    ✔️About this Episode:
Ever since we announced Season 5 in Alaska, we’ve been hearing horror stories about Alaska. In a way, we’re grateful because it helped us take it seriously and make the proper upgrades to our Ford F250 and Grand Design Reflection. It also set our expectations high…allowing us to think it was much easier than we thought.
There was only one section of the 1,400 mile journey that was “bad” with two gravel stretches under construction and dozens of frost heaves (unpredictable and unlevel sections of the road). Even these sections we did not find difficult, but it’s important to mention that we traveled this section in late June and perhaps the roads were improved since they thawed in the spring. Also, if a rig was overweight or driving too fast, the frost heaves could easily cause axle or leaf spring issues. For this reason, we’re glad that we added air to our truck and MORryde suspension to the trailer. It’s also important to mention that we had zero desire to drive routes such as the Top of the World Highway or visit Chicken, AK that would have added extra miles and gravel roads. We consider these to be “check-list destinations”. We came to AK for wildlife and adventure. Everyone has their own reasons, but it’s important to know why you’re going before you leave or you could be disappointed. It’s a big place and trying to do it all can be overwhelming.

There are some trends showing up in the comments already so we thought we'd pin a comment :)
We created a new category on our Amazon page called "RVing Alaska" with some of the things we bought specifically for AK, including the foam bubble material for our windows www.amazon.com/shop/keepyourdaydream
Also, we were able to get the produce through, but this was not a normal border crossing :) The people ahead of us didn't get their apples through! Lastly, we have no idea why Caleb didn't have shoes on... we didn't realize we created a cliffhanger lol. I wish we were that cleaver.
Anyway, this was a fun episode to edit and share. We really like sharing the journey and family dynamics. There are some pretty epic episodes coming soon. AK has delivered big time. See you next Sunday!

Perhaps Trish would post/link the clothes she wears. 😁😃 She has STYLE. Her necklace. Her black jacket with the baby blue lining. Her Eskimo boots with the red soles.

UA-cam is such an interesting thing.. I can follow people on trips, I learn about new things & I plan my future trips based on theirs. I can find humor along with them, I seriously laugh out loud at least once a video & that is not accounting for the numerous smiles. These people that I have never met can feel like family. I look forward to my weekly update. I look forward to hearing updates about their kids. And I find them ridiculously entertaining. This is awesome! ☺🍷

I agree. That's the same way we felt prior to starting our channel. There were people we watched and then we got to the end of the videos and found out their last one was a year ago 😱We said, "You can't stop!" which is what everyone said on that last video.

I think what makes the difference is that we can feel your investment. It feels like you guys are having a good time. You are recording your good times, making it informative & while you may make a bit off of it, it never feels like you are doing it for the money. I can watch a video & it feels like you are wanting to share. That makes all the difference. It feels like more than just a job. It feels like a community. I forget that I don't really know you, lol. You guys know how to do this & you do it so well. ❤ Thank you.

RE: Long Days. I spent the summer Solstice (June 21,1982) as my first day on a Project in Prudhoe Bay Alaska at the ARCO camp. All windows were taped. There was no night at all. It was like noon sun 24/7. In November it was night 24/7 and you did not see daylight until your rotation flight out when the Alaskan Airlines flight got to about 30,000 ft. Alaska is an interesting place. In Anchorage, they have Moose walking through the office Parks and Sigalerts when they go on a rampage in rush hour traffic. The Oil companies had me commute from Southern California to Alaska for 3 weeks and then home 1 week then back. Did this for 14 months. Loved the Area. Great for photography.
Enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.

Ken, yes traffic stops for all wildlife on these Alaskan roadways. You should see when a family (goose and goslings) are meandering across the road holding up traffic. It's interesting how the evening light interferes with the sleep of newcomers. I was under the impression that it only interferes with sleep for a couple of then days and then you adjust. I have neve r covered windows other than curtains and I sleep with the blinds slightly up open because I like seeing what time it is when I awake.

My wife and I ordered our first travel trailer back in January. I went to You Tube to find out if my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk could really pull what we just bought. I found your Fantastic video which helped us so much we watched the next and the next and now like other folks we watch every Sunday night. My wife laughs at me when I am at church, state park or just out with friends and someone asked something about camping or our new trailer and I say” well Marc and Trisha showed us...” then she can not leave that go and has to explain you guys have never met us, we are not life long friends, these are people on a You Tube channel. I say it so often like you are friends and we know your family. We are thankful for the beautiful sites we hope to also see. We are thankful for your genuine videos of the great times and the bad times. I appreciate you hard work behind the scenes to make these videos better and better. We love camping.

Hey, just a thought, stop just in front of the border crossing and stand at the side of the road where people are coming into the country you are leaving. Have a sign that says free food. There are always folks who are doing what you are doing but with far less resources . Plus, giving without gain, never gets old.

Amazing. I'm so glad it's the eagle instead. Now being in AK... it's really an amazing bird. They are so big, the adolescent eagles actually look like turkey's as they sit in the trees (without the white head). When they land, it's like a crash! We were fishing last week with 50 eagles above us... that video will be fun to share!

We were in Alaska several years ago. We were on a shore excursion and the captain of the boat we were on said the way some eagles die is they catch too big a fish in their talons and they drown. It was a surprise to us.

Jim, my husband used your Bob trick last week on our trip up to Boerne, Texas. My husband started talking about Bob up front and I had to think about it for a second before I caught on to what he was referring to. We traded in our Open Range 2015 for a Grand Design Reflection 337 RLS 2018 and I requested blackout blinds be added in the bedroom just because of you guys! Thanks for the bargaining tip. :) Can't wait to pick her up and hit the road. Branson trip in the planning with two other couples caravanning.

And, again in the beginning of today's episode I was wondering, "Hmm, I wonder what time it is?!?!" Thanks Trish, I loved it, and I hope you keep asking throughout your entire visit in Alaska!
    • We like following Bob also. We hope to always be behind Bob, and sometimes 2 or 3 Bob's is better! Bob is very helpful!

We use the silver bubble wrap for our windows and put some heavy duty velcro on the frame of the window to hold them on. We even covered the skylights and it is so helpful. In our 3 boys bunks they just leave them on all the time. It saves them time taking them off and putting them on. We are able to travel 30 days each summer. Some day hope to do full time.

Congress chose the American Bald Eagle to be our national bird in 1784. Benjamin Franklin thought that the wild turkey would be a better symbol because it was a much more respectable bird.

Benjamin Franklin wanted it to be the wild turkey...not sure who it was that said no lets have it be what we have now. I'm with you though sure glad it's the Bald Eagle. Beautiful scenery. if I ever make it there to Watson Lake I'll have to hope it's in the near future so I can find this video again a listen to the riddle. I love riddles. Awesome video and Caleb you are a super cool kid and you always make me laugh or smile. You rock, dude!

I drove from Fairbanks to El Paso Tx in 1975. There were only 12 poles of the sign forest when I stopped there and posted my home town on a board (Eagle Pass Tx). From your video it has really grown. Maybe one day I'll go thru there again.

Gee, KYD, what do I say? Another super video with fantastic scenes (nature and people), great interaction and helpful information. Oh, Trish, when you play your "What time is it?" game, I keep thinking of the early-TV show "Howdy Doody Show." Buffalo Bob (host) would open the show with that line and the response from the in-studio kids would be, "It's Howdy Doody time!" Ok, I know that dates me, but, good memories, just the same. Trisha's version is just as entertaining. The Reflectix solution is super; so many applications around the house, too! Love Sunday for your show. Be safe!

Thank you, first of all, by showing all of us up with your beautiful sign!!!!! :,D But more so, for the advice about needing a ladder or other means of tall-sign-placing-ability.
HAPPY HOUR!!! "Get all 'woo-hoo'!" There is no waiting for dark around Alaska. We drink...
As for 'what time is it,' we find a major change in winter when we just want to sleep and sleep and sleep.... and drink....
Interestingly, when we were kids growing up in Glennallen, our folks would put solid foam boards up in the windows to keep the cold out. You can imagine the intensity of the very opposite of what we get in the summer. NO SUNLIGHT. When I did sports in High School, I would catch the bus at 7:35am, in the dark, then be inside the school through ball practice until 7:30pm. With dark setting in at 4:30, I would not see daylight for a solid 3 months each winter.
It is seriously weird to travel someplace in summer and have it pitch black at 7pm.
I think the Richardson might be worse than the Alcan. Let me know.

BRAVO for another wonderful, informative - albeit "unverified" - episode!! FYI: It was Benjamin Franklin who lobbied for the turkey to be our national bird [can you imagine eating roast eagle for Thanksgiving dinner???]; and the agency that built the Alaska Highway is the U.S. Army CORPS of Engineers. They have also constructed lock & dam waterways on the Tennessee, Tombigbee, Black Warrior and Mississippi Rivers. Fascinating feats of engineering and construction!!
Do they still have the fuel stop in Tok where a fill up gets you a free car wash??

You were standing under a blue sign for Goderich, CN. If you ever get to southern Ontario it's a must see! I think it was voted, "Canada's prettiest town." Also, trivia, it was Ben Franklin that was pushing for the turkey, for it's cunning and intelligence. And it's delicious.

My wife and boys along with me enjoy your videos. My wife is from Delta Junction and wanted to make a correction. At the end of the Alaskan highway you get on the Richardson hiway. It runs from Valdez to Fairbanks and the Parks highway runs from Fairbanks thru Denali to Anchorage.
I also wanted to let you know your section on the blackout shades, I loved your comment on how you foiled the sun. I laughed so hard and my wife rolled her eyes, which just added to the laughter.
Enjoy your trip. P.s. they have a ton of full hookup sites (nice) a little father off the main roads dirt cheap and pretty empty with water and dump stations. We road tripped all of Alaska and Canada for our honeymoon.

A little south of Anchorage near Girdwood is a place call the Crow Creek Mine where you can rent a pan and try your hand in the creek. When we went there many years ago you could buy a small baggie of dirt/sand/gravel that was "salted" with a few flecks of real gold so you can pan it yourself. Don't remember the cost.
