The LA Coliseum renovation looks so out place and doesn't even look centered. Unless they plan to expand to that entire side of the stadium or replicate the same structure on the opposite side it looks unfinished. But even then, you're just going to get a soldier field west.
Not to mention a bunch of seats (which probably weren’t really used all that much anyways) are completed obstructed. Look it up, that new luxury box completely blocks a bunch of the seats closer to its side. Like, you can’t even see the other end of the field at all. Should’ve just took all of them out…
@@sevenred2740 I don't think USC is particularly concerned with obstructed seats. They leased the stadium for 99 years and are responsible for renovations and upkeep which they'll partly subsidize with club seats, suites, and subletting it to the LA Olympic Committee.

If Fenway Park is on the list, Wrigley Field in Chicago definitely needs to be on the list. What a miss. Wrigley has hosted baseball, football and hockey among other events.
Wrigley Field once held the record for most games hosted by the bears since they really only played 5 games ever at Soldier Field before 1971 and one of those was a designated road game against the Chicago Cardinals which meant they played a road game in their future home stadium.

It's had baseball, Pope John Paul II, two annual bowl games (Sugar and New Orleans), the Bayou Classic between Grambling and Southern U., and the Louisiana high school football championships, among other events. The Olympiastadion's heydays are over but it's still an important venue for concerts. I haven't been to a concert there but the acoustics is said to be very good there.
But the stadium itself wasn't very popular as far as I remember. You were far away from the pitch and exposed to the weather. Plus there wasn't much noise kept inside the stadium.
Kingdome in Seattle is badly underrated when talking about stuff like this.
1978 and 1979 NBA Finals, NCAA Final Four three times ('84, '89 and '95), 1979 MLB All-Star Game, 1976 NFL Pro Bowl.
Rolling Stones multiple times, Led Zeppelin The Beach Boys, U2, Paul McCartney, Van Halen... Tons of big music acts.
for a 24 year life the Kingdome had some amazing stuff
Imagine the Seahawks having the Legion of Boom playing in a domed stadium, they would give to Lynch at the 1
You should do an Australian Baseball League video⚾️🦘
Great Video! One correction: There was no WC in 1950. The final round was a round Robin format, Maracana merely hosted the last game
Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Stade de France in Saint Denis, France.
Wembley Stadium in London, England.
La Bombonera in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.
Estadio Santiago Bernebeu in Madrid, Spain.
Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
There are lots of iconic stadiums in the world
I have to think Vegas having an NFL team now means it'll surpass New Orleans as their go-to Super Bowl destination
I feel like it's two different tastes. One offers The Strip, the other Bourbon Street. One is the gaming capital of the world, the other is the most festive city in the US.
Probably not (?) THe Capacity isnt as high as they would like, but it will see some eventually.
You forgot, LA Memorial Coliseum will host 2022 Busch Clash, Nascar all star racing on my birthday. Also, put AHL and ECHL arenas for next video.
I now read that the 2028 Opening Ceremonies in LA will now take place at Sofi Stadium, but there may be some other role for the Coliseum for those Games. (Closing Cermony? Marathon?) Doesn't change it's importance in both sports and California history, though.
I saw that the plan is for the ceremony to be at both stadiums. Parts in one and another. I think the opening will have the final leg of the torch relay starting at the LA Coliseum and ending in SoFi, and the closing to be the other way around. Crowds to be at SoFi for the opening and LA Coliseum for the closing. It's pending the IOC approval though.
The LA Coliseum will host the non-field athletic events in the first rounds and all athletic finals (including three of the four field events: discus, javelin and hammer. First rounds to those at Banc of California Stadium)
@@otaviofrn_adv The IOC approval would not be necessary for torch bearers to run through an empty Coliseum. The LA Olympic Organizing Committee wants both stadiums full for the Opening Ceremonies.
The missing elephant in the room is Wembley
World Cup finals , Olympics , euro championship finals , champions league finals fa cup finals and many other footie games, Rugby league challenge cups , Rugby Union World Cups and club games , the always interesting 🤜 Army v Navy game and Varsity games , greyhound racing , speedway , hurling , boxing , NFL games , Jacksonville Jags games (there is a difference 😂)
The defence rests your honour!
Well, I was only including stadiums that are still around today. And since the new Wembley is a completely different stadium, I didn't think the achievements of the old Wembley should be counted towards it.
@@TheWideWorldofStadiums
Well I did think that and if that was the case then there is only a few on the list to come off so it still would have a huge cv
But I also left them all in as I saw the Maracana and the MCG were in your list and both of those have a similar story to Wembley don’t they ?
I guess you could use the same logic for Yankee Stadium
The roof of Olympiastadion Munich was actually not inspired by a circus tent.
The architect was experimenting with the nylons of his wife and some wooden sticks underneath them in order find a roof that forms a paraboloid (maybe I got the English expression here wrong), which is most efficient and needs the least structural support ;)
You should make a video on Missouri Valley Conference stadiums
Don’t forget Fennway was also where Godzilla and King Gedora had their fight for the control of the earth in 2019.
The Ceasars Superdome in New Orleans isn't the only stadium on the list with a commercial name... there's also the Allianz Arena in Munich, named after a large insurance company.
The HHH Metronome should be on the list. $55 million to build. Two World Series, MLB All Star Game, one NBA regular season, two NCAA Final Fours (and several regional finals), one Super Bowl, and three unbreakable NFL records.
Someday, hopefully MCG will host a football match where Australia will beat England. 😁
Since the one where it happened, Upton Park, has since been demolished
the LA coliseum will also host a NASCAR race inside the stadium next year, looks crazy how small the track will be.
check out bowman grey stadium crazy small but it works puts on some great racing an is called the mad house
Could you do Top 14 french rugby stadiums next?
Have you done one that features stadiums that have hosted more than 3,4 or multiple different sports....???
other overachieving stadiums:
stade de france (olympics, world cup final, euro final)
soldier field (pan am games, world cup opening ceremony, various other events)
old wembley stadium (olympics, euro final, world cup final)
Berlin olympiastadion (similar to munich's only berlin's is still mainly used)
san siro (winter olympics opening ceremony, world cup opening ceremony, various other soccer matches)
ANZ stadium (olympics, asian cup final, many other sports)
Khalifa international stadium (world cup, asian games final, asian cup final)
estadio nacional de chile (copa america finals, world cup final, pan am games)
estadio azteca has also done NFL, concacaf champions league final, a copa libertadores final and a pan am games opening ceremony
In MCG Part , You Missed One Thing,
Hosted 2 Cricket World Cup Finals ( 1992 And 2015 )
@@knutthompson7879 1992 Pakistan beat England
Hard Rock Stadium (Joe Robbie) hosted Not just the Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes BUT:
-6 Super Bowls,
-2 World Series (Baseball)
5- National College Football championships
1-World Baseball championship
-2 WrestleManias!
Polish PGE Narodowy with its record of biggest crowd on... volleyball match
The LA Coliseum just hosted a Nascar race earlier this year.
Do "The Sun" conference stadiums next please
LA coliseum is under a little bit more reno and will actually be hosting a NASCAR race in it at the beginning of next year
The LA Coliseum renovation looks so out place and doesn't even look centered.
The Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Has hosted regular season games for MLB, NBA, CFL and even a few NFL games. It hosted the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2015 Pan-American Games.
Has also hosted WWE WrestleMania twice, UFC, most of the biggest musical groups in the world have hosted concerts there. I remember being there in 2012 when David Beckham had an absolute bitch-fit meltdown in the CONCACAF Champions League.
I remember in high school skipping class to go there and listen to Nelson Mandela speak. The Dalai Lama has also hosted a massive speaking event there.
I think Hard Rock Stadium belongs here. 1997 and 2003 World Series, numerous Super Bowls, the annual Orange Bowl now and national championship games
Eden park in NZ is the worlds most overachieving stadium in the world. 2 RWC finals and many other big games. But the most overachieving thing about it is big cricket games that it really has no rights to host due to its dimensions.
Munich stadium looks allot like the Denver Co. international airports terminals roof....
As iconic as the Superdome is, it is most recognized NOW as the place where many took shelter during and after Hurricane Katrina.
The LA Giltins of Major League Rugby play at the Memorial Colaseum
Luzhniki!
- Hockey World Championship 1957 (record attendance 55,000)
- Summer Universiade 1973
- Spartakiad
- Olympics 1980
- Stampede 1982
- Friendship Games 1984 (Olympic boycott)
- Goodwill Games 1986
- UEFA Cup final 1999
- Champions League final 2008
- World Athletics Championship 2013
- Rugby 7s World Cup 2013
- FIFA World Cup 2018
How about Montreal’s Olympic Stadium… as in overachieving in waste!
Ah it’s good to see Wide is getting up for the Ashes with a bit of Pom bashing !
As a proud Pom myself I can attest to the fact that as a nation we have a lot sporting rivalries with many nations but when it comes to our dear mates down under , which sports matter ? …..all of em !!!
Lucas Oil Stadium? Super Bowl, NFL combine yearly, Big Ten football champions yearly, College football championship, multiple NCAA Final Fours
Frank Sinatra sang to 180,000 people at Maracana in 1980.
And strangely, Michigan Stadium did not make the cut to host matches in the 1994 World Cup or the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
Michigan stadium is full of metal bleachers, which doesn't really meet the standards for a modern World Cup stadium. Also the field dimensions for soccer there are incredibly narrow and also not up to World Cup standards.
It's hard to beat Estadio Azteca as far as football is concerned but Foro Sol is for me an overachiever Stadium. Its main use is baseball, but is also utilized for concerts and even Formula One races as its adjacent to Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez
You mean the f1 track runs through the stadium
Olympics Munich stadium next year will becomes host 2022 European atletics championship
HHH Metrodome should be on part 2.
How about the Worlds oldest International football (soccer) stadium?
Wrexham FC.
The LA Coliseum is also the home of the reigning Major League Rugby Champions, the LA Giltinis
Sounds like a cocktail!
Waiter I’ll have a Long Island iced tea and the missus will have a LA Giltini please good man
@@toogyman it’s a martini named after the owner
Moscow Luzhniki stadium?
Don't understand all the covered seats at the coliseum with a great view?? Esteca needs a refurb before the World Cup in a few years.
The LA Coliseum will also host NASCAR next year
There are some horrible site lines in the refurbished LA Coliseum.
How about doing AHL Arenas.
In 2013 there was a football match where england(liverpool) beat Aus (Melbourne victory)😂 infrount of 95k people
As someone who has been to the Superdome twice, I was getting more upset by the second that you weren’t mentioning the stadium that sheltered citizens during Hurricane Katrina and hosted 7 Super Bowls, but then you mentioned it and I’m happy now. Such an iconic stadium for such a terrible football team 😂
The Superdome also hosted several Final Fours and an NBA team, the New Orleans Jazz until they moved to Utah. It's had baseball, Pope John Paul II, two annual bowl games (Sugar and New Orleans), the Bayou Classic between Grambling and Southern U., and the Louisiana high school football championships, among other events. And a Mardi Gras parade (Endymion) passes through it. Because of the close water table in New Orleans, the field of play is at street level, whereas most other stadiums are excavated.
@@gregsells8549 You made me think about here in South Florida with the high water table where we have Hard Rock Stadium that has hosted the World Series, the Super Bowl, the Orange Bowl, World Cup Soccer, the Dolphins, the Marlins, the Hurricanes and both FAU and FIU football. The Dolphins pay far more in property taxes than any NFL team pays to lease a publicly owned stadium.
Hampden Park. Personally don't like it but it holds every European attendance record and it's a mile from my house
How about Wembley?
The old Wembley, hosted the 1948 Olympics, the 1966 World Cup final, the final of the 1996 Euros, at least 2 European Cup finals, numerous soccer internationals, FA Cup finals, League Cup finals, Rugby League Challenge Cup finals, Rugby Union and Rugby League internationals etc. Way ahead of those on the list.
@@MrDavidht I know, that is why I mentioned Wembley! Also, I believe this new Wembley stadium is also way ahead in this short time period! This New Wembley stadium is not even 20 years old and hosted lots of important events already!
Wembley stadium also want in this list
I get the feeling England gets bent over by those from down under quite alot..... 😆
Now do underachivers
Any suggestions?
