    Nice clean work, however, it is very important to round the corners of the patch. A square corner is more likely to be peeled back if impacted by foot traffic or some other reason. In this case, it's not so serious because it's a large patch and there is a large overlap onto the roof. When it's smaller, there is shorter distance between the edge and open roof cavity.

      @jessemcafee3460 Рік тому

      What shall I do when a right angle corner is lifting up and now is quite dirty between the layers? Not sure if i should just clean do follow other steps to re-seal it or if I need to cut it out. Its the corner of a large square piece of rubber (several feet by several feet) with a seam all along the perimeter where the rubber wraps around the edge of the roof of the mud room.

    Thank you sir. I have a flat rubber roof that has some damage from a storm last fall, I used bicycle tire patches for temporary repairs & they held up all winter but it is time to fix it right, and now I don't have to hire someone else to do a good repair.

    Tommy you blew my mind brother , for decades Tommy & Norm have been my idols & until watching this video have never saw either man make a mistake , Tommy made 4 mistakes in this video .
    1st is not cutting out all the old " uncured" rubber before patching , it's not good to glue cured rubber over uncured rubber & can blister .
    2nd is square corners of the patch , all corners of any mil EPDM should be rounded , when rubber shrinks & tightens up square corners will pop up , and square corners can lift by snow & ice movement , or foot traffic .
    #3 Patch size , the patch should extend a full 12 inches on all sides of the repair , 6 inches will work but having the full 12 inches is industry standard .
    4 Seam tape vs seam caulk , all rubber to rubber seams not adhered using seam tape with 1/8th inch tape exposure must be caulked using seam caulk .

    • @richardcrawford2114
      @richardcrawford2114 5 років тому +1

      The oldschool EPDM roofers had less code and a different methods with the splice adhesive they used; its not like today's modern primer and pressure sensitive tape used in modern EPDM roof systems; if he was doing that roof repair back in the older days of EPDM it would be a standard I am sure.

    • @richardcrawford2114
      @richardcrawford2114 5 років тому +6

      12 Inches for a patch? Are you kidding me? Not an industry standard; the industry standard is definitely 6 inches; with some manufacturers even allowing the warranty to stand at 3 inches with pressure-sealed seams; I enjoy overkill myself - but that is by no means the standard for seams. UA-cam roofer over here I see.

    Good patch job. Should last until that roof needs replaced. Might have to re caulk it. There is a phew other ways to make a more permanent patch. But this is good for a small house quick patch.

    They have self-adhered membrane so no need for seam glue. If you must use standard EPDM then seam tape is better than seam glue.

    Great video but what is the name of that adhesive? You never told the name or the type of adhesive you're using. I need the name of that glue or type of adhesive. I can do a video of how to patch a roof too but if i dont tell you the names of the tools I use, it's pointless. (3:10) Ruber to ruber adhesive tells nothing about the product used.

    this is considered a temporary fix. not a permanent fix. it would leak soon as snow and ice came, prob sooner with a heavy rain. sorry tommy, i been a flat roofer,epdm installation warranty inspector for a long time. im not gonna get commercial installation technical . but a home owner should use seam tape, uncured epdm flashing. for your t-patches. also, cover any t-patch.seam tape as well.roll it in and lap seal.

  • @ifloreslopez

    this is not accurate. he should used seam tape and round the corners. i also noticed this guy used a brush to cleam the membranes. use a rag according to firestone,sarnafil,John mansville, and other manufacturers. and when applying quick prime your suppose to use primer pads that are made to penetrate the membranes not rollers or brushes. then use lap sealant

Primer applied with scrub pad . Round corners . T patches where seams cross especially where membrane goes over form flash .
