2014 Thomas C2- Spec'd for NC 99 miles, LED lights, A/C, Air Seat, Air door, Air brakes, vandalock, tilt/telescope steering wheel, 45 mph 72 pass. child reminder.
That driver's station is so UN-schoolbus-like. Not a floor-shifter, but the shifter in the DASHBOARD! (First time I saw that was in a '72 Ford/Carpenter - owned by the Charles County BoE itself; the only busses I'd ever seen with dash-shifting were not only automatics, but transits and tour busses - even the Thomas EF and ER retained floor-shifters and manual transmissions, as did the Crown and Wayne flatnoses of the same decade. You didn't see automatics and dash-shifting in a school-bus normally.)
I drive for Martin County. My mechanic told me about the driver a/c. The strobe light looks weird because I am so used to seeing the small ones. The guardian angel light system is long overdue. This school year I have had too many drivers passing my stop sign. I asked for outside camera on my bus but I rather not state here what I was told. The C2s have come a long way since 07. I just wish they had the same engines.
Yeah i agree, miss the MBE900's....um our state commissioner is gunning for approval for every bus to be equipped with exterior cameras in the state of NC. Its gaining support. So i'd say in the next two years or so, we'd see them spec'd on our buses. Yeah i'd be curious to see what those strobes look like. Can you take a picture, of the bus? Several pics?
***** yikes thats pretty crazy, yes these investment into camera systems would be much welcomed. This is the first year we will run stop arm cameras on our new buses. Pretty excited to see how this plays out. Can't wait to do a tour of our '16 C2s.
My middle school and high school bus drivers had Saf T Liner C2s a few years ago. Im not sure if they still do today as I havent visited my schools as security has gotten stricter. But I know my middle school bus driver in 2013 had a 2010 C2 and my high school bus driver a 2008 C2 those same years. And they do look like nice buses. Except my middle school driver had a better driver seat then my high school driver as the 08 C2 had a shorter seat then the 10 C2.
No, i dont know very much, i do know that they are receiving driver a/c now, instead of just passenger a/c. The strobe light is probably just a spec change, it may be brighter, less costly, more effecient etc. I also read that we are getting the guardian angel light system. Where is shine lights on the students while they wait/cross at the bus stop. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, i'll try and find out more.
***** Actually South Carolina spec'd their buses after North Carolina, after they got the 23 million dollar investment to replace their old buses. Which was just in the last year or two. I think its very flattering and i like seeing that both states have similar buses. I'm sure the drivers there appreciate them that much more. Try and get some pics for me, id like to see them more in detail.
Do they have a park gear on the gear shifter on the C2? I remember my days in school they had to put the gear shifter in Neutral and set the parking brake.
+johnny vaught I'm glad to hear that. I know some box trucks on m2s have park but I suspected school buses still didn't have park. I once told my high school bus driver in 2012 that the 08 C2 he had was nicer than what he drove when I was in school and my high school years he had a 98 blue bird international and my senior year a 99 amtran Cs on an international.
+johnny vaught that's how Baltimore County is these days. They had more variety back in the day when chassis' were optional. The body wad different but the chassis was the same. Mainly Chevrolet and gmc in the 80's and international in the 90's. But now days it's Thomas and IC

literally every bus in the 2000s has a dash shifter. Some even have buttons

I used to ride bus 33 in elementary school anson county same number same everything.
How come there wasn't a crossing arm switch? Is it automatic?

+06badboi DeKalb County GA just got another load of these. Looks like these newer C2's and the Bluebird Visions are completely taking over my county.

no sadly they still put it in neutral and set the parking brake still no park on gear selector

i know im late but at engine shutoff then it rings and the shut off in back.
The seats are double over the shoulder straps, kind of like a car seat. These are strictly for smaller children say, kindergarten aged.
On my school buses they have a white flagy thing on the back they have to put down we the bus is turn off do you know what that is for
