Here’s an opinion from someone who’s owned a few of these, currently owns one and has spend almost half his life working on em. 428 CJ with a 4 speed toploader manual, get a front coilover setup with tubular upper arms with a shelby built in, tubular lowers, big sway bar, 355 gears at least, keep manual steering and brakes, less issues. Just get a quick ratio box with a quick ratio pitman arm. Also pro tip: pedal feel highly depends on master cylinder bore size. Mine feel pretty close to power brakes due to my cylinder size. Drop it an inch in the rear either with lowering blocks or reverse eye springs and put some meats on those wheels and these cars can drive and handle EXTREMELY well

Keep it old school! You already have the modern engine. You’ll appreciate both the modern and the classic this way! With the right heads and cam you should be able to get close to 600HP out of that motor.

Coyote swaps are popular but there not that popular because of the price obviously . They yield amazing results and their dohc with vct. Volumetric efficiency is something their precisely built on regardless if its N/A or FI. They make great power Why hate on that lol modern technology doing what moder technology does.

Coyotes have way more potential and much smoother power. Like it or not its the new starting point. Pushrods are cheap for a reason, very old tech.

I used to be into Mustangs when I was young and now in my thirties I have gotten the bite again. I found my dad's old 05 Mustang GT. It's modded and he used to race it at the drag strip when the guy I bought it from him but dad bought n 06 he liked. The buyer drove it home and it has sat for 2 and a 1/2 years! Thankfully he drain the gas and unplug the battery. It's got dust and leaves all over it lol but after the battery and some gas we started it and it ran like it never sat at all. He's asking 4 k for it. I'm picking it up this weekend. 4 eyes actually responded to this story and said I should start making a UA-cam video on the whole restoration to bring it back to life with my personality. Your videos definitely help a lot with motivation!

The FE motors in the Mustang/Cougars had no changes to the strut towers or basic shells. They got heavy duty shocks and springs, 9 inch rears, and stronger transmissions than small blocks. If you want to change to coil-overs and shave the strut towers you will make changing spark plugs a lot easier.

This is gonna be a badass build, as with any build, never assume it’s simple or plug n play, especially with a classic, there so much Interchangeability with parts, so good good research is definitely needed to make sure you get the right parts. As far as how the guy had it setup, it’s honestly amazing, nothing can beat an EFI carburetor, makes starting easy and less problems with drive ability without hoe versatile it is with tuning and making sure all the parameters are correct. If you do a manual swap do a built T5, best way you can go with a classic.

Keeping it "old school" is great imo. That motor looks SO familiar since my cousin had the 428 Cobra Jet in his 1969 Torino & my brother had the 429 Cobra Jet in his 1970 Torino. The Ford 427 cu. inch would be A-1 also. Don't forget on those H.P. ratings Ford did FoMoCo purposely kept the rating low for much more affordable auto insurance back then. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual H.P. on those Ford BB's were 50-75 hp higher. I have a feeling you'll be stunned & pleasantly surprised by the low-end torque that engine will have. They were stump-pullers to say the least. Best wishes for you on that project.Take Care & "Happy Motoring"

I say keep the motor and style old school, but suspension could be modernized to an extent; maybe coilovers and swaybars, and braking should be a priority as well. U could also consider running a really wide tire setup with a fairly minimal widebody and maybe an LSD

351 Windsor wouldn't require much modification to the engine compartment. There are more aftermarket parts available to it and the weight balance would be more neutral. That's the way I would likely go for ease of build and potential power
