Hi guys. Quick question. I am trying to transfer a pic to wood. I tried several mod podges including the "Photo transfer medium. Is this supposed to be so thick ?? Should it be good to try the other one - Clear Image Transfer?
I’m getting conflicting advice about using an inkjet printer with inkjet waterslide photo paper copies. Does it work or not? I can’t find anyone with a laser copier, not even UPS.
Yes....watch Our Upcycled life channel. You can use an inkjet and regular mod podge, you don't need this special mod podge, that probably costs more. Our Upcycled life has several videos where she does this. She usually uses a laser printer, however, she does do a few videos on using an ink jet printer. She calls it "reverse transfer" if you search that several videos should pop up, just put in, "reverse transfer method ink jet printer." It is called reverse transfer because you have to reverse or mirror your image, before printing, if it has words on it.....meaning the words will look like they are backwards, when you print it. Now, I know the inkjet gives you a more rustic look, it isn't quite as dark, but it is still beautiful. I am not sure if you could seal the image first, with a clear spray....like a Rustoleum clear spray or not. There is another way to transfer an image using an inkjet and wax paper, there is a video on Cristine Elizabeth's channel. Then, you won't have the glue residue left behind. Those two channels should help you and I know that Our Upcycled life channel is very useful for saving money. She has some really great videos for that.
Hi Molly, all of our specialty formulas are similarly priced, and when doing any transfer you usually need to reverse the image, especially if there is text.
Havnt left a comment on UA-cam in 10 years, but it really bothers me that it took you 6 mins to get to the tutorial part of the video during a tutorial 😂 a 30 min video really? Y’all are a joke
Thank you! I realize that probably seemed like a dumb question to begin with, but I've never used these things and I have never been a crafter. I've just recently become interested in trying this. I appreciate your quick reply!
SOOOOOO< I use the regular MOD PODGE with INK JET. And uh oh, it seems to work. You need to make sure the picture is very pigmented. But it does work. It’s faded a little bit so the picture isnt vibrant. But it does look nice.
Team Julie’s Triple Cs cancer crafts and crops Thanks Julie. I was really bummed thinking that my printer wouldn’t work. Stuck inside now so going to the print shop isn’t an option.
Yes, I thought this was going to be something special, but you can just use regular mod podge, you don't have to buy some special product that probably costs more. 🙄 Watch Our Up-cycles Life channel, she does it both ways, with regular decoupage glue. I believe you can even do it with a polyacrylic or polyurethane.
Love this tutorial! Question, on the wood transfer with mod podge photo transfer gel medium project. Do you seal it with the same formula or regular mod podge?
Could you please share a video on transferring a copy to glass? I used the original Mod Podge transfer formula for transferring to glass and it did nothing. I let the picture dry overnight on the glass. Was that incorrect? It was an inkjet copier.
Question do you guys seal the photo transfer on wood and or fabric and if you do which one do you use???? May I use the antique finish or mate finish???
@Plaid Crafts I am trying to transfer a color copy to a wooden toy chest. Should I paint it first if so what is the best color to paint the wood in order for all the colors to transfer and be visible? And should I use the water based mod pog
Yes you should paint first. If you use the original photo transfer medium it will have a white background and will not matter the color that is printed below it. If you use the new Image Transfer medium, it dries clear and the color will depend on the image you are trying to transfer. You may do a small test before doing the full item to see if it will turn out the way you vision. This article explains the two different formulas - plaidonline.com/phototransfer
Question..I hand painted a wood sign, I also did some wood burning on this sign plus I am going to ad a regular lab printed picture on it as well... I am using the Mod Podge in the blue label that says super gloss brillant (one coat finish) can I brush this product on the back of the picture to secure it in place...and then brush the whole wood piece (including over the picture) to finish it? thanks for your help!
Can I add a finishing of some sort, maybe a glossy coat or something to protect the art work and also make it look glossy. Although I'm thinking one might not always want a glossy look, but is there something one can apply to the surface to protect the art work ( I feel it can be scratched off if I don't) Do you have any suggestions ??
Thanks for the tips. If that's your husband, sweetie, he's gay. But you probably aready know that. Anyway, how can transfer with regular Modge Podge and what's the difference between regular Modge Podge matte and the satin finish?
Hey, I want to do a photo transfer to a coffee mug. Will that work or will it melt from the heat or come off when I wash it? I saw something about top coating things. What is that?
just found you loved all the info. I'm a crafter and a photographer always wanted to put my photos on a shower curtain if you know how i would do that let me know. Getting my mojo back
Take the paper off in stages. If the photo transfer gets too wet it will rub on the image. Rub lightly on the image. When all the paper appears to be gone, let dry and keep repeating the step. If you try to take off all the paper at once it will remove the image.
I did too MCMillan. I would like to see more demonstration maybe less talk. I don't mean to be disrespectful so please don't be upset. You two are a beautiful couple and your work is beautiful. God bless you.
If you go to an office supply store most color copies are the dry toner or if it's an image from a computer file and you have them print it out, it's a dry toner image that can be used.
@@plaidcrafts I am trying to transfer a color copy to a wooden toy chest. Should I paint it first if so what is the best color to paint the wood in order for all the colors to transfer and be visible? And should I use the water based mod pog
The best product to use when a glittered effect is desired on fabric is not a Mod Podge product but our new Fabric Creations Fantasy Glitter. This product is developed for use on fabric only, is water-based, will dry soft and flexible and seals the glitter to the surface. There are 19 colors available in Fantasy Glitter. You can find it here on our website: plaidonline.com/brands/fabric-creations and here is an example of glittered shoes using Fabric Creations Fantasy Glitter: plaidonline.com/projects/diy-glitter-shoes And best of all, once Fantasy Glitter has been heat set, it is permanent and washable!
@@plaidcrafts can we use the same photo transfer medium mod podge to finish the product as well or just leave it like that after rubbing the paper off??
There could be paper still on the image. It's important to rub the paper off until It appears gone. let try and continue the process. This also will prevent any damage to the image while removing the paper. If the medium is wet for a long period of time it can be damaged or removed.
Can anyone tell me if you can do a “transfer” or just adding it to a wood pallets ... can the paper be canvas . Recently purchased canvas picture on amazon , and would like to do apply it to a pallet?
R B, could you put the canvas picture on your copier and then obtain an inkjet copy of it? I have the same situation. It probably won't give a crisp, sharp image, but the result may be interesting.
I have a inkjet printer and do these kinds of projects and my images come out just fine and colorful. It doesn’t have to be a laser printer.
oh thanks because thats the only color one i have
did you regular mod poge or picture transfer mod poge
Thanks, that is all I have, too. I wonder if you can spray a matte finish on it first, like a clear Rustoleum spray, if it would work.
Y'all did a great job explaining how to transfer images 👍👍👍 way to go 👏👏👏

Where do you get your transfers like the bike on the small chest
awwwww I just adore you guys, I love your videos, y'all keep enjoying your diys!!!
Thank you! Will do!
Can you spray the clear acrylic spray on your wood photo transfer after using your last mod podge ( dry )
Do you guys varnish your projects after you finish?

Oh, I thought we’re going to see how to do the pictured item.
please share a video on crafts and uses with different types of mod podge , would love to learn more :)
Ink jet works if u cure it Overnite and spray with a sealer
Where could I get a big picture later printed
Yes l am confuse
LOL! I'm quite sure Plaid owns a computer and printer and they didn't go to their local copy shop.
Can transfers be layered? Or can you decoupage under a photo transfer?
What would I use if I want to transfer a napkin photo onto a mobile home door to make it shine?
Do one by one like transfer for fabric Do that first or other things
Can you paint over the top of the clear photo transfer formula Mod Podge with say acrylic paint of spray paint??? THANKS
Yes you can do both

Is there a clear craft product that can be applied over the finished product that seals it and allows for a light surface cleaning?
You can seal it with an acrylic spray sealer

What is a transfer medium
No "card stock" paper.

For b&w prints, can alcohol inks be used to color the print and then coat and do the transfer? Will the alcohol ink color transfer, too?
she needs to stop interrupting while you speak. its very distracting
After you complete the transfer on the fabric do you seal it with more image transfer product?
Hi can you us the classic photo transfer on cups & mugs ?
If you transfer on ceramic or class we recommend using the decal method and not doing it directly to the cup.
but what about dishwasher safe

Super Gloss is a top coat, we would recommend using Mod Podge gloss to adhere it and use the super gloss on top

Yes you can seal with Mod Podge Hard Coat or a Spray Acrylic sealer to offer more protection and give you a glossy finish.
This are the singles mod podge for photo transfer? What about the yellow one for glass?
I luv his Yankee accent!❤️
How about using this to transfer a laser image onto polymer clay? Should the clay be baked first?
Hi Jane, yes for any of our products the clay should be baked first when using polymer clay.
At the end... do you seal it???
Thanks for the tips. If that's your husband, sweetie, he's gay. But you probably aready know that. Anyway, how can transfer with regular Modge Podge and what's the difference between regular Modge Podge matte and the satin finish?
We don't recommend using regular Mod Podge, Photo Transfer is specifically designed to transfer the image.
Heidi Svenson - Wow that wasn’t necessary.
I'm in love with Mod Podge! :)

We don't recommend doing on an item that you want to wash such as a mug.
Hi great video. Can you do a color photo transfer onto a dark gray or black dresser?
I want this answer also!
can the product be used with inject transfers?
Did you mean inkjet transfer? We don't recommend using it with inkjet prints. We recommend a dry toner/laser print or copy
Can you use the clear photo transfer on a piece of furniture that has stain on it?
Can this technique be used on cork fabric?
just found you loved all the info. I'm a crafter and a photographer always wanted to put my photos on a shower curtain if you know how i would do that let me know. Getting my mojo back
You can use Photo Transfer on rigid plastic but it wouldn't work as well on a shower curtain.
After you finish rubbing the paper off, do you use regular mod podge on top of photo?
You can or use an Acrylic sealer
So cool. I'd love to take classes. Where??
Is the varnish paint after the transfer process for easy cleaning or this is not necessary ?
You can use varnish to seal the piece after. If it's for decorative purposes you may not need to seal it.
How do u transfer photo on acrylic disks?
We don't recommend Acrylic Disks, it's made for wood, canvas, terra cotta, metal, and fabric
Mod podge = expensive ova glue

Can photo transfer go on Ceramic Tiles?
Yes you can do it on ceramic tiles. You will need to top coat the photo transfer
Doreen R, I'm interested in finding this out as well.

Why do you have to copy the scrapbook paper?
scrapbook paper is thicker and has a different method of printing. A copy on a dry toner works best
