For this video I used the Rode Wireless Pros in exactly the same way i'd normally use the DJI Wireless mic system for a few shoots and it highlighted some quirks (which is why i made this video). if anyone knows fixes to anything i mentioned pop em below for all to see.

Good review Chris, I’ve always been a big fan. Just bought the Rode system and I love it! What you perceive as ‘quirks’ however I see as strengths. I HATE when the receivers and transmitters all come on automatically when you take them out. It’s a feature for ‘dummies’ so you don’t forget to record. Ok but I am a TV Producer with experience so to SAVE BATTERIES as it usually takes a half-hour or so once the talent arrives and I mic them up ready NOW TO RECORD, ( I do a test meanwhile to ascertain that my receiver is getting a signal at the camera). Once we’re ready to roll, I power-up the transmitters and record directly to them as a 32 bit float backup. I then record in camera with all the audio synched! 32 bit is my backup if needed… Remember saving the batteries is a big issue if you shoot all day as you only have 7 hours max on one charge. This method is more efficient and will last a useable real-time 7 hrs instead of always being ON as this video suggests. So for me it’s not a ‘’quirk’ but a professional feature designed for efficiency and Chris yes l, in my usage, it is more flexible. Love your stuff man!! 🎬📸😎

I think it's very important that the recording can be stopped and started from the receiver and that there's a hold lock on the transmitters. For me, these are major flaws which will stop me buying the Rode units. The problem with the lav mics is also a major issue. 32 bit is fine , but it doesn't trump these flaws.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the hard work you do to bring us interesting and useful content.

I was wondering if you (or anyone else reading this) might be able to help with a question I have about both this Rode Wireless Pro system as well as the DJI Mic 2.
Can you transfer onboard 32-bit float files from the TX to an iPhone 15 Pro (which is equipped with a 10GBs USB-C port) by just connecting them directly by USB-C cable, and viewing the files on the TX just like any other external drive?
Rode's support tell me no (although one of their videos suggests otherwise) as the phone can't provide enough power. I asked if connecting both TX and phone to a usb-c hub with power would solve the issue, but was told that iOS devices still don't have the supported system to access the files.
I would really appreciate it if someone with either the Rode or DJI system and a new iPhone 15/Pro/Max could test to double check. I don't really understand why it can be done with a PC but not the new iPhone 15 Pro's with their flexible new USB-C connection.
The online user guide says that the only the desktop version of the Rode Central app allows to export on-board recordings on the TX, but it would be great if someone is able to double-check that too.
The reason I ask, is I am in the process of building a video rig around the iPhone 15 Pro and will be doing all post-production on the phone too. Pushing that expensive phone as far as it will go!

Caution: Connecting RODE w pro set to dji osmo action 4 via usb-c to usb-c cable results in about 50% of the videos not having sound after the first 1-20 seconds of the video.

I've been using them for a week. MAJOR ISSUE!! Which has made me want to return them. The clip for the lav mic falls off and so do the windshields. Another huge issue is that if you have a walking talent that you are following around, the lav will fall out of the holder of the clip very easily.. at that point you have a mic on the ground or shuffling inside their shirt. One of the holders plastic broke super easily that hodls the lav into place. Which completely ruins the point of these things. They need a more stable connection for all of their stuff. It's a real bummer because the audio quality was awesome.

The no stop lock when you've got the Rode's set to manual recording is frustrating. I use them 99% for internal recording for weddings and I have to take the transmitter out, turn off the recording, then turn back on the recording when I'm ready to mic up whoever it is. They're also still pretty bulky compared to DJIs if you just wanna use the magnet. I do love most other things about them though, super high quality, but if DJI put 32 bit float and a screw lock for the lavs for DJI Mic 2, I'll probably swap them out!

I have the DJI Mic and the Rode GO2! (which I use just for iPhone work or Insta 360 work) but I'm also semi-retired, so I not buying the new Rode because I also have the Tentacle-sync Track E because I like Timecode across everything. To be honest only use the DJI Mic with my little ZV-1 rig when we're capturing someone walking or in their car. I disagree that the Rode Lav is 'good' I use the Sanken COS11 which costs so much more, but they are good. for my main audio, I use Shure TL-48 that are the best LAV Mic I have heard but requires more power than the 'pro-consumer' systems provide. I'm not knocking the DJI or Rode which I think is great for this whole middle ground. If I was buying new I would probably go with the new Rode's because they're the best of the bunch right now. I still can't believe you're not over 100K. One thing Rode is pretty good about firmware updates to fix your issues.
