One thing I have never understood why anyone would give out their call sign on UA-cam, have it on their license plates/window sticker, or at non ham related places. It screams something like "Hi my name is Brad A Kennelly and I live at 3943 Fox Creek Dr. in Kingwood TX and if you see me driving around, you know I'm not home please come rob me". That being said, image that... my call sign is KG5SYM too... what are the odds? Discovered your channel when I got UV-5R for my work. Some other guys bought their own. Needless to say, I looked into the radio on UA-cam, found your content, and I am now getting edumacated through you and another channel. Went out and bought this radio right after this video. Best radio purchase I’ve made. Yeah, the BTech GMRS V2 is a little easier to use. But, daaaaang, this radio can just do about anything! For us bootleggers out there.
AR-152 is certainly badass, but my issue with it is it's not entirely clear how dust and water resistant it is. I ended up getting a UV-9R Pro because it still does 8W but seems to be much more hardened against water and dust. Not nearly as big or has as big of a screen, but its profile is very similar to a UV-5R and it fits into most radio-specific MOLLE pouches quite nicely.
So, I’ve had this radio for maybe a month now. This thing is a beast. And forget what wfjifcy, or whatever his name is, says. It isn’t a toy Walkie. I’ve used those toys, and this is head and shoulders above. I can hit a repeater, and talk through it, that is at least 8 miles away, through trees on the east coast. Heavy tree cover. But not with the stock antenna. I had to put the Nagoya on. But mid conversation. The stock was working, barely, at that range. The Nagoya cleared up reception on the other end quite well. It’s heavy, so better for non-hiking. But dang… it certainly works.
Been watching your videos for a while as I work into this fascinating world of ham radios. Always wanted to as a kid (in the 80's), but never had the chance. I listen a lot before talking, and I'm glad for that. There were many times watching where I was confused on what you were saying, until I learned enough basic knowledge of the craft to get all your humor. Once I did learn, I rewatched a few vids, and wound up laughing until I cried. Still all the great info, but now I can enjoy the humor (and the digs at the system) to a much better extent. I just wanted to say Thank You. Both for the information, and for the enjoyment while learning it.
Another excellent review of another very acceptable and affordable radio. Thanks. Many moons ago, I was an infantryman, radio-telephone intercept operator, and electronic warfare technician in the military by job classification. So I rarely TX, mostly RX, & never met a HAM I could tolerate for very long or take very seriously. So I enjoy your dry wit and constant trolling of the licensed AMATEUR radio operators. Keep up the good work!
I had held my nose and pained over the price, as I bought this radio with its expanded pack of doohinguses before seeing this video (it's due to arrive in a couple of days)...Now, I don't feel bad at the price, and am excited to receive the gear.
I'm pretty sure the green one in the thumbnail is the one that is in the movie Oblivion, whenever he detects a signal being beamed into space he goes to the tower opens the relay box and inside is this radio Well I don't know if it's this exact radio but it looks exactly like it
I'm a licensed ham, and I think it's great that you talk about them. Personally I don't care if you even use it. Just don't let the FCC catch you. 😂 I'm not a lawyer but it's understanding that, in an emergency situation ANYONE can use a radio on ANY frequency to get help regardless of their license status to get help.
No, an "emergency" doesn't allow that. There must be imminent threat to life and property. Realistically speaking, a HT, regardless of power level, will be pretty useless for anything but short range communication, like chicken hawks running around in the woods playing Army. Baofeng and other companies recognize the fact that the "shtf" people are easy marks for this type of marketing. Cool-looking radio, though, and that should appeal to the wannabes.
Hilarious and informative as always, thank you. appears to be more robust than the 5R but time and testing will tell, does have the distinct advantages of being unlocked, and mega battery !
Your review came up when I fat fingered a search for the ARC-159 UHF/VHF radio I used to stuff into the consoles of A6 Intruders back in the late 80s. I think they were 25w radios, but could have been only 8w or 10w (which is why I was looking them up). Enjoyed the review and it made this not-so-sad old ham laugh.
Don't listen to jealous people, do what you do, excellent job! I love your channel, you have a funny way to talk with hands, and your reviews are valuable for anyone. Whoever doesn't see that, it's just jealousy.

I’d think the only attraction of this radio is that it looks like the Harris Military ‘whatever the model number is’… really bulky for something that’s bug-out!

As I already had the UV 5R 8W I thought the AR-152 might be cool as well. I did order a set of these and then I returned them after about a week and got the UV 21R. I loved the huge battery but the size of the radio for me offset it enough that it was not for me.
hi its jamie from the uk, i ordered it through the link on amazon, (green ) with a shoulder mic, ( to get the chicks) the other hys radios you recomended, H Y S 25 watts work brilliant as well , transmited about 7.5 /8 miles here in uk, to my mates house, no repeaters, came through with strong signal, also gonna order raddy rf320 , great channel , highly recomended to other you tube viewers, great guy knows his stuff, love the humour too , i have a very sarcastic sense of humour , and i appreciate yours
I’ve had one of these radios for a bit and i really like it. Watching this i was like oh i didn’t know those two buttons were programma… oh. Great vid as always
I absolutely love your videos! You’re soooo funny!!!! And the way you say “boof-wang” is hysterical!😂😂 You say it that way just to get a rise from the sad hams! I’ve had my technician license since 2017 and I’ve NEVER talked to anyone ever here in Northwest Oregon. I personally think amateur radio is dead and buried! And the ham radio that the sad hams say is still alive is for senior citizens late at night or for those boring weekend groups. I own the Boofwang UV-82HP and the UV-5R which are sweet little radios if someone actually responded to my shoutouts. The antennas I purchased for them costs more than the Boofwangs! Last month I purchased my GMRS license and bought two Boofwang GM-15 Pro radios, one for my wife and one for me. But I tried reaching out to touch someone but just like vhf uhf radio, GMRS radio seems pretty dead here in the Pacific Northwest. That radio you’re reviewing looks sweet and I would definitely use it for ham and GMRS frequencies but it’s pretty pointless if you’re the only one using it.
This radio is honestly the best bang for your buck....the battery last FOREVER with an abree antenna we get people talking 75 miles out. But thats just our opinion.....
13:20, if you match impedance of radio, cable and antenna. All the power will be radiated at the antenna. At least at the antennas characteristic frequency.
My opinion of boof wang radios have changed since coming to your channel. Having been a yeasu guy and still am, I’m seeing the value in these especially for a team of guys. Price and other features I think offsets the chinglish manuals and quality and if treated well they will be fine field radios. Especially if you have backups.
Of course you don't have a ham license.

Charge that battery on New Year's Eve; talk all next year!
Hey. Some of us hams go both ways…
I do Ham, GMRS, and other “radio dork” services.
I’ve loved all things radio since the ‘70’s. Do what makes you happy.
Finally a thicc, girthy radio I can use for Celebration!
The Boof fwang UV-10 R also self-identifies as that BF-F8HP for anyone who bought one it took me an hour to find that out.
Noooooo, the bent pencil tip of enlightenment is GONE!!!
Thanks for review. I love this radio concept. When this radio is made in water resistant model I will buy them.
Get the Baofeng AR-152 radio from the Brushbeater store here:

@6:18 Great Msg.
Oh, Thank you for all of your fine videos. Thank you.
My wife is always telling me to control my spurious emissions. My FWB encourages it.
For SHTF I want the most versatile unit. If thing’s get bad enough the FCC won’t factor into what frequency I transmit on.
I have no idea how I came across this channel BUT I love it. I am sitting here on a Sunday morning laughing my ass off at the antics.
Nice to see the number back for the thumbs up, to see how many have like it. Of course that doesn't matter much.....so long as you end with the Roger beep.
Your description of antenna feed line loss is both accurate and hysterical. Proff sometimes climbing a tree can be better than hanging feedline of a perfect rf radiating device.
Anyone can ask me whom I trust to give me accurate information on 2 way radios...not to mention entertaining me at the same time. I will always answer 'That would be Randy, at Notarubicon!". I too, speak sarcasm very fluently, and thus, nothing is lost in translation. Thanks for doing what you do Randy! Terry
Hi out there ! I’m new in the world of radio’s other than CB 😞😂 .I have a UV5R that I like very much and trying to learn how to use it . I love your video’s please keep them going , learning a lot from you ! P.s. the humor is great !!don’t change a thing !!! class act delivery’s on it !!!!!!!!!!
Bravo........cb ......the best u have is the one u have.........me cheap baofeng handheld......and a .....yaesu hf. ft-1000mp......best of both worlds.....hats off to u........great work.....cheers
Sorry Rubicon , my recent rant may have been too over the top.
You rock brau,
We all love your videos.
Your entertaining rhetoric help de -stress regular ppl and preppers a like.
Consider checking out the TRI and TCA versions of the PRC-148 and PRC-152. They have some pretty interesting features and are far more than just a “baofeng in a fancy case” as many self proclaimed internet experts decry!
Love the disclaimer you put
The untold tension between this man and his radios. He has many secrets to share (sarcastically of course)
Thank you for your videos. I truly have learned allot and appreciate 🙏 you and your work
Thank YOU!
Great intro and you are absolutely correct.
AR for Armalite Radio 📻. I watched for the knowledge and stay for the entertainment. Love your content, man.
Eugene Stoner helped design it
As I already had the UV 5R 8W I thought the AR-152 might be cool as well.
Happy to see it was unlocked. Will make the purchase. Thanks for the info.
I’ve had one of these radios for a bit and i really like it. Watching this i was like oh i didn’t know those two buttons were programma… oh. Great vid as always
Im know almost know nothing about radios so please excuse the ignorance behind my question-can you communicate with this to a baofeng UV-5R?
Yes.
I have paired this with the TID Bluetooth Programmer and it works great in the field! For a large radio it lasts me days in the field.
Awesome channel. Straight to the point, some humor, all truth. Nice work.
Keep doing what you do! I enjoy your videos and have bought several Baofeng radios and enjoy using them.
This radio is honestly the best bang for your buck....the battery last FOREVER
with an abree antenna we get people talking 75 miles out. But thats just our opinion.....
13:20, if you match impedance of radio, cable and antenna. All the power will be radiated at the antenna. At least at the antennas characteristic frequency.
Happy ham here. I ordered one of these. So nice I love the big radio and I like the looks I get using it. More buffwang reviews please. Rodger beep.
Best review yet. However, I primarily come here to see the latest state of the graphite pointing device.
I love that tacti-cool peanut butter color. Can be used as a convenient snack in adverse conditions.
My opinion of boof wang radios have changed since coming to your channel. Having been a yeasu guy and still am, I’m seeing the value in these especially for a team of guys. Price and other features I think offsets the chinglish manuals and quality and if treated well they will be fine field radios. Especially if you have backups.
I don’t even like ham radios but I went and bought one because your videos are awesome. Keep it up man and let the sad Hams be sad.
