    I have finally found this video after all these years. I watched this video back in second or third grade and for some reason I found the song and cuts of the F-22 to be the coolest thing I had ever seen. It is one of the reasons that I am so into aviation. I am currently studying aerospace engineering. running across this was super nostalgic.

      Also his video introduced me to this song
      Another classic video to me is the A-10 Thunderbolt II video with Sonne by Rammstein which made that song my theme song for the A-10

      3D TVC on the F-22? Nope. Not needed plus the exhaust are made to reduce heat. Adding 3D TVC would require the entire TVC nozzles to be re-done and might not have the same results in terms of stealth.

    Fighting Raptors when they are 'full-up' is a mind-numbing experience. The F-35 has all aspect stealth, there's really no way to deny this. All major surfaces except the vertical stabilizers follow planform allignment, and the entire aircraft uses RAM coatings and underlying radar absorbant/control structure. As far as agility, it is easily a level above current fighters like the F-16. It doesn't suffer from excess drag, carries a large amount of fuel for long endurance and the engine provides better acceleration and turning performance.

  • @KARASAWA40

    Speed is extremely important, it has a huge effect on missile range, and modern fire and forget missiles still need 30+ seconds of guidance before you can actually forget them (though data linking makes this less of an issue).

  • @Marine5484

    For those who say the F-22 sucks consider this. One F-22 with a less experienced pilot went head to head against eight F-15's with pilots with multiple combat tours in a simulated air engagement.....the raptor "killed" all eight. And the F-15 has the best air to air record in history with over 100 kills and 0 losses.

  • @KARASAWA40
    @KARASAWA40 14 років тому

    The F-22 also has clean aerodynamics. Weight means nothings if you have thrust and lift. Going by public data, the F-22 would only ever notice the Typhoon, that one is pretty good at climbing, though it probably falls behind at higher speeds. Everything else would essentially still be on the ground by the time it was at 30,000 feet.

    @barbaguillux (IR, visual with a TV mode) IRST's only detect an oncoming, supercruising aircraft from 30km.
    The formation I described is actually done with the new upgraded F-15C's. The F-15's sit at the back of the formation and act as a min, forward AWACS for the F-22's. The new AESA radars and long loiter time of the F-15's makes them a good choice for the task (as well as the ability to escape when something fires their direction from max range).

  • @KARASAWA40
    @KARASAWA40 14 років тому

    If there was nothing but peace between the F-22's introduction and its retirement, and the plane never even fires a missiles, that could point to it being a very good investment.

    @FXWorldBeater 13 років тому

    @AmFearLiathMor also in the video, the F-22 is down at 19k ft. Not something they do in battle, just when they're told to go for guns kills.
    T-38's are bound to get the odd close range kill, but as an F-16 pilot quoted...

  • @KARASAWA40
    @KARASAWA40 13 років тому

    Again, the F-22 was never cancelled, never lost to the Tornado, and laughs at T-38's. You could at least try.

  • @FXWorldBeater
    @FXWorldBeater 13 років тому

    @barbaguillux Of course its not invulnerable to detection ... its just that its detection range is a lot smaller. Its a pretty simple formula (using example values only)
    Enemy detection range of F-22 30miles
    F-22 detection range of enemy 200miles
    F-22 missile range 120miles
    So for 120miles all the way down to 30miles, the F-22 can fire without the enemy being able to get a firing solution on it.
    I read recently that the F-22 only engages in WVR combat in 3% of all engagements.

    @lIIustration Most problems were with corrosion in some of the metals and the paint but that was with the prototypes in the 90's, every raptor today was built from 2005 to today free of these problems but yea there was 2 jets that had oxygen problems, every F-22 was grounded till they were sure that no other had that problem and if they did they were to get fixed.

  • @andygoth
    @andygoth 13 років тому

    @lcawood Problem is the Raptor was too expensive, way over budget and couldn't be sold abroad, hence the Raptor project was cancelled.. It also didn't meet expectations because it's 'stealth' was already behind modern radar systems.. The F35 program has taken over from the F22 becase it's more realistic, has carrier options, it's cheaper and includes foriegn sales.

    @halorecon32 So the Jammer has potentally unlimited power. You can't put enough shielding. But the Jammer effects both sides. The F-15, and F-16's can fly without help from a computer. Plus the conventional fighters are cheaper, and they can still get the job done. Also, the B-2 has the same problem as the F-22.

  • @halorecon32
    @halorecon32 13 років тому

    @HackCausality I know. But a avionics package is a electronic systems for use on aircraft, artificial satellites and spacecraft, comprising communications, navigation and the display and management of multiple systems. So if you jam the signals going to it, it won't help fly the plane. The F-22 and some other jets are unstable and alot of adjustments are required in flight.
    @em745 The F-16 can fly without help for a avionics package.

  • @FXWorldBeater
    @FXWorldBeater 13 років тому

    @mpogias13 "And an F-22 cannot launch missiles from that far ,it has to find them first"
    Nope, it can launch glide bombs from 130km, and it doesn't need to find them at all. A pair of F-22 can triangulate the general location of the S-400's radar at >400km (in fact almost double the max range of the radar). It can then approach, and launch from max range of its missiles/bombs and the glide bomb just locks onto the radar's signal ... once it gets closer, it uses it own radar + IR seeker

  • @FXWorldBeater
    @FXWorldBeater 13 років тому

    @barbaguillux "But it's valid for what RCS? 3m² ? 5m²?" Even without using its radar, the F-22 can start detecting enemy aircraft at around double the maximum range of the enemy's radar and comms systems (400km+). No other aircraft has an RWR thats even close to the alr-94.
    With 30 receivers installed within the aircraft's skin, it basically one big multi-frequency emissions receiver. A pair of F-22's can triangulate and track an enemy from very long range.

  • @KARASAWA40
    @KARASAWA40 14 років тому

    Yes, the F-22 does have an edge in air to air combat (biggest difference between the two is supercruise), but the performance gap might not be as big as people think. The F-35 is pretty agile, and its avionics are arguably, the best there is.

    Raptor program has been cancelled, but we have almost 180 Raptors being outfitted for military service. The JSF is soon to follow up the Raptor, and almost definitely be mass produced. Plus, the technology of the F-35 JSF with surpass any bird in this planet's sky, making the Raptor quite the expendable aircraft. But for now, those 180 Raptors are enough to run this world back and forth, no problem.

The F-22 was designed to beat the Su-27 and the F-22 indeed has amazing mounverebility. though its not clear if it can outperform an Su-37 in a dogfight. Depends on the pilot and situation

  • @JVC7400

    @coldfarted yes, 2:16 against F-15 with no losses, then only reason it cant do more is because of the internal carriage. The real Simulation kill ratio is 0:+200.
    Also, if it can do 2:16 against the F-15 force of 750 aircraft, then 187 F-22's is more than enough.
    And all the Mechnanics working on the F-15's could be working on F-22's giving F-22's 4x faster overhauls than it normaly would with a single mechanics-crew.

  • @KARASAWA40

    The reason is a one engine air liner would need to be on stilts to taxi around. There's a reason 3 and 4 engines went out of style on air liners too. Engines are reliable.
    The F-35 should have no issues on long missions.

  • @EnglishTurbines

    @AnotherYankee Right now, the RN have just 3 F35Bs for evaluation purposes. There is a long way to go until its fit for service and Carrier use. For air defense we have Eurofighter, not the F35B as its not a Fighter. The F35B has electronic counters to supposedly protect it from proper Fighters. But that remains to be seen.

    @akkahup "But stealth planes can't stand many G-Forces"
    The F-35 recently finished its stress testing in record time without any failures at all. During testing, its airframe was subjected to 14G's and it didn't even look like breaking it.
    Considering human pilots can only handle 9G's, this is a non-issue.
    "they can be detected"
    Sure, as they get close enough to the radar. But they can get a LOT closer than any non-stealth aircraft before they get spotted.

    It is by far the best fighter out there. It does things that were not possible before. Thrust vectoring allows this plane to defy the laws of physics ( not really ). If you go to an air show you would be amazed at what this plane is capable of doing. It will never become a real game changer because, due to the outragous cost, there will never be a lot of them built. UAV's are the wave of the future.

    Sure it has. Your talking about stealth. It is very stealthy. No problem there. It can engage multiple vectors withing seconds of each other. Again excellent. But without the ability to base them off carriers they are useful only to the Airforce. That is a big disadvantage. Also they need a full sized airport to operate. And even though then have the cross section of a metal marble the next generation SAMs are being designed to engage and track even a target that size.

    Thats true. The only reason the F35 has a single engine is for the lift fan. I reckon it would have better performance if it had two engines. Plus for battle damage. If one engine were to fail you use the other to get home. But then it isnt really designed as a fighter. More like a miniture stealth bomber.

  • @KARASAWA40
    @KARASAWA40 14 років тому

    Pretty much every fighter around today can accelerate straight up for a few thousand feet, but after around maybe 10-15 thousand feet, the air becomes too thin for the engine to make enough thrust to overcome the plane's weight and drag. How much fuel and weapons are onboard can make a big difference.
    However, a straight vertical climb is never the fastest way to climb to a high altitude.

  • @KARASAWA40
    @KARASAWA40 14 років тому

    Double size? No. F-16 weighs around 2/3 the F-35's weight, but the planes have similar lift area and use wing/body bending with relaxed stability. However the F-35 has a better engine and no stores drag if we include weapons. It doesn't matter how you configure the planes, the F-16 can't really pull ahead.

  • @KARASAWA40
    @KARASAWA40 14 років тому

    "Just a thought does anyone agree with that?"
    A good effort, but that's not how thrust works. It's not constant. The SR-71 might seem a bit weak for a Mach 3 plane going by the base engine numbers, but that's fine because at Mach 3 it's engines are probably making a lot more power (the drag at the altitude where the SR-71 flies is also lower).
    The F-22 has no chance at reaching SR-71 speed, the engines probably won't support it, and the airframe certainly wouldn't survive.

    @youssef0eddoumali the f-35 is basically the same thing as the f-22 other than the fact that the f-35 can make vertical t/o and landings but its not as fast as the f-22 there both stealth supersonic fighters that have air superiority thanks to the U.S. military and there training, so just to sum it up the f-35 is basically a newer version of the f-22 so it depends on what job you need to be done.

    If you believe that stealth alone will help the F-22 you also fail to understand the rather significant difference between a land based early warning radar and radar mounted in an aircraft. Operating over the airspace of a major military power they would still be dependent on jamming support and strike craft to destroy SAM sites. It would provide excellent air support for those missions...if there is an airport close enough for them to be deployed.

    Yes the ability to drop SDB's is a great addition to the world's best fighter. Now it can attack more targets with precision weapons than any Sukhoi (flankers can only carry 6 glonass guided weapons). F-22 will carry 8 internally.
    "Add synthetic aperture radar" and the best air to air fighter is now the best strike fighter as well.
    "Add electronic attack capabilities" in addition to the EW capabillities it already had.

    Upgrades go from improved Fly by wire, targetting helmets, NEW core processor (from block 25 i guess), support for aim9x, aim120d...
    Block 30 will cut the operativity cost (per hour)from 49.3K dollars to below the 40K falling even way further with block 40.
    I guess the fact the pilots right now still have to learn how to operate the damned thing ofc its enough to say the "craptor" is a limited machine...sure.

    The more i learn about stealth planes the more i believe that they are paper tigers.
    1.high maintenance: The F-22 Raptor needs 30 hours of maintenance for every 1 hour of flying.
    2.limited loadout: The F-22 Raptor in order to remain stealthy could only carry 6 missile's or bombs and with the F-35 it goes down to 4.
    How can a plane be a effective warmachine when after every mission it going to take a better part of a day to turn it around and that only to drop 2 bombs somewhere ?

    F-15SE is only stealthy on frontal aspect thanks to internal carriage, Canted V Tails, and radar absorbent materials.

    This will probably make you think, but if the F-22's engines are estimated in the 35000 pound class it means they are probably more like 40000+. And if the SR-71 had engines with I think like 35700 something, then the F-22 can haul some serious ass! I know the SR-71 aerodynamics helped it reach 2200 mph but the F-22 has supercruise because of its advanced aerodynamics too. Just a thought does anyone agree with that?

    @barbaguillux in exercises with F-22's + F-15's vs large numbers of F-15's ... the team with the F-22's still dominated.

    Oblivious I would like to see F-22 use 3D Thrust Vectoring Controls someday. F-22 nozzle look cooler than other nation fighter aircraft still using same old nozzle.

    @Marine5484 True I can understand that to a degree, I guess like people had beef with the Osprey, but the raptor is absolute air superiority so it looks like the pros outweigh the cons, but I did not know the F-22 had some problems, thanks for explaining. I was baffled as to how anybody could say it sucks. Judging by your name, if you are a Marine, just would like to say thank you for your service too. Thanks for the reply.

    The YF-22 and YF-23 were just being tested when I left the Air Force. The reason for no pictures of the cockpit is the fact it is part of the stealth technology and it gives away the material it's made of.

    In spite all the marketing really don't see any reason why would this aircraft be invisible to radar. I think the design goal was to make an aircraft with a smaller radar cross section frontally so that it gets detected only at closer ranges and that the aircraft is almost invisible to radar from certain angles - so that a radar guided missile loses the lock for a split of a second while F-22 is dodging - and when the speed is mach 3-4+ that's more than enough to prevent a hit.

    @JD12ish yeah, stalling not so impressive. I like the high G high AOA turns at high speed. Good thing the F-22 is the best in the world (by far) at that.
    Worst thing is the plethora of vids of POS flankers doing flips when the flight manual for the flanker says it needs to be under 200km/h to do those. When flying at combat speeds, the flanker's a brick.
