Took me longer to comment than I thought it would lol.
And now you have the perfect opportunity to talk about both of the mainline games in just a few months, HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAUHUHUHAUHAUHAUHAU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UPDATE: I've learned from helping to produce my recent collab on Haedox's channel that Klonoa Door to Phantomile was considered the best selling game in the series. Apparently it's financial record in Japan is what spawned interest in making sequels. Lunatea's Veil, meanwhile, did not do nearly as well as Namco hoped, so after the first batch of sequels they ended up cancelling the series altogether. When I said Lunatea's Veil did better, I was basing that info off of VGChartz, a website that offers "estimates" of sales records that may not always be accurate. Namco never released sales figures for these games, so it was the best I could get. I apologize for misleading you on this point and I hope you can enjoy the video regardless.
VGChartz is actually pretty inaccurate. According to them, Size Matters is the best-selling Ratchet & Clank game (which would not be true even in the Bizarro dimension), and members of Insomniac have said directly to fans using this information to NOT USE VGChartz as a source because they're that wildly off about game sales.
Man I really wish Klonoa 2 would come to the PS2 line-up of games on the PS4. Also if Bandai Namco wanted a new Klonoa game to REALLY sell, they should've done it for the Nintendo Switch's launch, since there really wasn't much for it.
This game brings back memories of when I had my PS2. I really like the presentation, music of this game. EVERYTHING! I remember it was said that if the Wii remake was a success in sales, a remake of this game would be. *What could have been.*
Hey, folks. I say this at the end of the video, but I've cancelled the Star Fox Zero, at least for now. I got everything out in the Unversed Cast episode and in my Let's Play, so I want to move on to new projects. If you're getting sick of Klonoa, there will only be three more videos after this one, and I plan on releasing them on a consistent basis. Also, don't forget to watch the *whole* video before commenting. If I get a comment saying "great video, Exo!" within the first five minutes of release, then I know you didn't watch the whole thing, fam. Anyways, enjoy!
just want to say thanks because I've never hear of Klonoa before these videos so after watching them I got the first one on psn cause damn the real disk is expensive, its fun i love it :D
I got Empire Of Dreams & Dream Champ Tournament on my Wii U (I play them in widescreen because I think it looks better & shows how well the graphics have aged) so I could finally beat Empire of Dreams & play Dream Champ Tournament. I'm near the end of Empire of Dreams & I hope to beat it before you're review for it comes out. Same thing with Dream Champ Tournament. Nevermind.
I just recently uncovered this gem at our local retro gaming store. I had been ignoring it due to its price but I finally caved in and bought it just the other day. Let's just say I don't regret my choice...xD
I played this with my sister when I was not even in grade school. I kept playing it over a span of 2 years and I almost 100%'d the game, getting 150 gems in almost all of the levels. I stopped playing because I started investing more time into PC-gaming, but this is one of my favourite games of all time. In fact, the soundtrack was so memorable that I memorized all of the tunes over the span of 14 years until I was reminded of its brilliance through the magic of UA-cam. I am glad to hear the game get recognition for its beautiful art, fun simple gameplay, colourful music, and emotional story. Thank you for making this video.
Why not just use eBay? (Unless you snagged it for real cheap from this Netherlands Website? 🤷) glad I grabbed it when it cost $50 for a Near Mint Australian Copy around 10 years ago... Aussie Copy's are like $200 now on eBay 🤣 screw that, I believe I also have a Second Case somewhere and I certainly have a Second Manual
I knew well about Door to Phantomile's devastating ending and token dark tone shift, but when I heard the music that plays the first time you speak to the High Priestess, I was immediately able to tell that this game was going to leave me in ruins by the end.
This game is so important to me ;-; Your review really did it justice!! Though I was surprised to hear it wasn't your favorite, I'm interested to hear which one is! I kept raising my finger to correct you on lore or pronunciations, I'm a frickin nerd please put me out of my misery
Honestly, I don't know what the correct pronunciations are, so I just went with my best instincts. It's not like the voice acting really clears it up. Klonoa is pronounced as Kla'oa in Phantomilan, so it's kind of left up to the person to decide. Usually when it comes to names in fictional languages, I try to use a latinized pronunciation similar to the Spanish/Italian one, and that generally works well for me.
Pretty much everyone pronounces the names and such differently, I'd just never heard your pronunciations before! I didn't mean to make it seem like a bad thing, I'm sorry if I did. I really genuinely enjoy these reviews, they make my day.
+ExoParadigmGamer Just occurred to me that when I said "correct you" that sounded super rude and I apologize for that, I'm not sure what I was trying to say exactly but it wasn't quite that
Man i wish i watched more of your channel last year because i would have already played the klanoa series and appreciate it then i do now Man im kinda glad you speaked more about klanoa than simply mentioning it because by what i hear it might be one of my favorite platform games of all time But i will have to try to comply with what i just said
Solid review for one of the games that defined my childhood. I guess the only thing worth mentioning is that there is also a pseudo 2 player mode where plugging a second controller and pressing square will summon Popka to give Klonoa a third jump.
This review was spot on. Klonoa 2 is hands down one of the, if not my favorite platformer on the PS2 or any console for that matter. Criminally underrated as well.
I only ever had a ps2 demo disc that contained the demo to this, that's the only exposure I ever had to it. The fact that now in 2019, probably about 15 years since I played it and I'm looking at videos for it shows how much it stood out to me. It's a shame as I'd love to play it but the game is considered a rare retro classic and is pretty pricey now.
Great review as always. I find your comment about the lack of progressive scan and widescreen pointless. Yes it is a nice feature, but for games released this early, it's not something to expect. Still, you're doing great with the Klonoa reviews! Keep it up. Oh and that search bar at 2:12 I have a few questions about that search bar.
It's just something that annoys me about the PlayStation 2. The console supports those functionalities, but so many games choose not to include them, and the interlacing doesn't look good on modern TVs. And if you're trying to get good quality footage of the game to include in online UA-cam videos, like me, you don't want it to be interlaced if it can be helped. Although many GameCube games were just as disappointing when it came to widescreen, practically every major release on the system supported progressive scan, from Sunshine, to Luigi's Mansion, to Star Fox Adventures, etc. If the GameCube could include this feature in every mainstream release since 2002, I don't understand why practically ever PS2 game before 2007 (besides Jak and Ratchet) did not. In my eyes, it contributes to the GameCube's visuals holding up better than most PS2 games.
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning was released on the PS2 in 2006 and has widescreen support, but that's probably an exception. Also, it might just be my TV, but Starfox Adventures has these weird colour flickers around some of the models in widescreen. It's hard to explain.
I'm looking forward to your review of the GBA titles. That's where I was first introduced to the Klonoa universe. In fact, I still haven't played Lunatea's Veil!
The end of this game is one of my most memorable gaming moments ever, the music along with the setting and final boss combined to be something really special, even amongst the dozens of absolute gems on the ps2
"Sad for sadness' sake" is a good way to describe the first game's ending. I'll admit the ending in the first was effectively shocking, but overall, even though the climax was weak, I found the the PS2 game more tonally consistent. A lot of the cutscenes, aesthetics and music better nailed home the melancholic "not your typical cutesy platformer" attitude. One thing I love about this game is that, while I normally get extremely annoyed at puzzles in games (I've been playing the Onimusha series and holy crap are the puzzles obnoxious), they're actually a great part of the experience here because they're so perfectly tied to the core mechanics so they don't feel like they're keeping you away from the true reason to play the game. The increased difficulty also made it more engaging; I only remember one bit of platforming that gave me trouble in Klonoa 1
Yeah, a few days after beating Door to Phantomile, I realised that the story wouldn't be any different if the ending wasn't sad. I have the same problem with Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.
Nitro Indigo FMA 2003 was made with a very different mindset compared to the manga (Arakawa said the universe is willfully silly and is meant to have a "B movie" quality). Most people don't notice but there are hints even in the first 2 episodes that they wanted to make it more serious and "artful" and remove a lot of the comedy. The horror scene with the parrot chimera was never in the original and some scenes that are drawn cartoony & comical in the original have more serious realistic art in the TV show. Not to say FMA didn't have completely serious dramatic stuff in it, but the manga definitely has a more self-aware fun loving atmosphere. I think it's different compared to Klonoa because it's an original property and not an edgification, but the ending definitely came out of nowhere.
What I meant is the Alphonse de-aging thing made no sense, came out of nowhere, and the plot would be identical without it, Conqueror of Shamballa notwithstanding.
I thoroughly enjoyed this review. I haven't played Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil since I was about 11 or so, and I really want this game again. I played the Door to Phantomile for the first time about 3 years ago and I loved it. It only made me want to get this game again. I agree with the Visions being particularly long, but it's something I enjoyed. I hope the PS4 has a digital release of this soon, I really want to play again haha.
can we just point something out... clonoa would make for a great Character in the sonic series, no joke, he LOOKS like a sonic Character! he's cute, adorable, and of course, he's awesome. :] I have never played a clonoa game, I have only heard of the character and his games that I never played.
Oh man, I got this one random year for some birthday or Christmas when I was little. definitely didn't ask for it, it just kinda showed up one day and I was OBSESSED. especially when I found out about the pseudo 2 player mode I've sunk a lot of hours into this hidden gem, thanks for doing it justice
Hello ExoParagigmGamer. I'm a graphics designer in college and Klonoa is one of my favorite games and I'm glad you started this marathon. I just wanted to say that I was making a man-made HD remake of Lunatea's Veil on PC and I you would maybe do an RoR on it when I'm done with the project. If so that would be great. However, it will be a long time cause I'm just starting on the project so it will probably be a year or two.
I'm glad you pointed out the long stages. Honestly, I couldn't get into Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze because of that. I love that each stage felt different, although it would have just felt better if maybe two stages used them. Even if they literally cut a stage in half and made it two, I would feel that it would be much better. I can't enjoy getting stuck on a stage for half an hour because of one or two things I have trouble with, where in something like Mario 3, it's right back to the obstacle quickly.
Great video, Exo. Looking forward to your videos on the GBA Konola games. Also, what the fuck is up with your search bar around 2:13? Did Eric write that? XD
Recently figured out how to emulate this game too, and it did NOT disappoint! Took a bit of settings alterations AND using what's technically developer version of the emulator, but eventually the only thing that was still broken (besides extremely minor graphical issues) was the credits.
I genuinely don't know if this is me misremembering things, so I apologise if it is, but anyway... I would swear that there was at least one level in this game that had more than 150 dream stones in it. Not by more than a few, but I'm sure I remember screwing up and still getting the scrapbook image.
out of curiousity what do you think of "Stepping Winds"? you know, the song you used at the ending of this video. do you think the phantamonian singing sounds good? because while I kind of likes it I also feel like the singer sounds a bit to high pitch
Imagine if this marathon was being worked on today. He'd also have to cover the Phantasy Reverie Series. Which makes me wonder... Will he actually do a ROR for the PRS?
Namco Bandai, could you please put Door to Phantomile on the Wii U eShop? And Solatorobo while you're at it, because I want more people to play that game.
Sadly, I missed out on both original Klanoa titles, even growing up with PlayStation. I found the series on the Wii and still haven't played any of the other games. LOVED the remake! Reminded me of Tomba, another PS1 gem.
I love this game. the only levels I thought were a bit too long were ishara's ark, the reverse ones and burning volk. anyway I'd play the hell out of them all over again.
You should do a redux, (once it is release) because Bandai Namco Entertainment is reviving and remaster/remake of Klonoa 1 & 2 (Klonoa Phantasy Reverie) on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series X & PC: Steam Physical copy confirmed Klonoa 2 definitely need R&R
I personaly was able to get almost all of the missing stars at my first play through, they were not to hard to find and I didn't had to replay many levels to complete it. am I just good or is it really not that hard?
+baraksha1 It’s probably just a different play experience. It's possible that you just happened to find memory bells that I happened to miss my first time around. And I never said it was hard so much as it is cumbersome. Replaying 20+ minute levels just to find one little macguffin is kind of a pain in the ass, don't you think?
I've only just recently played through this game for the first time despite me being a fan of the original game since it first came out. I pretty much fully agree with you about this game. Gameplay wise, it definitely feels more refined, and I really like the small additions to the gameplay. The difficulty curve for the most part is also really good. The game starts off easy and steadily becomes more difficult as you get farther into the game. I can't really say the same for the bosses, but they're still fun regardless. And while I'm not sure if I can say this is the best video game plot in the sixth generations of games, I really liked it as well and I really appreciate its underlying themes and the development the characters go through and the interactions they have. Both games are able to achieve a child like charm with their stories but are also able to provide some emotional and meaningful moments that anyone can enjoy.
the first game I really loved on the ps2. glad someone has done a review on it. I love the soundtrack, when I have trouble sleeping I listen to it (maybe cutting out the Hella fun but energetic "stepping wind") poor little emobunny
25:03 (looking at the Amazon prices from 2016, long before Bandai Namco announced the duo remaster): That's actually less pricey than it is nowadays, as of 2022 (the lowest that it can go today is over $80)......ah, simpler times.
1:44 It's a bit of a different story of the SNES though. 2:37 Didn't you also say that in Yoshi's Island ROR video? 7:15 Unless you are a patient person.
Hmm interesting. I remember back when the GBA was out I was interested in this series, but never pursued for one reason or another. For some reason I thought this was a big franchise, like maybe not Mario big, but at least Metroid or Zelda big.
I like your reviews, but the complaint about wide screen and progressive scan in early PS2 was cutting room floor worthy. Like you start by making a statement that shows why the criticism is moot, but then you go on anyway. Basically like me saying, "I understand Super Mario 64 was the first major 3D game to give the player complete camera control, but why are their instances where it fights me and refuses to go in certain directions? I mean Banjo Kazooie almost never had this problem."
Speaking of Banjo, Banjo Tooie (and 1999's Donkey Kong 64) had widescreen, and that was a 2000 N64 game that predates Lunatea's Veil by several months. To me, I just don't understand the logic. If the console supports both functionalities, then why not include them? The whole CRT thing is a flimsy excuse at best, since most mainstream GameCube games have progressive scan, even in the earliest releases. Because of that, I find that they hold up better visually compared to most PS2 games, since they still look good on HDTVs. But I get what you were saying. Honestly, I was grappling over whether to include it in the final script or not. Perhaps I should've left it out after all.
11:37 Yeah I agree with you. It was unacceptable when Sega didn't include it in the HD re-release of SA1 & it's unacceptable here. It's also sad considering all GBA games on the Wii U VC have a Widescreen option. Which IMO makes games like Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones look all the more better & in my book extra visibility is always a good thing.
Here are the best PlayStation 2 games (if you don't see it well though I had to add some games) Grand Theft Auto III Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty ICO Jak & Daxter Grand Theft Auto Vice City Final Fantasy 10 Gran Turismo 3 Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Kingdom Hearts II and the list goes on....
"Bandai Namco has been good about Re-Releasing Klonona games on Digital Storefronts" ummmm well here in Australia you can get Klonoa Empire Of Dreams for GBA through the Wii U VC and Klonoa Door To Phantamile as a PS1 Classic in PSN... However I went to Download Klonoa 1 (which I've owned for years actually) to play on my PS Vita on the way to/from Work this week after playing/100%-ing the Wiimake last Friday (cost me a solid AUD$160 for it Complete and in Mint Condition but TOTALLY WORTH IT considering how much I LOVE Klonoa 2 🤣 👍) but it looks like Klonoa PS1 has been De-Listed as I needed to go into my Download History as it wouldn't show up on the PSN on both PS Vita and PS3... So literally 2 games have been made available and 1 of them isn't even available anymore 🤷
"Leorna" instead of "Leorina". Ha ha, its alright man. I've screwed up names before, too. My experiences with the game are a tad different. I had a pretty easy time getting all the memory dolls, and I'm pretty sure I never had to replay any vision to find the ones that missed. I know I did once or twice in the first game, but no more than that, so I couldn't say that I found that aspect particularly negative. While I really liked the story, I don't think the dialog style and character animation work too well together. When in the middle of the long dialog boxes, several characters are put into looping idle animations instead of having gestures specifically timed to the flow of the dialog. It reminds me a lot of the character animations in Sonic Adventure 1's cutscenes. I think that if the dialog were in a real human language, it wouldn't have been so bad, but with the fictional language with its own syntax and inflection, the characters needed to be animated with more purpose. I guess this kind of ties in to what you said about the need to press a button to forward the dialog boxes. For comparison, look at Shadow of the Colossus. It has a fictional language, but none of the characters go into idle animation, they are all specifically animated to coincide with what their saying. Because of this, I don't think the story comes across as strong as I think it should. I feel like it was trying to accomplish too deep and nuanced a story for the presentation to fully allow. Gibberish language is pretty hit-or-miss with me. I think it's fine in the Banjo-Kazooie games, but I find it annoying in Okami, and in Klonoa 2's case, it falls into 'miss' for me. Speaking of Okami, I think the PS2 was just too technically weak for a lot of developers to get progressive scan out of. Consider the games directed by Hideki Kamiya for that generation. He's a man who likes to get the most out of what console he's working on, and Devil May Cry and Okami don't have 480p. Viewtiful Joe on the Gamecube, however, does have 480p. But when it was ported to the PS2? Nope. All of Square's many games on the PS2 don't have it, but the one game they made for the GC, FF: Crystal Chronicles, does. Out of the literally thousands of PS2 games, it has less games that support progressive scan than the Gamecube, which had a library of about 650 games. And if you have an NTSC Xbox, EVERY game has 480p since you can do a controller input at the console menu to force progressive scan output. So, I generally don't hold it against too many developers for the lack of 480p on PS2. It was the most popular console of its generation, but its technical shortcomings prevented it from a lot of visual greatness.
I know this is months later, but nope! PCSX2 absolutely hates this game. Even after hours of tweaking settings to get the graphics to stop buging the fuck out, the game still crashes very reliably at certain points, making the game unwinnable. (Both 1.4.0 stable and the 1.5.0 autobuilds) This is probably because the PCSX2 codebase contains more hacks to make the most popular games work than it does actual emulator.
DKC3, Sonic 2, Yoshi's island, Klonoa. I enjoy your reviews thoroughly. I really like long videos, and the more in depth the better. One thing I will say though is that a lot of times you're at certain parts that you have trouble doing, parts that are difficult, or parts you flat out don't feel like doing as "flaws" of the game. Extra missions are for People who like the game so much they want a reason to keep playing it, with the added bonus of challenge for the die-hards. If you think getting 100% in Yoshi's Island is boring because it make's the game too long, stop playing. That comment where you were falling asleep playing KILLED ME DUDE. Game's aren't too long because no ones shackling you down to play it. Just play something else and come back to it. If Sonic 2's bonus's break the flow of the gameplay to you, don't get the emeralds. If certain stages are hard to get optional bonuses in DKC3, don't do them. But those mission's along with the extra collectibles and challenges in those games and Klonoa aren't necessarily flaws of the game. Reviews are opinions, and I've givin you a lot of retention time, believe me, you're not a bad reviewer.I seen this in a few of your videos and I just can't help but feel when something is difficult for you, you call it a "flaw".
+Antshield21 I sincerely appreciate your frankness and honesty, but I'm not backing down on this one. I don't think side quests are immune from criticism just because they're optional, and I spend time talking about them because I want to offer a thorough assessment of a game. Generally, I am the type that likes to play side quests, too, because that's how you get the full experience. I make videos to offer my subjective impression of a game and contribute to a conversation. If I think something isn't especially well designed, be it optional or required, I'm going to say so. The scrapbook/dream stone side quest in this game just happens to be one such instance. I don't consider the dream stone side quest to be difficult or an extra challenge. It's more of an exercise of meticulousness, trial and error, and endurance of tedium than it is an exercise of skill or ability. I could push myself to complete the scrapbook, but I don't find it satsifying enough to be worth it, and I said so. You're welcome to enjoy side quests that I do not, but I don’t feel obliged to ignore their flaws just because I don't technically have to play them. I've also been very consistent in mentioning the fact that Special Stages, Bonus Rooms and the like are optional and that you don’t have to play them if you don't want to. I remember saying in my DKC3 review that I did a second run of the SNES version without bonus rooms and really liked it. In this video, I said that Klonoa 2 was really fun and the long levels weren't a big deal if you skipped the side quests. So as long as I acknowledge the optional nature of side quests and judge games in light of that fact, what's the harm in criticizing side quests that I don't enjoy?
Oh no harm. Doesn't make me want to troll you for stop watching your reviews. All reviewer express opinion and not fact, and you explain yourself thoroughly. Just pointing out a trend I saw in your videos. Stampede Sprint in DKC3 was a bitch like you said, but somehow I find DKC2 far more daunting to 100%, obviously our opinions aren't going to line up in everything. Anything I disagree with does not stop me from enjoying your long well thought out reviews. Sometimes the line is blurred with personally not liking a part of the game and whether or not it's good game design, but it's all opinion. Thank you for your response and keep up the good work.
*MAJOR Spoilers. Don't read if you're going to play the first game.* His name is Huepow and the first game ended with Klonoa being exiled from his world.
Wait... when you showed the sales... A Hero's Tail was a commercial failure too? Also, I've only watched three minutes of this video, and I'm already regretting selling my PS2. Oh well.
This is my favorite game of all time. I've had points where I've wavered, and it felt like Undertale surpassed that at one point because of how it broke conventions, but every time I think about it I go back to this game.

Good review. Took me longer to comment than I thought it would lol.
KingK I love this comment
Any chance youll do a retrospective series on klonoa? I'd be stoked for it
And now you have the perfect opportunity to talk about both of the mainline games in just a few months, HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAUHUHUHAUHAUHAUHAU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bought this for 5 bucks in a discount bin when I was a kid, best 5$ I've ever spent.
ExoParadigmGamer how much did your copy of klonoa 2 cost ?
VGChartz is actually pretty inaccurate. Nathaniel Foga mine costs 45 pounds 1st hand
I heard this game has some compatibility issues?
Will it work fine on a SCPH 79001?
Klonoa reminds me of Kirby: cute characters, using enemies to your advantage, and sudden dark elements.
BigBossMan538 Also, in japan, the titles look similar: Hoshi no Kabi (Kirby of the stars) and Kaze no Klonoa (Klonoa of the Wind)
Only difference is Kirby isn't dead...

Man I really wish Klonoa 2 would come to the PS2 line-up of games on the PS4. Also if Bandai Namco wanted a new Klonoa game to REALLY sell, they should've done it for the Nintendo Switch's launch, since there really wasn't much for it.
coreykun667 yeah,a klonoa-game should come to the switch
@Olivia 757 Yeah, I can finally try the series when that comes out.
Too bad it's not in USA for the switch physically ;-; but at least it's happening at all
This game brings back memories of when I had my PS2.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nevermind.
Shame about Star Fox Zero; it really plays better than Star Fox 64 IMO. What is your next planned Remake Or Rebreak?

I just recently uncovered this gem at our local retro gaming store. I had been ignoring it due to its price but I finally caved in and bought it just the other day. Let's just say I don't regret my choice...xD

Rated E for Everyone :D
You think finding a copy of Klonoa 2 is hard, try finding a PAL copy when you live in New Zealand! I had to buy from a site in the Netherlands!
Welp... how about the remaster?
I knew well about Door to Phantomile's devastating ending and token dark tone shift, but when I heard the music that plays the first time you speak to the High Priestess, I was immediately able to tell that this game was going to leave me in ruins by the end.
It depresses me how we never got Klonoa 3.
really? that must suck.
This game is so important to me ;-;
Your review really did it justice!!
+ExoParadigmGamer Just occurred to me that when I said "correct you" that sounded super rude and I apologize for that, I'm not sure what I was trying to say exactly but it wasn't quite that
+MnstrMthd No problema.
I had no clue there was a PS2 sequel of Klonoa! Bro, you're a total blessing!! :)
Man i wish i watched more of your channel last year because i would have already played the klanoa series and appreciate it then i do now
Man im kinda glad you speaked more about klanoa than simply mentioning it because by what i hear it might be one of my favorite platform games of all time
But i will have to try to comply with what i just said
18:44 seriously love these segments in Empire of Dreams. They were addicting one more try moments they made for a nice change of pace.
Solid review for one of the games that defined my childhood.
I guess the only thing worth mentioning is that there is also a pseudo 2 player mode where plugging a second controller and pressing square will summon Popka to give Klonoa a third jump.
I been really enjoying the Klonoa marathon, and i really looking forward to the next one

I love these reviews. They're adequate and unbiased.
The cell shading in klonoa 2 does not predate jet set radio though!
This review was spot on. Klonoa 2 is hands down one of the, if not my favorite platformer on the PS2 or any console for that matter. Criminally underrated as well.
Lunatea's veil > Door to Phantomile
COME AT ME!
Keep it up.
Oh and that search bar at 2:12
I have a few questions about that search bar.
*Reads Description*
B-but Exo, you forgot life's biggest question...Where has the Rum gone?
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning was released on the PS2 in 2006 and has widescreen support, but that's probably an exception. Also, it might just be my TV, but Starfox Adventures has these weird colour flickers around some of the models in widescreen. It's hard to explain.
I'm looking forward to your review of the GBA titles. That's where I was first introduced to the Klonoa universe. In fact, I still haven't played Lunatea's Veil!
+Pedro Lambrini It’s unfortunate that nobody seems to talk about them. And people call the console Klonoas overlooked.
The end of this game is one of my most memorable gaming moments ever, the music along with the setting and final boss combined to be something really special, even amongst the dozens of absolute gems on the ps2
13:13 Hiddden Haedox confirmed!
LOL
He's watching you
"Sad for sadness' sake" is a good way to describe the first game's ending.
I got opposite feeling. 2nd game felt much more childish and basically it is typical cutesy platformer
@@RealHero101111 because every cutesy platformer deals with depression and the fear of being a failure

My first PS2 game, what a start
Hello ExoParagigmGamer. I'm a graphics designer in college and Klonoa is one of my favorite games and I'm glad you started this marathon. I just wanted to say that I was making a man-made HD remake of Lunatea's Veil on PC and I you would maybe do an RoR on it when I'm done with the project. If so that would be great. However, it will be a long time cause I'm just starting on the project so it will probably be a year or two.
Any progress on it?
I'm glad you pointed out the long stages. Honestly, I couldn't get into Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze because of that. I love that each stage felt different, although it would have just felt better if maybe two stages used them. Even if they literally cut a stage in half and made it two, I would feel that it would be much better. I can't enjoy getting stuck on a stage for half an hour because of one or two things I have trouble with, where in something like Mario 3, it's right back to the obstacle quickly.
Rayman called, he said "Bongo hills" before hanging up
I love the longer levels in Tropical Freeze.
Great video, Exo. Looking forward to your videos on the GBA Konola games. Also, what the fuck is up with your search bar around 2:13? Did Eric write that? XD

I genuinely don't know if this is me misremembering things, so I apologise if it is, but anyway...
I quite enjoy it...Hell, I'm 13, and I'm learning how to speak phantomillian!
so im assuming that the song your talking about at 13:01 is the ruins of sadness?
I relate very much to both the morals in this game and the first game. Remember kids, it is okay to cry when necessary

That's what I meant.
Great review as always Exo.
You should do a redux, (once it is release) because Bandai Namco Entertainment is reviving and remaster/remake of Klonoa 1 & 2 (Klonoa Phantasy Reverie) on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series X & PC: Steam
Physical copy confirmed
Klonoa 2 definitely need R&R
I personaly was able to get almost all of the missing stars at my first play through, they were not to hard to find and I didn't had to replay many levels to complete it. am I just good or is it really not that hard?
+baraksha1 It’s probably just a different play experience. It's possible that you just happened to find memory bells that I happened to miss my first time around. And I never said it was hard so much as it is cumbersome. Replaying 20+ minute levels just to find one little macguffin is kind of a pain in the ass, don't you think?
I didn't counts how long it took me to play each level, but it didn't even felt like 20 minutes. maybe I enjoy so much that I don't notice
I'm as old as this game all the way down to the day it was released

Hmm interesting. I remember back when the GBA was out I was interested in this series, but never pursued for one reason or another.
For some reason I thought this was a big franchise, like maybe not Mario big, but at least Metroid or Zelda big.
awesome review exo
Somehow, I knew this would happen.
+ExoParadigmGamer have you gotten any chance of seeing the ratchet and clank movie yet
Hello Exo, long time no see, oh wait wrong video.
Just picked up the game for 30 pounds at a retro game store! Cant wait to play this !
How is Klonoa using his Wind Bullets without Huepao?
Without spoiling the ending of DTP, we'll say that Klonoa's ring can be powered by magic sensitive creatures from whatever world he's in.
Remind's me of Goku's Spirit Bomb, a move that is made of the energy of the world around him.
Cool. I want this game now.

After I finished the Dark Sea of Tears, the following cutscene had no sound, and I tested that with two games, did the same happened to you?
Wait, time out. Before you changed the credits announcing SFZ getting cancelled, what was the remix to Moonlight Museum that you had before?
The music I used for the credits sequence was the staff roll music from Lunatea's Veil.
Ah, got it. Thanks! Off to iTunes I go.
Well, GBA games had a widescreen ratio to begin with. The screen was 240x160. You can't play it in 4:3 without squishing the image inwards.
ExoParadigmGamer Touche.
I can't help but wonder; does a Klonoa fangame exist somewhere?
There is a 3d Klonoa fangame
I'll tell you what Namco should do, team up with platinum and do a hack n slash + rpg (bayonetta/Zelda) Klonoa game. Just think how crazy that'd be!
Here are the best PlayStation 2 games (if you don't see it well though I had to add some games)
Grand Theft Auto III
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
ICO
Jak & Daxter
Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Final Fantasy 10
Gran Turismo 3
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Kingdom Hearts II
and the list goes on....
How many of those are ONLY on the ps2 though?
What do you think of the Pikmin series? I find them to be excellent real-time strategy games.
I played Pikmin 3 and liked it fine.
Hey EPG! I was wondering if you could do a video covering sonic unleashed, I think it would be good for the is it really that bad? Series.
Sadly , I don't have a PS2 😞😞😞
I hope sometime there's a way to play Kolona 2
Goku Black emulator
I know this is months later, but nope! PCSX2 absolutely hates this game. Even after hours of tweaking settings to get the graphics to stop buging the fuck out, the game still crashes very reliably at certain points, making the game unwinnable. (Both 1.4.0 stable and the 1.5.0 autobuilds)
This is probably because the PCSX2 codebase contains more hacks to make the most popular games work than it does actual emulator.
I guess I'm fortunate in that I own this game, although I've never played very far. (A problem I have with a lot of games I own.)
+Antshield21 Yep. Appreciated.
