I am happy to see you comparing against the smaller G primes. I just got home from a trip with just the 24G &50G and found that I don't change lenses quite as often as I would as I was in the desert with high winds and a lot of dust. I used the 50G for more than 90% of my shots but would have liked to have had a little more flexibility. I think the zoom might be a really good everyday lens for me and great for non-photography focused trips where I want my kit at a minimum.
Great comparison! I've been using the 24G for about a month now on the A7Cii and I find myself going into APS-C mode A LOT which means I'm probably better off with the zoom. I have to be "in the mood" to shoot primes. For everyday stuff, zooms are so much more practical.
I now have both the 24-50/2.8 G and still have the small prime set of 24mm, 40mm, and 50mm G. Key is small size for the compact C bodies but the 24-50/2.8 G I think is successful here. Don’t know if I will consider selling these primes since they were bought for the C bodies. For full size full frame Sony bodies like my A7RV and A1 I’m using both larger GM|GMII primes and zooms which I’m very, very happy with. Thank you for this and your other videos. Take care.
I had Sony 20-70mm f4 for three months. It was a great do-it-all lens. Traded it for FE PZ 16-35mm f4. This lens is much better in focal length for me and it is much sharper than 20-70mm. 😊. Now considering this 24-50mm.. but i am not willing to let go 16-35mm as it is really versatile.
As always, you seem to answer the questions I ask myself. I have the 24G, 40G and 50G and was wondering how this new 24-50 zoom compared? I like zooms too but picked up the compact primes for days I want to go light. You make excellent points about using primes and zooming with your feet vs using zooms, Best part of the video.
Do you see enough difference between the 40g and 50g? I own the 50 and am debating on the other two but I feel they 2.5s may be too close. Wish they made a 35 G and a 16/20 G like this.
@@Image1Nation I do a difference between them. I personally prefer the 50mm G. But I have seen reviews says they’re close. Agree a 35mm would have been preferred but I do like the 40mm focal length. Also agree Sony needs to bring a few more lenses to this line-up. A 16mm and 135mm compact G would be instant buys for me.
I like your explanation about intuitive with prime lens. I started my photography with zoom and i felt my skill stuck until 2-3 years. I tried to move to primes and that's where my skill and passion rise up. In my country, second hand trio g primes with good condition is cheaper than new 24-50. Tough choice.
Thank you the video. Have the company G primes from Sony and a few Sigma I-series f/2 primes and have considered getting Sony’s 24-50/2.8 G and 16-25/2.8 G zooms. Also own GM/G at 14, 24, 35, and 50 but keeping size down for my A7CR kit is key. So do I swap small size for flexibility of the zoom? What would you personally do? I like shooting at 24, 28, 35, 40 & 50mm but won’t carry that many primes. Take care.
If the 50/2.5 is actually 50mm then the 24-50 is in reality 24-48mm lens, because there is a visible difference in field of view on that long distance comparison.
Really great comparison and the only channel to actually do this IMO. Great job!
Thank you, this was exactly the video I needed. I recently got the 50 2.5 G for an amazing trade in.

embrace the close working distance and big nose effect 😁

My preference as a traveler is light weight zooms, like 16-35 F4. Very interesting video.
My love 20-70 the most versatile)
great lens that I have a hard time staying committed to it. Should be the "It" lens, darn near perfect with everything but the range

@@SilatShooter you my friend just saved me 800CAD. I can’t see how they can make a compact 135 unless it’s f4. A compact 85 f2/2.5 would be sweet.
look forward to the rumored to be soon announced sigma 24-70 f2.8 mark II.
Interesting, i don’t keep up with rumors, hope sigma keeps me in the loop as we’re not on the greatest terms 😂

Is it just me or does the 24mm 2.8 seem wider than the 24-50 at 24mm?
maybe a little, that lens has wild distortion. The GM is a lot wider at that distance!

thats almost a 28mm on 24-50, i wish that is 20mm like the tamron 20-40
Do you own the FE 2.5 /40G lens?
sorry i do not. do have the sigma 45 😄
24-50 should be an f1.8 or f2 lens not 2.8.
To me I don't see the essence of this lens.
Sony G 20-70mm F4 is more versatile . It is my First choice 👍🙏🏾
F4 🤡
We can choose our gender 😂😂
