovan shoots Professor Jones, he uses a Walther PPK. So, essentially, James Bond gets shot with his own gun. Nice.
Merry Christmas
Oh wow that Wampa suit is really a disaster
but Id love to see the uncut Wampa attack cause, wow thats a lot of Wampa, actually the Shadow of the Empire game seems to follow up on that by having captured Wampas in sealed rooms
WAmPA
Battlefront 2 (2005) also has a hunt level where the Rebels have to fend off Wampas.
Thank you for including Jympson, because that "Star Wars saved in the edit" video is full of comments from the ill-informed assuming Lucas was responsible for the rough cut.
Guys, is Jympson still alive - i'd love to hear his version of events!
@@thedys70 Passed away 2003. I suppose his version of events would be that he was asked to assemble the footage as per the shooting script or whatever instruction he was given.
Can't really blame him, seeing as most people working on the movie were rather confused about what they making, and what it was supposed to be.
@@Ruylopez778 So he's long gone; thanks for the update. Guess he took that story to the grave with him...

Hahahaha hahahaha 😂😹 The newest epidemic: sudden & constant (Star Wars variety) "Wampa!!!!!!" outburst and repetition, as seen here in this chat!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😹😹😹😹🎉💞!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there an alternative cut of EBS where the Wampa says "WAMPA! WAMPA!"?
I remember seeing the image of Luke having the mask removed. It was either in a story book that featured production stills or in the Marvel comics adaptation.
The original Wedge/Luke scene always confused me as a kid- it even got referred to with pics in early kid's books, so I saw it before seeing the movie and didn't understand what happened.
It was a late enough cut that really early merchandise still had scenes deleted- my first experience with the concept. Raw SW/Indy footage would be a holy grail, especially as deepfake tech advances.
That's Biggs not Wedge.
The Biggs scene is really neat, but it stops the movie dead. There's no way to include it and keep the pacing of the opening.
The actress got caught up in a royal sex scandal
@@RGC-gn2nm Koo Stark.
There used to be 45 mins of privately filmed behind the scenes Hawaii footage from raiders but it’s not on UA-cam anymore
I would kill to see more Indy deleted footage.
14:41 Excuse me, did I just see Harrison Ford staple his hat TO HIS HEAD?!
Most likely a sense of humor filmed. The stapler had to be empty I figured.
Yeah, that was from a featurette on NBC about Last Crusade. I taped the show but alas, that was many moons ago and that tape died or was recorded over by my brother for WWF Monday Night Raw and WCW Nitro.
I had totally forgotten about the toy Tuan Tuan with the break open belly to shove a Luke into.
The lost cut would make a good disney plus content
Great idea!
Spielberg saw sharks in the script and was like "NOPE!".
I had that comic book adaptation as a kid in 1980!!!
I love Star Wars but Indiana Jones is my favorite movie franchise ever, I saw raiders before any Star Wars movie and it blew me away and changed my life
The original Star Wars trilogy and the Indian Jones trilogy are SO AMAZING , it was ridiculous to think they could recreate it
Welp...they'll keep trying
Not exactly. The Last Crusade is nothing more than Spielberg's attempt at making a Bond movie. Seriously, he made that movie to in order to show what a Bond movie from him would have been like.
@@SirBlackReeds Last Crusade was AMAZING. Better than all the Marvel and Disney Star Wars movies put together.
@@SirBlackReeds The whole series was Speilberg trying to make Bond movies
Always a good day when yesterday posts
7:56 “Revenge of the Jedi” sounds a lot more menacing than it should… maybe they got revenge for Order 66
5:19 OMG. That took me by surprise and I laughed until I had tears in my eyes.
16:56 - So thats where that line from 'dogma' came from!
1:07 lmao "it's working!" I love that clip
Thanks for the video. Happy holidays to you & yours. 🤗🇨🇦
You're a honey
U back with another great one.
He was also the Tibetan henchman
Now that I think of it I can definitely see that, and I know exactly which guy you're talking about too. Cool stuff bro thanks
No problem. Where are you from?
NY
I’ve only just discovered your channel and am so glad I did. Your videos are fascinating!
GOD DAMN! Whispering is one of my all time pet peeves!
Vow, this was really interesting, I’ve not known about this extra STar wars footage.
If that “Wampa!” commercial came out today, it would immediately become a meme.
I wish you could have used something like this for your ad:
"Use Honey, one of the only places to find..."
*kid screaming "WAMPA!"
:D
In hindsight, incorporating the WAMPA! kid into the sponsor would've been a brilliant idea...sigh
No explanation was ever necessary for how Indy knew not to look. Any Archaeologist specializing in Biblical artifacts would have read the Old Testament during which the big bossman says “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” - Exodus 33:20
Imagine Luke trapped in the ice cave on hoth, and the Monster keeping him in was crying “Wampa” like that kid in the commercial!
That kid, as far as I am concerned, is a national treasure...maybe someone can track him down?
I feel like props from deleted scenes are their own market among collectors
Agreed on Indiana Jones being the best movie series. I _think_ The Last Crusade is my favorite. A lot of those scenes are cemented into my mind.
Luke saying "Well right now, I don't feel too good" is a mood if I've ever heard it
I wish I could find the old black and white footage where Palatine takes about how he almost killed Yoda in episode 6.
Do you post when defunctland posts on purpose? It's awesome!
Oddly enough, this was supposed to go up Yesterday (Sunday) but I needed an extra day to tweak a few things
8:08 "Light bulb man" looks like a sleep paralysis demon! 😬
Ooooooh I love this series, hope you do more deleted scenes and stuffs
Was the movie originally going to be called “revenge of the Jedi” or did that commercial voiceover person mis-speak?
"Revenge of the Jedi" was the original title, but it was changed to "Return" because "Jedi's don't seek revenge" or something along those lines.
@@YesterworldEntertainment During production it was Return, then it got changed to Revenge while they started up marketing, then it got changed back to Return from what I know.
@@YesterworldEntertainment huh, that’s really interesting. I think return of the Jedi works better anyway. Did they change the names of the first two movies during production/filming/marketing as well?? I find that sort of stuff fascinating.
@@WaterbenderKatara22 No, but audiences didn't see the subtitle: Episode IV A New Hope until the re-release just before the release The Empire Strikes Back. Lucas wanted to do it that way originally, but the studio thought it would confuse the audience. Even still, back in 1980 there were people saying Star Wars II is part V, which means part I is part IV, and somehow that just added to the mystique of it all.
I really love the look of the sabers in that publicity photo!
I never walk away from an opportunity to say that I LOVE Temple of Doom.
It's my favorite Indiana Jones movie then Raiders. It's from an earlier time than Raiders. Love the Chinese area and night club. And then India.
I would love to see a sequel to this involving all the deleted scenes in the Lord of the Rings trilogy
