      Piracy has always preserved content and it was widely accepted in the past among consumers. It’s just the 2010s and 2020s has taken to burying that side of the piracy discourse. We need to revise copyright law so when companies do stuff like this, the stuff they write off doesn't belong to the IRS or anything, but they're public domain.
    Edit: Thinking about it, we should also make it so that prototypes of released stuff and abandoned works are considered public domain. Same with works that don't get official releases in the United States and other places. I think Nintendo would be more inclined to release Mother 3 internationally and we'd get more stuff that's not been lost showing up legally.

    • @electrobob992

      Still think they should apply something similar to home owners that can't pay their mortgage, where the bank takes ownership of the house can auction it off.
      But in this case the "home" is the content of either series or movie, while the bank is the IRS.
      Basically if a company writes a show or movie off for a quick buck like this, they lose ALL ownership of it. With said ownership being auctioned off, meanwhile the content would be public domain until it gets auctioned off.
      There NEEDS to be a downside for the company. Sure they get money but WHAT is the downside.
      So far there is NOTHING.

    • @Ness_and_Sonic
      @Ness_and_Sonic 10 місяців тому +2

      @@electrobob992 It would be interesting, but I would think there needs to be things in place to make sure they keep using it legitimately if we go that route. Example, a fee to maintain a copyright past the 10th year that increase as a work gets older. I don't want things to just disappear because the creator doesn't feel like providing it as there's been plenty of things that don't see the light of day or have been MIA for some time. Mother 3 in English, Bubsy (vanished for over a decade after that PS1 game), the Dinosaur Planet prototype, Go! Go! Hypergrind, etc. And those are just video games.

    Calm down, Vail.
    The majority of Nickelodeon’s old shows still and always will exist. The only truly lost shows are from the first few years, and a couple later stragglers. Even recent rarities like Noah Knows Best and Whoopi’s Littleburg survive in full.
    After countless hours of research, I am confident Nickelodeon has not “deleted” (aka wiped) their legacy content since the hour-long Eureeka’s Castle episodes were given the ol’ heave-ho. Even a vast majority of their old commercial/promo material still survives.
    Removing them from streaming is not deleting them from existence. They’re just unavailable to watch on a particular platform, but they’re well protected and in zero danger of spontaneously ceasing to exist.

    • @Commenter839
      @Commenter839 10 місяців тому +1

      I mean for starters, there are plenty of people who enjoy Nickelodeon's newer shows. Rise of the TMNT is one of my favorite shows from the network, and that's from around the same time as It's Pony. And removing the newer shows is arguably *worse*, since many of these shows never got a physical release and could very well become lost media.
      And it sets a bad precedent for these companies to start removing all means of watching a show just for a tax write-off. People worked hard on those shows, people enjoy those shows, and it's just going to encourage piracy. Today they're removing It's Pony and Ollie's Pack, who knows if someday they'll move to removing stuff like El Tigre and My Life as a Teenage Robot

    • @CDCB2
      @CDCB2 10 місяців тому

      @@Commenter839The shows are all well-preserved in Nick’s archives, so they aren’t in any danger of becoming lost. Unavailable to the public, sure, but not lost. Nickelodeon is not “deleting” their shows.

    • @Commenter839
      @Commenter839 10 місяців тому

      @@CDCB2 Maybe "lost" isn't the best term, but to the average person, that's just semantics.
