I’m glad to be a Doc here on Camp Geiger/New River, can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can utilize the marina more. Very informative and precise introduction to the base and local area.
USMC 64 -- 68. I was stationed at Camp Lejeune, Charlie Co. 1/6 Weapons Platoon from June 64 to late February 65. ( I got orders to that place called Vietnam ). I have been over to New River a few times and it was not anything at all like this. Nowhere near it.
Was with MALS-29 from '90-'93. Was stationed at Cherry Point and Quantico prior to that. Despite being no where near as fancy or modern, NR was my favorite duty station.
My 1st duty station as I arrived in December. 1972 fresh out Foodservice schools Camp Johnson. Assigned to H&HS. I worked in messhall 226 and 4012. Made 2 Med. Floats 1973 Middle East Conflict and then 1975. We never had much to do there or the facilities that are there today.
1983,1984,1985. Our remote nonaviation shop had port-o-potty services. Every new fiscal year, funding for weekly pump needed to be re-contracted. Needles to say...
Roger that. I happen to be PCS to main but the necessary unit vehicles were 2 tractor trailers right down the road from the Comm school telephone poles. This place was on the back side of Geiger. The front side was against the street call "The 2d front". It was a bare minimum DUMP compared to the video now, which is why everyone want to leave the place right after they checked in. The THEN gate was a 2 lane road guard shack taking you directly to 3 stripper bars that got old quick; Tobies, etc.
I had a few Brothers and New River Air Station. said it was Heaven on Earth for Marines
was back in 1980
A lot different from when I lived there in the 70's.

I was RAD at New River on Jan. 18, 1972. There have been many changes since then.
I was stationed across the way at Lejeune
