  • Hello, this is Tom from Tye Landscaping and today we are going to core and tap a city storm sewer drain pipe. We’ve done this before, but this one is more of a challenge because it’s under the street.
    This nice young couple have a big backyard which also has a big problem with standing water. Three of their neighbors are higher than them and all their water is coming to this property. I’ve walked this property with the town engineer and the city will not allow any water to go to the street or even to the front yard. They weren’t lucky enough to have a storm sewer catch basin in the street, so the solution is to capture all that water and run it to the city storm sewer pipe which unfortunately is three feet in the street.
    This is the second video of this project. There is a previous video of us locating the pipe. In future videos we will be trenching and installing over 500 feet of pipe. We will be tying in the downspouts, installing dozens of catch basin and inlets plus yard grading and swales. Consider subscribing to our channel so you won’t miss the next videos of us installing this large yard drainage system and other solutions for rain water drainage where you’re not allowed to discharge to the street. Thank you for watching.

    Nice job on getting that piece of sidewalk back in place. When I try to do something like this, every adjustment I make makes it teeter even more. I'm getting frustrated just thinking about it lol. I can't wait to see you do your magic on the backyard. I would have just put boulders around it and turned it into a fish pond = )

      Hi Johli, That's the magic of Dawn's editing - 3rd time's the charm. A nice fish pond would have been awesome and a lot less work. Plus, it was really hot when we did this and a dip in the pond would have been great.

    Great video. I am looking forward to seeing the future ones. I was wondering what the city was going to make you fix the street with. I got my answer for the question.

    Awesome job like always.
    Where do you get the insert a tee fitting?
    Also is it hard to apply for all the necessary permits for opening a road
    Is additional insurance and bonding needed?

      Hi George, The inserta tee is a custom fitting that is made for the pipes you are working with - 24 inch concrete to 4 inch sch. 40. I had a hard time getting the fitting and I had to call ADS. They had their local Rep. call me to order the fitting. There was some extra paperwork for the permits, but nothing crazy. There were 3 inspections and they did require a $2k escrow that they hold in addition to the permit charge. They required 3M in liabity coverage which I had. Thanks, Tom

    Where did you get the tap that you drove into the concert pipe? Brand/Size/Supplier? Thanks!!

      That’s an inserta-tee. You can google it and go to their page to find a local supplier. I had a difficult time during the pandemic. It maybe fine now. They are custom made depending on the pipes you are trying to connect.

    that looks like a 4" inserta tee. i would thought at least a 6" hole should have been installed

      Thank you Richard. A 4 inch inserta tee requires a 4-1/2 inch core. That’s ADS specs. They try to sell you the 4-1/2 drill bit when you buy the fitting.

    what was the purpose of the white pvc fitting going into the insertatee and then the sdr35 pipe going into the pvc fitting. could the sdr 35 goes directly into the insertatee?

    • @tyelandscapinganddrainage
      @tyelandscapinganddrainage  Рік тому +1

      You have to order these fittings for the specific pipe you are working with. They make an inserta tee for sdr35. I wasn't able to get them and only the sch40 version was available. That's why we used a short piece of sch40 and then went to sdr35.

    Nice work on this project! Would it even have been possible to have a solution to this issue if there was no city sewer line to drain to?

      Thank you for your compliment. A chambered dry well was our back up plan if we were unable to connect to the city storm sewer. It would have had to be very large and we gave them an estimate for it. Luckily everything worked out and were did make the connection. Thank you again and have a great evening, Tom

    What kinda city lets you get away with doing that? Thats easy money right there, not all that state approved regulations like in PA.

    What city is this in? Those inserta tees are illegal where I live because they don't enter the pipe through a 45 degree angle in the direction of flow.

    • @tyelandscapinganddrainage
      @tyelandscapinganddrainage  Рік тому +3

      The inserta tee was specified by the engineer in the permit. This was inspected 3 times during process - once when we exposed the pipe to make sure the pipe was sound, again after the hook up was made and then once we closed the hole. Inserta tees are the go to yard drain to storm sewer pipe hook up for every town engineer I have worked with so far.

    • @Pipeleier
      @Pipeleier Рік тому +2

      In New Jersey. In California and other states that use the Uniform Plumbing Code all hot taps and saddle taps made into any drainage system shall enter through a 45 degree (0.79rad) fitting in the direction of flow. I'm just saying that you can do things in New Jersey that cannot be done in other parts of the country.
