In todays video I'm comparing the brand new Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G lens with my two main primes lenses - 24GM and 50GM. The 24-50mm has the perfect size for any travel and everyday needs, but how does it compare to the bigger primes? Check it out!

Feel this zoom should be compared to the Sony 24 f2.8G, 40mm f2.5G and 50mm f2.5G, all G, all compact and much closer in price in comparing them. The 50mm f1.2 is on a completely other level.
Reshoot with the same aperture, than you actually will show the (non)existing difference 😊
It‘s the aperture and not the prime - you can easily use the fe40 prime (f2,5) to compare 😁
Can't wait to see when 24-70 f2 comes
If it ever comes... it's gonna be wrist breaker :P
Already sold my 24-70 GMII & doing wrist work at the gym in preparation! 😅
It will be big, heavy, and expensive. But, I might buy it.
Hey Magic!! Every time you switch to that 50 1.2 I can hear the excitement in your voice. LOL. That and the 24 1.4 are probably my 2 most favorite lenses EVER in whole entire world. You’ll have to pry them off my cold dead hands before I trade it in for the zoom... ;D
Haha you know I'm sucker for that 50/1.2 :P
Do you prefer LuminarNeo to Lightroom?
I love it for single portraits when I want to have different look. But for weddings I’m all Lightroom!
If they made a 24-50 f/2 for, idk $1600-1800, I'd trade in my 50mm GM f/1.4, because this would have covered. Maybe would get a 85mm for portraits and that's it. Now, with a just a 50mm gm f/1.4, I have no idea what to get as a second lens. I'd like something wider for indoor parties and home gatherings with friends, can't really decide between 24, 28, or 35. I really would love the 24-70 gm version II, but that thing is $2400. I'd probably only get it if I traded in my beloved 50mm. Maybe that's a good idea, and possibly get a slightly 85 or 105 in the future for that delicious bokeh.
24-50/2 would be beautiful but probably huge. My guess is we're gonna get something like this one day. But for now the focus of Sony seems to be compact lenses.
If this was a 20-50 2.8 at the same size, I’d still just pair it with my 85 1.4 and call it a day.
You can get 28-45/1.8 Bigma
if the point was to compare the. zoom at 24 and 50 with primes, why are you not using the the same aperture.
how can you make. a. valid comparison between the lenses if you are using different f-stops? Disappointing review
Full agree!
Not related to this specific video, but I was just watching your review for the Sony a7RV and I noticed your wedding photos and I wanted to ask about the flash. I recently photographed my 1st wedding using my new a7RV but I did not use a flash (big mistake) and I was looking around but not a lot of UA-cam photographers have the a7RV for wedding photography while using a flash. I’ve looked online and found that people have problems with Sony Alpha cameras and a functional flash, so being that you yourself also use an a7RV and you have two flashes listed on your description, what are your recommendations/ reviews about the flash you use on your a7RV? Or do you have existing videos related to this topic that you could point me in the direction to? Thank you
Yup! no flash problems with me. Check this video on what I use: ua-cam.com/video/GgtaE27Es1A/v-deo.htmlsi=sqFanGNI0yRrLaar
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer thank you very much 🙏
Hey Magic! Why the focus area jumps between different modes
Cause when you use spot tracking and lock on subject it does "switch" to wide tracking to track the subject across entire frame
I have 35mm, 50mm, 85mm covered in prime lenses.. so for my needs as a wide zoom lens I would like the upcoming 16-25mm G lens which I hope releases this year..haha
I feel like 16-25 would be also more interesting to me!
Nothing wrong with the lens. The problem is first-party price, third-party performance.
In what terms do you mean 3rd party performance? Performance wise is as good as any GM lenses - gonna outshoot most 3rd party solutions with Sony cameras - focus breathing compensation, shooting top hi speed burst, sharpness, fast AF.
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer For the price, you'd expect more focal range, smaller size, and less focus breathing.
@@frankfeng2701you’re looking for the 24-70 GMii. That’s why this is a G and not a GM, limited range making it nice and tiny.
Love the review. But I am wondering how it looks like when you shoot with all the lenses with the same aperture. I already have the 24 and the 50 mm and was thinking about buying this one because it is so versatile. For weddings I use 24 and 16-35(mostly with ceremony and party) always in combination with the 85mm.
Why even bring this out when tamron makes a more attractive 20-40 2.8?
They should concentrate on areas where we need upgrades and evolvement. Like a 24-105 2.8 or 24-70 2.0 zoom.
Magic, can you do a video on how to shoot portraits in harsh, midday sun? How to avoid shadows under the eyes and things like that?
It's been on my list for a while! Will make it happen one day!
Magic i have watched a lot of your videos and i would like to know if the difference between A7IV and A7RV is huge? I am still not satified with the skin tone on A7IV
I have to admit, the f2.8 50mm showing more context of the background, was actually more pleasing than the f1.2.
That’s perfect for you then! You can get away with 1 lens! What is your go to?
I'm putting together a travel kit. Right now it consists of the A7CR and A7CII, a 16-35 PZ, and a 70-200 f4 G II. I'm trying to decide whether to add the 24-50 G or the 50 1.4 GM. I love primes, but, unless you're in the studio, zooms are much more practical.
with what you currently have 16-35 and 70-200 I think 50/1.4GM will serve you better. It will give you more variety, great portrait lens, or when you need low light and you can use that 1.4
It’s clear prime over zooooom
This could be cool travel lens ❤
So you're comparing 2 prime G Masters vs a zoom G? Lol ok
Yes sir
… why not? 🤷🏼♂️
24-50mm? Dumbest lens ever.
