If you completely remove the old spikes and align the new screw holes, you should be able to use the same placement.
Wouldnt using a rubber mallet be preferable ?
A rubber mallet may be used if you prefer.
what if it is uneven stone would the shutters not look right
The anchor points of the shutter need to be on the same plane. Uneven surfaces may cause the shutter to twist.
You can purchase plastic ferrules for un-even surfaces
This is the worse way to install these types of shutters Shutter spikes deteriorate from UV and then break. Do not use this method unless you want to replace these spikes every year or two. 👎🏻👎🏻
