- I'm demoing a wonderful Silvertone Model 1472 guitar amp from 1961 using a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom. These amps were built for Sears by Danelectro and there still really affordable.
I guess even the amp itself was surprised by how good it sounded. Very nice amp, but you also have a very good talent to find out how to make gear sound great, Johan. Thanks!
Thanks man, really good to hear that! 😀
You hear some of these old amps, even the inexpensive ones, and wonder how current amp manufacturers have forgotten how to make something that sounds as good.
Thanks yeah lots of Mojo in these
@@JohanSegebornwhy is that tube removed? The one with the clear cover over it ? Wondering because I have one of these amps
In my opinion the secret is the mid frequency .

Wow! Really didn't expect it to sound that good in the mix. It rocked out!
Thanks, really good to hear that!
I've been on a 6V6 kick for a couple years now.
In a world of very convenient amp sims and speaker impulses, it is quite refreshing to hear the more natural and human aspects of a real tube amp.
Can you believe you could get an amp this cool out of a fucking catalogue? Sensational.
Yeah, pretty cool
What an amazing little gem of an amp. Nicely played as usual Johan 👍
Thanks AC!
Another hit for the Segeborn Brothers! Fantastic sounding amp and really cool looking as well. I like The Jetsons vibe.
Thanks Eddie! 😀
this little amp is truly a one-man army.
i remember plugging one in and cranking it and it truly lived up to the height
amazing as always johan.
Thanks! Glad to hear it
i love these! i’ve had a 1483 head for a few years and they’re so great. like a lower wattage black plate bassman, but still super loud with great breakup. nice work as always johan!
Thanks! Glad to hear it!
Never heard one like this. Love it. I remember when they were cheap
Being in a band can wear out people so it's really nice to see the brothers back together! Cool video.
Thanks man! Glad to hear it! 😀
One of the best sounding amplifiers of all time. Thank you Johan for all you do
In the quest for tone. Cheers from Hawaii. Darrell
Thanks Darrell! Cheers!
OMG! I need one of the those. Amazing how back in the day even the budget consumer stuff was made better than some stuff considered to be top shelf quality today.
I love watching you Johan. I think you love doing this!
Cuts in the mix perfectly! Even seems to sound better than the Plexi!
Thanks, yeah I liked it better too
Friendlier SPLs for sure. @@JohanSegeborn
Greetings! The Marshall drives a 4x12 cab that sounds with more lows, whereas the Silvertone 1x12 enhances more midrange and cuts better in the mix, just considering speakers and cabs, assuming controls in both amps with a flat eq and approximately same volume. That's why smaller amps generally are preferred in studios, also some break up easier into overdrive with lower watts.
Now that is one beautiful sounding amp Johan! Inspirational. Fantastic playing too.
I once recorded in a studio in Stockholm that had one of these. The tremolo was great.
Omg! What an amp!
It sounded amazing.
Thanx for this Johan.😊
Thanks, glad you like it!
I love this song !!! Amazing played ! Hello to France !
Dynamite vintage amps!
Cheers Ron!
The Silvertone 1472 is a cool amp though I prefer the Magnatone 213/413 amps. Valco amps are also another cool US amp. They made amps for many different companies ranging from National, Gretsch & Supro. The 6V6 is an underrated tube for rock tones. A definite American sound.
I love 6v6 powered 5 watters, got a silvertone 1471, a gretsch 6150t, 6151, and a '74 champ...those gretsches get rowdy!
@@jasondorsey7110 The Gretsch 6150t & 6151 were made by Valco. The Valco made amp I like is an Airline 62-9035. It has a single 6v6 with tremolo and the boxiest sounding reverb ever that just sounds so unique. Valco made amps for so many brands. Once you play a few of them, you begin to realize that the Valco made amps are all over records recorded in Chicago & Nashville from the early 60's
I remember being shocked the first time I played one of these in a store. It had complete hard rock tones, up to and including almost-VH.
Yeah, surprisingly gainy for a 1950s design
Fantastic amps! I've got the big brother 1484 and holy smokes when you crank it on ch2 with the treble up, it's just the best. There's a gnarly slightly fuzzy aggressiveness to them that I don't think you get with say, a tweed or brown Fender.
Old silvertones (especially the 1482) are absolutely the most incredible bang for the buck with regards to vintage amps. Tied with old Ampeg Jets.
Sounds _KILLER!_
I have beautiful 1966 model 1482 that I restored, modded/upgraded and absolutely adore.. One of my favorite amps ever. 😎🤘
I currently have a Weber Signature 12s in mine, but I might have to try a Greenback now. 😉
Thanks, glad to hear it!
Awesome tone Johan. I have a '65 1482 that's just amazing. I had a '67 too at one time. I replaced the baffle board in my '67 with 3/8" birch plywood and put a Weber SIG12A in it. I also installed jacks to both the 4 ohm and 8 ohm OT taps so I could swap speakers, run through cabs and to make running to an attenuator to get a line level signal easier. You are absolutely right about them being fantastic recording amps. These amps LOVE to be boosted too. They are so much fun to play through. Nicely done! 👍
Thanks! Glad to hear it!
Super glam rock sound.
Thanks!
sounds just fantastic, thank you Johan. Take care
Thanks Mark! Glad you like it!
Cool amp😊
Thanks!
Sounds great.
Thanks
Now the price on those is going to go way up… that amp sounds amazing Johan!
Thanks, glad you like it!
Wonderful little amp! Really sounds great, for me on par with some Fenders of that time. Just curious, you got the Silvertone outside of Sweden? Or there was some importer ?
Until the 80s there were a few Sears stores in some european countries, but I doubt these amps were sold there. Sears went out of business around 10 ago here in the USA. You have there a real museum piece, enjoy it and thanks for the great demo ! Cheers!
Thanks! Good question. It’s probably been bought on some guitar convention in US
The circuit is very tweed fender like. You are 100% right about the baffle. That is the amp's downfall.
Absolutely killer Johan 🤘🙏
Thanks Clive!
I have one of these just bought it after years of missing one that I borrowed from a friend and loved. Well my new one I just bought has so much clean headroom , not the same punchy rock tone I remember but great tone none the less , also it's equipped with a Jensen p12ps , I think I might try it with a 66 Jensen c12r that I have.
I collect silvertone amps n guitars they are awesome the under dogs like me.Sounds amazing
Thanks! Yeah the underdog aspect is cool, since they punch way above their weights
Definitely a sleeper amp, them and the 1482's. 😎
The 6x10 jensen cabnet is also cool
Amazing sounding amp ! I remember playing through a Silvertone that the bass player let me use in rehearsal in high school in the 70's, running a Big Muff into it and it sounded great ! You could turn it all the up witjout going deaf.
Thanks James!
Great sounding amp! The greenback really wakes up these old amp that could sound flubby or weak with the old Jensens.
If you ever get a chance check out it's big brother the 1484 head. The one I have Skip Simmons restored for me and I'm using it with a pair of Eminence Squarebacks (another great tip from you!) that amp really rocks.
Thanks! Glad to hear about the squarebacks!
Skip worked on my 1484 back around 2010. He wound up one of the channels and it seriously sounds like a cranked Marshall. It’s crazy. He did the same thing with my Airline 9003 (basically the same amp as this 1472) and it sounds incredible as well.
Oh man.. You are right. It sounds fantastic. And just 10 watts. I'd say it is definitely a sleeper, so to speak. Awesome video brother! Appreciate it very much.👍🏼
I just found this video. Sounds great! I think the Silvertone 1472 and 1482 used Fisher speakers.
Hi, Johan!
Its a beautiful mix of your "know how"! Like it! See you!
S.
Little more solo guitar and it will be just perfect!
Thanks man! Glad to hear it
Sounds killer!!!
Thanks Joe!
There is one of these for sale near me…might have to grab it, love these low wattage amps.
Aloha Johan! ALL
RIGHT LET'S GO! Another great amp. More in my price range I think. Mahalo!
Aloha Victor! Glad you like it
I need to get my 1958 Danelectro Cadet 122 working. With a DOD Classic Tube and a TS9 Tube screamer, it sounds awesome!
Wow, what a glorious little amp!
It reminds me of the old Supro amps, beautiful sound.
I’d love to hear it with a Jensen or Heppner speaker as well. 🙂
Thanks man! I’m definitely gonna try that too
Nice!!
Thanks!
So cool!
Cheers
Does sound extremely good. Lovely creamy tone. I wonder how it might sound with the addition of a Rangemaster type booster.
Thanks! Yeah that could take it into Iommi territory if one is lucky
@@JohanSegeborn
Dunno if you know Johan, but Catalina breed got an Iommi signature pedal called Sabra Cadabra, think they make it non Iommi branded too under a different name or a simpler box.
Hasnt tested it though. Maybe your buddies at musikbörsen have it and can let you test it?
Or if you have checked it out can say if its any good?
Regarding "booster"
The Segeborn Bros, strike again! \m/ Groovy little amp!
Cheers DMS!
Interesting how it sounds with the pulsonic Celestion! Mine still has the original Fisher speaker! You should try jumpering the channels also on this one!
Cool! I have to try that!
Right, A lot of those had Fisher speakers in them.. Rather dark sounding. Mine was roached in my 1482, so I replaced it with a Weber. :)
Jumpering the channels is definitely the way to go IMHO 👍
@@R3TR0R4V3 yes dark but not in a bad way
I’m not certain which tracks to point out, but I recall some studio pictures of Soundgarden using Silvertones on “Down on the Upside.” Just a recollection.
You can really hear the bottles in this one :D
Thanks!
Would be interesting to compare with the original Jensen?
This reminds me of your demo of the Carr Mercury with the Cream back speake.
Came with CTS or even less expensive and obscure. The 1471 is also really great.
Wow serviced by Daves Sound Repair! I know him and live close to his shop!
Cool! Small world
Shhhh... there goes the price... laney reverb unit 70s... in future????? 65 fender reverb tank??? I live in hillbilly...... usa. Do you have a ...69 marshall popular video..??. 73 orange combo??? I will look
Hahaha! 😆 Simon has a Laney Reverb tank at Musikbörsen actually
I've been looking for one of those for years. These are rare and not what I would call affordable. But then again "value is in the eyes of the beholder"
Get a K atana. Johan back when they first come out get a demo up one The new versions are capable of a lot more sounds might be the last amp I ever buy. And they're cheap.
Yeah I think they’re around 600 bucks. Not dirt cheap but an insane amount of tone for the buck
They are not THAT rare and never more then 1000$
@@mohamedtlass3842
These amps aren’t really “rare” here in the US, but they very well might be rare in other parts of the world. Even here in the US, I can tell you without a doubt that there far less of these amps still around compared to how common they were in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
What controls other than the tremolo circuit are on this amp? This is a great sounding amp!
What brand of drums is this? I really like the sound of the snare.
Good One !!
The amp sounds great with the g12m. They can get a bit too flabby with the Jensen.
Looks like you have the original output transfomer but are using a 16 ohm speaker instead of the original 4 ohm. And it still sound great! Interesting.
Have you tried it in a 4 Ohm speaker/cab?
Thanks! Great info. I didnt know that. I’m definitely gonna try it with an impedance matcher now
Fun fact all original blackface fender amps also use particle board baffles!
Yeah weird combination with PTP and Particleboard
Everything you play through sounds so good. Maybe try to find one you dont find sweet. A ss crate or something
Mine is fantastic, when it's not at the tech.
Why is that one tube removed ?
❤❤❤❤❤
hi :) hello, make a video Celestion G15 V-100 Fullback vs Celestion G12M-25 Greenback
I have one but am I wrong I thought it was a 1482
The 1482 is grey and this one is black. I think it’s got at different handle too
Right, there's a 1472 (like in this video - black with "refrigerator" handle, then there's the 1482, like Johan mentioned.
Great now you jacked
Up the price
To 1500
Sorry about that 🫣
@@JohanSegeborn more a joke. Lol i had that exact amp
And it rocks.
I can tell your influenced by Space Ace
Not affordable anymore;)
These dad blues riffs are so boring…
