I’ve never been crabbing or shrimping. It looks like a lot of fun. Wish I was younger and didn’t have spine issues. I could have gone going along for the ride, and helping to clean the catch.

I agree that you should use fish scraps so nothing goes to waste. Enjoy your videos very much.
We don't like to waste anything. It doesn't make since to buy crab bait If you're catching lots of fish. Crabs are scavengers and will eat any type of meat. We also do a lot of crabbing with shrimp heads from the shrimp we catch trawling.
I love crabbing anyway I can, unfortunately I live to far away to do it, used to live in southwest Louisiana and went to the bayou with string, chicken necks, and a net with a basket, that was a lot of fun with my wife and youngest son, as we dodged the alligators to catch crabs, also would visit my brother in NJ and go crabbing with him with individual small pots, that too was fun, am now 81 years old and am not able to get around anymore. Love eating fresh steamed crabs. Love your channel and enjoy riding along with you and Stephanie on your crab and shrimp ventures.

Thanks. We're probably done with shrimping this year. We were at the point that we weren't catching enough shrimp to keep justifying going. On top of that, we encounter more issues with our shrimp trawl boat. I hope I can strengthen some of the problems out before next year's trawl season.

I was born and raised in South Louisiana and was always told if you use chicken for crabbing, the smellier/stinkier it is the better you’ll do catching crabs. I’ve only been crabbing one time and we left the chicken in a ziplock bag outside for 48 hours before using it. We did catch crabs but were only crabbing off a pier not in the marsh.

In the fire service we had pike poles long poles with a hook on the end. Maybe slide it up and try and hook them down. You would definitely need a smaller version of it.

That’s a common theory but not true. Crabs can be picky eaters. Bait a pot with rotten bait and one with fresh bait and see what works best. The fresh bait will catch 10x the rotten bait. Rotten bait will also draw more small crabs and females.
I've heard plenty of others say, they like letting their chicken set out a couple of days before using it to bait their crab traps. The fish works good fresh or after it's been frozen. Lots of the bait we use has been frozen not rotten. You may be right. Sounds like a test in need. lol.@@joshwheeler3297

Ive crabbed for 30 years plus, crabs are scavengers, they will eat anything..WWe run 900ft trot lines in Kent Narrows , Wye River, ect and use eels, and its the goo to. And for the price, beats chicken. But you can use either and they gonna eat. When we were kids and carp fishing, crabs would get online w corn and shredded wheat

I have a big yellow pot myself which i have to get a license for the season June to oct . It does the same as yours but sometimes does not get any thing in it .I guess may be i should weigh them down ?
Yes, it would help to weigh your traps down to help it stay on the bottom. Our tides here in SC will move traps that aren't weighted making them hard to find.
