Its a airbrake drain switch. When you leave a vehicle with airbrakes sitting its best to release air so you can get moisture out. other busses have it to where you have to go to the tank and do it manually.
I like the way our buses are made here in NC. When you go to other states, some buses may be all yellow, or some with black stripes.. To me, that makes your fleet look horrible but here in nc, we look EXCELLENT
We used cell phones up until last year. This year we had new technology added, its called Synovia. Its the best thing we've invested our money in, as far as GPS. We can track buses, their speed, whether amber or red lights on, door open or closed. But if we want to get in touch with a driver we have to send a text message.
Yes i guess we are pretty lucky, we are a small county, we only have around 73 buses in our fleet. We usually receive around 4-6 new buses each year. We may receive C2's or CE's whatevers on contract that year, usually C2's. Our buses are normally replaced every 20 years or 200,000 miles whichever comes first.
@Ghaley78 I pretty sure you are referring to the indicator lights for the "red" and "amber" lights. Thats the only red and orange "buttons" i can think of. Basically they just light up when you activate the amber switch and when you open the door.
I think the Mercedes, is a much peppier engine that the cummins. It has great acceleration, smoothness, low end torque. Our C2's equipped with the Cummins, are very sluggish, they have good top end power, and they tend to go a little faster, once they get going.
@campgd i can understand why you would feel like that, i'm the same way, i tend to think our buses look the best, because that is all im used to. but im warming up to the different spec's. i'm beginning to like black rub rails a little more.
Yea i am very thankful for our air conditioned buses, every new bus now adays should have a/c. We just delivered some buses down to alabama and up to rhode island and neither of those buses had a/c, it sucked.
The State of North Carolina owns our school buses, they are purchased by the state. Counties may purchase their own activity buses, but not yellow school buses.

What is the cell phone looking thing beside the. Driver seat? Is it like u guys radio? I go to Davidson county schools at North Davidson and we have actual radios but i do y'all just use cell phones cause I didn't see a radio in ur vid.
The ones in Chapel Hill Carrboro NC just got radios this year. They used to use cell phones but they got a whole overhaul, new strobes, radios, and GPS systems.
Are you in florida or california? yes this will always be my favorite bus...i remember the first day getting to drive it...when it only had 99 miles on it...and one of the high schoolers dropped ice cream on the floor on a very hot day...talk about upset! lol...

@dapatrick111 Ha..yea..i normally tried to clean it atleast twice a year. I was a little lazy this year.
yea unfortunately North Carolina only spec's their buses this way...I actually prefer this since this is all we know have.
