Hey Phil that had me shouting at the screen then never stand over the spring if it slips it will take your head clean off. We call them spring clamps widow makers stay safe
Phil, as has been mentioned, never stand above the spring like you did. Also you way over tightened the spring, you are lucky yo did not snap it. Put the compressors on and slowly, slowly tighten equally on both side; not like you did.. The aim is to take up the load of the spring, not to compress it to much. Cheers
DeWalt tools are well rated and should save you a lot of time and effort. Would agree with the comments about caution when working on suspension struts and getting some axle stands - I always use them every time I have to raise my car to do a job and I only do a fraction of the work you do!
Little tip Phil , when working on front suspension , jack both sides up then you are not fighting with the anti roll bar pushing up on the shocker , that's why it didn't move when top mount undone, always be careful doing spring compressions , clamps can and do jump round , very dangerous nowadays , I have 3 different special clamping stations for suspension legs and it is still scarey, dont stand over top of strut when loosening top nut ,I always put a strap around the spring when in stand , if it slips out it only jumps a out 4 inches , not all over workshop , taking windows out and breaking fingers or worse , next purchase please axle stands, I know you use wheels under car , but safety first , great repair , dont we love droplinks , I did discs and pads x 4 on a 2015 civic 2.2 diesel today , took longer to get the 8 disc retaining screws out than all the rest of the job , had to warm up with plumbers torch , yellow map gas and got out my 35 yr old impact driver with a screwdriver adapter on and many taps later came undone , nicely greased , and back on car with new shiny discs and pads
Scary job with those little spring compressors it's like a loaded gun haha, I'm gunna get myself some of those.. Great vid.. Your literally doing my dream job
Aside from the spring compressor comments that people have said. It would be great to see axle stands under the car, along with the trolley jack and tyre. Even when you aren't fully under the car a trolley jack giving could result in a serious injury. People will look to your video for inspiration. It would be great to see you demonstrate and comment on how to approach these jobs in the safest way. Also wondering if you put seam seal back on with the wing??
Your a very lucky man today .... cheap spring compressor with a powerful impact gun and doing it in line of sight You need some investment in tooling .... better trolley jack and some quality axle stands with peg bolts in not self locking as lost a mechanic friend with those as he kicked them off by mistake and never realised Need to fabricate a workbench and a decent vice I have a floor mounted spring compressor and a set of quality spring compressor that is designed to be operated with an impact wrench worth every penny easier and safer That cheap jack collapses and scratches that wheel ... more expense that could be avoided Even if you jack it up and block it on quality blocks ( I have new railway sleepers to get cars high and even use scaffy board home made step ramps to get low floor cars higher so I can get my old Snap on jack underneath Lovely unit ... from small acorns ... great content as usual
HI Phil nice work getting that sorted i have the makita gun its fastening torque is 1000nm and a nut busting toque of 1600nm stay safe buddy and well done on all the new subs 👍👍
Love your chanel Phil ,couldn't watch you do the strut tho ,those things will take your head off ,at least point it at the neighbours mate ,can't wait to see the MiTo done
Another great job phil and tip if can but if struggle with drop links use a bar to apply pressure on anti roll bar if you pull lever up it will nip and stop joint from spinning.
Man you are so lucky. I broke my hand on a golfs rear spring and it didn’t even come out of the seating but slipped off my trolley jack I was using to compress the spring.
Good content as always Phil. I agree with the suggestion on a movable workbench it would save a lot of bending plus your not tripping over stuff on the floor. The impact wrenches are a game changer, I got the Makita one because I have batterys for other tools, not sure on the power on it but it's never failed to undo anything. Well done on the new subscribers.
Tip for anyone, If you hear a knock or clunk when you fully turn the steering wheel , tighten the steering rack mounts bolts to Max ,trust me it works ,another tip , when clamping coil springs at home , link/ tie some wire to the coils on levels as extra security
Good video Phil, but grab one of those floor mounted spring compressors with the securing chains. You can put the whole leg in. Far safer. I got mine second hand for £50. Well worth it.
Great job as ever. The Milwaukee M18 Fuel is the most powerful 1/2" battery impact gun, with 1400ft/Ib of torque. Awesome impact guns. Also if you compress the springs on the car, you can usually get your hand in the top to change the topmounts without removing the whole strut.
Like everyone else it scared me watching you with those spring compressors. You are very trusting of that little hydraulic jack on it's own, you've moved up a level with your new workshop so maybe time to move up a level with the equipment and practices too? I know the nut was fairly loose but using chrome vanadium sockets with an impact driver...please be more careful mate, you've a lot of people who watch you and probably copy you, you should be setting a good example. Good fix on the Mito, always liked the look of these, Alfa have always made good looking cars.
Liking the impact wrench, I've got a draper and it just doesn't quite have the power for some jobs so thinking of upgrading to one of those or the milwaukee.
When using those spring compressors always point them away from yourself just in case they let go I was cringing when I watched you tighten them try to tighten both equally be very careful good luck.
Are you happy with cross climate tyres on the front axle, and summer on the rear ? I researched this online before getting my first cross climate tyres, and some so called experts reckon you have to put cross climate on all 4, otherwise handling could be dodgy ? 🤔
Omg! I couldn’t watch please please please never stand over a compressed spring like that again it was scary to watch. Always treat them like a bomb waiting to go off, unless you have a caged spring compressor and only big garages and dealerships tend to have them. Other than that I’m new to the channel and I’d like to see you stay safe and post more content. 👍🏻
All this crawling on the floor is going to bugger up your knees... how do I know that😏 I also have them clamps but they are scary as fook. I got a bench vise and mounted it to a chair so I can move it wherever you need it, handy for holding struts etc when you need it.
Phil been with you for along time bud but your working practices aren’t showing the more professional image you wanted before you moved into the new unit. Putting the wheel underneath the lower wishbone isn’t going to stop the car squashing you. Use an axle stand and as for standing over the top of the compressed widow makers then sorry mate but you’ll be stood in Yorkshire and your gonads will be in Northumberland!,, Still enjoyed content.
The wings will look darker than compared to the bumper. I had a Mito in this colour and you could see a difference. Even my Brera V6 is the same with the red paint.
You need a decent vice, instead of wrestling with the tensioned strut on the floor or a ramp, also not good practice to stand over spring when compressing. As Stallone says “keep your arms and legs in the vehicle at all times “ Good video again and nice Alfa much better than salvage rebuild uk,which I can’t watch with all that down souf bollocks. Nice One keep em coming.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Phill, can you advise what websites do you shop for the car parts (cambelts, filters ,oils and body parts) And what workshop software do you use -Autodata, Elsawin etc? thanks
It’s sodding council speed humps wrecking everyones’s suspension prematurely... drop links top mounts control arms springs all getting unnecessary stress
It's because plastic parts are sprayed using conventional spray guns and metal panels are painted using rotational fan spraying by robots in the factory , bumpers meet the car on the production line already painted in a different spraying shop ready to fit
Blimey nipper!!! you're an accident waiting to happen! no axle stands! standing over a compressed road spring! I have seen a spring let go from compressor tool they travel! enjoy your videos but please do stuff safely.
I was almost sick watching you change that top mount. Please never do it like that again if that had of gone it would of gone right through you and probably the roof also. Not having a go but I have seen the damage that can be done when it goes wrong
Hey Phil that had me shouting at the screen then never stand over the spring if it slips it will take your head clean off. We call them spring clamps widow makers stay safe
lol Was thinking the same thing!
Obviously never seen a spring take off across a workshop, must have been a milkman before starting to fix cars
Cheers
Dear Lord, just got to that part in the video....
for love of god use axle stands, great video by the way
Phil, I recommend that you get a movable workbench, so then you reduce the number of times you have to bend down.
DeWalt tools are well rated and should save you a lot of time and effort. Would agree with the comments about caution when working on suspension struts and getting some axle stands - I always use them every time I have to raise my car to do a job and I only do a fraction of the work you do!

Ive seen someones jaw almost ripped off by one of those springs..Do not stand over one ever. Always point it towards your neighbours house.
Great work Phil looking forward to the next video thanks for keeping us updated.
👍
Scary job with those little spring compressors it's like a loaded gun haha, I'm gunna get myself some of those.. Great vid.. Your literally doing my dream job
Thats a nice little motor love the red colour when it time for the mini to come back to life take care and keep safe stephen
You're a very brave man using those £10 spring compressors 😂
Aside from the spring compressor comments that people have said. It would be great to see axle stands under the car, along with the trolley jack and tyre. Even when you aren't fully under the car a trolley jack giving could result in a serious injury. People will look to your video for inspiration. It would be great to see you demonstrate and comment on how to approach these jobs in the safest way.
Also wondering if you put seam seal back on with the wing??
Nice fix but my arse was twitching watching the spring being compressed 😂
Nice if you had a car lift would help you a lot, your videos are very good and helpful.
Your a very lucky man today .... cheap spring compressor with a powerful impact gun and doing it in line of sight
You need some investment in tooling .... better trolley jack and some quality axle stands with peg bolts in not self locking as lost a mechanic friend with those as he kicked them off by mistake and never realised
Need to fabricate a workbench and a decent vice
I have a floor mounted spring compressor and a set of quality spring compressor that is designed to be operated with an impact wrench worth every penny easier and safer
That cheap jack collapses and scratches that wheel ... more expense that could be avoided
Even if you jack it up and block it on quality blocks ( I have new railway sleepers to get cars high and even use scaffy board home made step ramps to get low floor cars higher so I can get my old Snap on jack underneath
Lovely unit ... from small acorns ... great content as usual
Great result as always Phil, this Mito is just about ready for its new home!!.
HI Phil nice work getting that sorted i have the makita gun its fastening torque is 1000nm and a nut busting toque of 1600nm stay safe buddy and well done on all the new subs 👍👍
Lovely Jubbly, coming along nicely, remember V B HENDERSON driving one of these around a go-cart circuit when they came out.
Love your chanel Phil ,couldn't watch you do the strut tho ,those things will take your head off ,at least point it at the neighbours mate ,can't wait to see the MiTo done
Always liked a red mito for a first or second car. Good interior
Another great interesting video 👌👌. Don't forget the right hand drop link 👌
Congratulations on the 10k Phil
That impact driver is a game changer mate. 👍
Good job Phil
Great video Phil 👍
Great stuff Phil
Great video looking forward to the next one
Good job on the top mount, that unit is great on camera compared to the last dark and damp little unit onwards and upwards phil👍
Phil ! , stop fanny around on the floor , get a good workbench !!! . Great channel pal
Great job as always Phil. When will the MINI feature again, poor thing is looking unloved in the corner..? :)
Good content as always Phil. I agree with the suggestion on a movable workbench it would save a lot of bending plus your not tripping over stuff on the floor. You need a ramp . My backs aching just watching 😂
Also a decent jack for you would be the Arcan from Costco not a lot of money but it’s an awesome jack
I had to cross my legs when you stood over the compressed spring !!!! Lmao take care mate.
Mick
I was crapping myself when he stood over it, if those clamps slip it will take your head off Phil, please be very careful
@@davep4589 it wasnt his head I was thinking of. He would never have anymore kids !!!!! Lol
Don’t stand over the compressed spring next time, i had to look away ahah
Exactly what I was thinking, always lay them horizontal on the floor and take care when compressing them.
Don't forget the droplink to order phil.
you made that look easy phil nice one
loving the content Phil keep up the good work, atb Steve
think Milwaukee do the most powerful impact gun.
i have the save dewalt as you. got a few so they share the same batteries:D
Hi Phil, changing the top mounts looked awkward to do,it's looking smart and should sell quick, for the spring clamp they are brilliant to use.
Safety first bro!
Great video Phil red look ok when it's outside just because under the lights
Great job as ever.
The Milwaukee M18 Fuel is the most powerful 1/2" battery impact gun, with 1400ft/Ib of torque. Awesome impact guns.

Keep it up mate great content 👍
Nice little car!
Get yourself over to the machinery auction sites (apex, cott&co) and treat yourself to some metal top benches. Cheap as chips.
Great video PHIL
Liking the impact wrench, I've got a draper and it just doesn't quite have the power for some jobs so thinking of upgrading to one of those or the milwaukee.
Screw fix has great savings over the next few days. Check them out.
No I'm not sponsored I've just seen a few adds.
Great video Phil 👊
When using those spring compressors always point them away from yourself just in case they let go I was cringing when I watched you tighten them try to tighten both equally be very careful good luck.
don't forget the tie bar Phil !
Are you happy with cross climate tyres on the front axle, and summer on the rear ? I researched this online before getting my first cross climate tyres, and some so called experts reckon you have to put cross climate on all 4, otherwise handling could be dodgy ? 🤔
Phil, don't do the droplinks up with the impact it ends up wrecking them learnt my lesson after a couple of times
Love it
get yourself pair of small mole grips and put them behind and your be able to tighten the drop link up .
I did top mounts on my Ford Focus not long ago, the spring pressure makes it just about impossible to rotate by hand, 🚗🚗
I’m sure machine mart must have the proper spring compressor that’s are safer than the black widow ones in the sales today
Hi mate where did u order that chrome door bit from I need one for mine
Personally I don’t like using impact tools as most often I torque bolts and nuts to factory specs, especially wheel lug nuts or lug bolts.
did i miss something about why the wing came off?
I'm not even a car guy but when I see somebody using spring clamps it always makes me cringe and expect the worse.
Great video you have a good work ethic just be a bit safer and you will get to be a wrinkly like me lol
All this crawling on the floor is going to bugger up your knees... how do I know that😏 I also have them clamps but they are scary as fook. I got a bench vise and mounted it to a chair so I can move it wherever you need it, handy for holding struts etc when you need it.

What about the Astra?
The wings will look darker than compared to the bumper. I had a Mito in this colour and you could see a difference. Even my Brera V6 is the same with the red paint.
Where would I find the price of it when you sell it Phil
Its for sale now Daz on facebook market place for £2500 👍
@@SeriousAboutSalvage thank you I will have a look

What has happened to the old Jag that was in the corner?
Easy to work on the alfa
Allegedly can't mix summer and all season/winter tyres. Grip at front, back end forget it. You need 2 more.
Did you kill it with yor new impact ??????
And do buy a proper trolley jack not Chad Valley thing you got
Ha ha... paint the blue handle black and pretend it’s De Walt
Bolt snapper that gun. Way too powerful
👍👍
👍
Hi Phill, can you advise what websites do you shop for the car parts (cambelts, filters ,oils and body parts)

Euro car parts or eBay ?
I found that gsf is better .but you need to shop around .ebay obviously))
It’s sodding council speed humps wrecking everyones’s suspension prematurely... drop links top mounts control arms springs all getting unnecessary stress
Holy 🐮.
You forgot the drop link in your summary of things to do.
I myself cringe when using spring compressors lol
Plastic too metal body colours will always be different for some reason.
The worst I've seen is on vauxhall again for some reason.
It's because plastic parts are sprayed using conventional spray guns and metal panels are painted using rotational fan spraying by robots in the factory , bumpers meet the car on the production line already painted in a different spraying shop ready to fit
Made me cringe putting the spring compressor on. Standing above it lol
front fog lights don't come into the mot.
I think as of 2018 they get checked on MOT plus Day time running light. The car can fail if they are not working.
phil ... good choice on the gun but i'd get yourself an electric ratchet to save time on jobs ...sealey is a good brand

No Milwaukee much more powerful believe one I've got is 1500nm in reverse!
that is a dewalt dcf899, it has a Breakaway Torque of 1625 Nm

How not to work on cars...
The audio is terrible
