6:00 could've sworn that looked like a fungus, though that name (-mycetes) indicates that it was at some point thought to be a fungi, which is fairly common, slime moulds and water moulds were also thought to be fungi before being found to be entirely separate eukaryotic organisms (so protists).
It is cool to see James be surprised by something new. Especially since he is able to show it in such a gorgeous video and share it with us. Thank you James, thank you Journey to the Microcosmos team
7:58 so i expected the amoeba to engulf that little bit of something. but its pseudopod got close and then turned away. it “knows “ what it can eat and what it can’t (biochemistry), which is totally amazing to me. it’s a teeny little living thing which “made a decision”!! and the tardigrave has teeny tiny claws - an evolved, complete living organism. sometimes i am just awed by evolution and the flora and fauna which came from these tiny microbes. thanks much 🌷🦋🌱
I would only have a tardigrade as my spirit animal if it could be the giant tardigrade from Star Trek Discovery that travels in the inter-dimensional mycelial network throughout the galaxy. Just kidding. Dolly Parton is my spirit animal. 💄💅🏻👠😁
I wonder if Labyrinthulea looks different when it's not on a slide. It looks rather 2D , but the structure makes me wonder if it's more of an "inflated ball" form when floating freely
I love and will miss you all... this channel is so amazing. I wish I was able to help because of how enjoyable and scientifically and academically important your content really is..
I wish this channel would stay around. Been watching from the start. BTW, why does your thumbnails change several times? I think at least twice, and the last video even had 2 titles.
If a certain title doesn't seem to be catching people's attention channels will change it up. Title and thumbnail makes a big difference, I see lots of channels switch it after upload.
I watched a tardigrade evolve into a Super Spallanzani and fire a Special Pasta Canon at it's enemy, the Perfect Stentor. So that was either a real thing... or I need to stop eating mystery stuff from the back of my fridge....
I love the channel of course but the channel staying up as it has been is completely up too James, Hank, Deboki and the rest of the crew. They are the artists, JTTMC is the painting. If they stop its done. If they add more stroke here and there irregularly that's up to them! ❤
Cyanobacteria be like: I've been everywhere I've been to Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo Tocapillo, Baranquilla, and Perdilla, I'm a killer I've been everywhere, man
Great video! You guys did miss a great chance to connect this concept to aquariums, ponds and other artificial aquatic habitats. In spending several years starting and maintaining them, I also had a microscope and would very regularly pull mulm from the substrates as well as the filter media and take note of differing abundances of the microorganisms over time. It changes over time for sure but in a stable environment, it reaches an equilibrium.
Oh it's clear what's going on with the tardigrade. Same thing that was going on with orca wearing a dead salmon as a hat. He just being goofy. "Hey y'all...like my beard? Just got done trimming it. It's nice...no?"
Curious about the number of claws on the tardigrades! Maybe it will be answered in this video? Ah! Ask and ye shall receive! 4 minute mark talks about the claws.
the organism bring into life a pattern unseen made seen. there is a living structure boundary creating defining within the empty space between us if it isn't the empty space itself, an invisible dimension where structure comes from were all our walls come from.
Is it possible to make a microscope slide that is not smooth, so animals can grip it, yet which is still transparent not won't distort the image? Would it be possible to make a texture so small that a tardigrade could walk on it, yet still be transparent?
I told ChatGPT that you were shutting down and I needed a poem to persuade you to stay. Here's what she said: In the realm of the unseen, where worlds collide, Microcosmos reveals nature's hidden tide. Through lenses sharp, we glimpse the tiny dance, Microbes are my cosmic romance. Oh Microcosmos, a beacon of light, Your videos bring marvels, a pure delight. With each frame captured, a story unfolds, Of microscopic realms, untamed and bold. So the tourists James had only just met, also went through the procedures and applied to export biological organisms, im finding that hard to believe, its not just making a declaration at the airport, and potentially very serious, what's also worrying is you don't ,mention anything about it!!!
1:56. Cyanobacteria “Here”...i am 1000% ignorant of these wee beasties- could you please highlight your subject(s) of your discussion so I, and others like me, can know what we are looking at while you tell these interesting things about a, b,c, etc
honestly one of the best channels on UA-cam
Too bad its finishing its last few episodes 😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@SA-pi3zmwhys that?
I love this channel.
@hondrta
not enough views pretty much...
Was not is. The show is over once they air the last recorded episodes there won't be more.
I see Portugal, I click! Miss my home sooooo much! ❤❤❤
Aw, I too miss my home sometimes.
❤
Love your videos, which have inspired me to pursue my career in science! Much love from Portugal, as a fellow portuguese biologist!
are you on inaturalist? i think ive seen your finds there here in portugal! excited to see what you’ll be up to in your career ❤❤❤
i'm gonna miss microcosmos so much!!!!
I actually worked with the scientist that discovered and named the 'bothrosome' !!
why'd they call it that?
@@BillCozQuite bothersome
Based
WOWWW!!!
I'd love to hear moree!!

oooo
That's interesting
I'll miss these weekly updates very much. I'm grateful you're not taking down the old ones!
Me too!!
Ditto
It is cool to see James be surprised by something new. Especially since he is able to show it in such a gorgeous video and share it with us. Thank you James, thank you Journey to the Microcosmos team
That water bear with its claws up close and crystal clear was absolutely incredible
I'm a simple man.
I see Portugal, I like the video 👍
The structure of that Labyrinthulid reminds me of brain cells. It also kind of looks vaguely like a slime mold. Very cool.
The tardigrade kicking feet looks like a stretching puppy or something lol :)
Like Napa from the Airbender
Seriously 😢 you put dope shit like this out after saying you're done soon!?

Tardigrades are my spirit animal! Strong beyond belief and cute as a button! 🤭

i love that thought!
I wish you would never stop making this type of content! You guys are awesome!
Just magical! Thank youse 👏👏👏
The title sounds like something the main character of a horror game would receive from a friend before said friend goes missing.
THE best channel on UA-cam!
Thank you!!!
Just wow ! thank you !

great video, thank you
I wish this channel would stay around. Been watching from the start.

Harvesting views by tricking people into watching it twice. Scummy behavior we dislike.
If a certain title doesn't seem to be catching people's attention channels will change it up. Title and thumbnail makes a big difference, I see lots of channels switch it after upload.
Awesome video guys! It made me a better person. I'll watch it later.
I watched a tardigrade evolve into a Super Spallanzani and fire a Special Pasta Canon at it's enemy, the Perfect Stentor.
So that was either a real thing... or I need to stop eating mystery stuff from the back of my fridge....
Never stop eating mystery stuff
Don't close the channel
All things must pass. Sometimes it's best to let something end while it's still good before it decays on its own
@Superbouncybubble Make no sense dude, the channel is good and that's about it
I love the channel of course but the channel staying up as it has been is completely up too James, Hank, Deboki and the rest of the crew. They are the artists, JTTMC is the painting. If they stop its done. If they add more stroke here and there irregularly that's up to them!

Enjoy this channel so much🦠🔬💚
I still can't believe you are going....
Plenty of microrganisms living in this tiny awkward corner! Kudos from Portugal.
portugal!
You're so Portuguese ❤️
Portugal crlh!
Slime...is glorious
0:45 that thing is hilarious, you should have followed it.
Thank you ❤️

Sad to see you go, hopefully you can keep the channel up if not posting and you may reach 900K subscribers before you finally post your last video!
That title is how world-ending plagues start

What are their claws made of?
So mesmerizing as always
tardigrades eating bacteria out of their own beards feels at once disgusting and hilarious.
also,
Now I'm having an existential crisis about the tardigrades survival 😢
You guys should do something with Couch Microscopy. Heard her on the CPBBD podcast and I learned all kinds of things.
Hello from Portugal 🇵🇹

Oh it's clear what's going on with the tardigrade. Same thing that was going on with orca wearing a dead salmon as a hat. He just being goofy. "Hey y'all...like my beard? Just got done trimming it. It's nice...no?"
I really don't know why anyone searches for life in outer space when we've got our hands full right here.....
Why research only one when we can learn about all?
Looking at beach pics on Instagram.
Is really interesting with the biofilm on the rocks.
Nice 😆
Do you ever mix a tiny bit of two samples to see how the organism compete in a new ecosystem?
Incredible!❤
Incredible!
i thought of a good idea for this channel today. Discover if there is any merit to the "5 second rule"
I love tardagrades.i share an infinity with them.😊 Looks like a snot amoeba.
I loved it
Please make the full soundtrack available for purchase towards the end of this channels life.
What happens to the microcosmoses/samples when you are done watching them?
1:08 oh, yes, I se-WTF IS THAT!?
Curious about the number of claws on the tardigrades! Maybe it will be answered in this video?
Ah! Ask and ye shall receive! 4 minute mark talks about the claws.
I kind of miss Hank narrating these videos as it made me really relaxed, but the woman narrating now is doing a great job
Why do tardigrades NEED all those claws?
Fantastic chanel!❤

like screen printing there is the invisible stencel and there is the paint and there is the shirt. and thats life

What is this microscope name? I want to buy it. And how you get such good colors??
I believe it is a several thousand dollar DIC microscope. That is the reason for the colors as well.
The Microbes in Tardigrades provides a type of antifreeze?
"we found something strange in Portugal"
yeah, there's about 60 million of them
Cyano bacteria form the first multi celled organisms by living in clusters to hold moisture?
I sure hope Study Hall has hard science topics and not just "humanities" as they see fit.
Reminds me of slime molds
wish i could choose different narration styles on youtube
1:35 at the middle bottom
Is it pooping?
5:02 Corpus Luteum
The weird labyrinth kinda looks like a neuron

Nice poem, good work chatGPT
.....and whats the yellow thing ?
Is there a channel like this one but focused on drugs, diseases, or syndromes?
Like is it me? or do the bacteria overseas seem more vibrant and healthier than American bacteria...
Gotta be honest, if pure evolutionary success is the measure of the best organism, cyanobacteria have humans beat a hundred thousand times over.
Cool story bro.
science plus asmr
what 's up with the ameba ? Please make ' it like, does not attract more tourists to my country .... Please .
Huh, I thought the answer was going to be "the Portuguese".
Heirs hello there beautiful voice
That cancer sure changed Hanks voice! jk, we'll miss you buddy.
So the tourists James had only just met, also went through the procedures and applied to export biological organisms, im finding that hard to believe, its not just making a declaration at the airport, and potentially very serious, what's also worrying is you don't ,mention anything about it!!!
At first I thought it was some kind of conspiracy video but then I saw the channel name... almost blocked my second favorite channel 😅
Virtual Machines.
The Man?
👏❤
Don't worry, they're called Portuguese
The voice is different.
A water bear
Kaaaaaw
Awe kids, yes the world is always changing. No law will keep it from doing so.
