- A complete run-through of the Colchester Half Marathon route, the hills, pacing & other points to watch out for around the course. Also, how to prepare yourself.

Some of the most common questions we get from runners about the Colchester Half Marathon (CHM) are about hills - Is it hilly? How bad are they? How can I prepare? Am I going to die?!
Here we give you a video of the whole course from start to finish with commentary from Paul Neville, leader of the CHM Pacing Team.
He points out the main hills, how to approach them, how to prepare for them as well as discussing other features around the course. He gives his pacing advice and we also include a topographical map of the course showing the race profile.
(Note: This video is about the race in Colchester, Essex, UK, not the one over in Connecticut. Has anyone ever run both??)

Thanks for watching 🙏. What are your thoughts and tips for those hills and the race route in general? 🏃
I've run the CHM the last 4 years and I will be running again in 2019 and I must say its very well organised everyone is so friendly and helpful it's a great course I would highly recommend it 😁
Cannot wait for this in May 2022!!
thanks for the video. really useful. mick
Bit late now, but a simple map of the course on the race website would have been useful
Great video. I've ran the half a couple of times (best time about 1hr 40 something) and always enjoy it. North Hill isn't that bad, I think Ipswich Road is probably slightly more difficult as although it's not as steep, it is so long but you do get some breaks as its up and down. I'd like a video on improving Park Run times please if possible. Really want to beat 20 minutes but can't do that even on the flat Harwich course.
I don't care about your hilly problems I just want a map of the roads you're going to be cocking up for the day
