    • @MrJimOrb
      @MrJimOrb 7 років тому +5

      Mark Pearce I overclocked my i7 5820 on air and get the same thermals as these Ryzen chips in apples to apples tests. If you actually believe water is needed for Intel CPUs in terms of overclocking, you're misinformed.

    • @unlisted9494
      @unlisted9494 7 років тому +2

      Nope. People who are serious about their machine are going to buy the best option, which is intel. Just look at the buy rate for k-sku CPU's that never get overclocked. AMD may give you more performance for the money, but it's still 2nd best. Intel own 90% of the market. This isn't competition.

    • @unlisted9494
      @unlisted9494 7 років тому

      Also, mark, Intel needs an aftermarket cooler? No shit. IT DOESN'T SHIP WITH A COOLER. The only reason it would need liquid cooling is if your CASE is absolute junk and has terrible airflow pathing.

    Looks like Ryzen is better outside of gaming for applications that use more cores, and not too shabby inside of gaming, although the frame rate loss in Deus Ex, Tomb raider, and GTA V would be very noticeable.
    Ironically it looks like for business end applications Ryzen will be the king. What a strange state of events

      Keep in mind this is when paired with a 1080ti. I think most people buying $170-$250 CPUs will probably be pairing them with something like an RX 4/580 or a 1060, which will both lead to GPU limited scenarios in most games. Only the most CPU reliant games will show any difference in FPS. With that said, it's probably a better value to go Ryzen overall since gaming performance is generally on par and performance in workstation and other multitasking/multithreaded workloads is much better than, say, an i5.

      7700K's are a 300 dollar chip (cheaper with rebates) that do not require delidding.That is the most absurd nonsense I have ever heard. Not 400 dollar chips. And the best part about the 7700K's is, they out perform 400 and 500 dollar Ryzen chips in single core applications, and outperform 200 and 300 dollar ryzen chips in multi core applications. The 7700K is at this point the most well rounded chip on the market. Dare I say, it's perfect. Every series Ryzen has an area it seems to do very poorly in. That cannot be said about the 7700K. When you look at the tasks people actually execute compared to the tasks they claim to execute, things become weird. People seem to claim to render videos in handbrake all day, when in reality, they're playing counter strike and watching porn all day. The vast majority of the viewers on these channels thought Ryzen was a gaming chip. Not because they were told this, but because that's what they wanted. And that's not what they got..... After being fed a bunch of successful benchmarks by AMD, consumers became extremely frustrated with the poor performance they saw. One of the editors over at PC world was getting better gaming performance from a 5 year old i5 than he was his brand new 7 series Ryzen. This is because people don't generally run benchmarks all day. These synthetic benchmarks are garbage and don't account for real world activity. If all you're going to do is render videos, and run synthetics all day, you'll be more than happy with your 7 series Ryzen. If you're doing, literally, anything else with a computer, I wouldn't go near them because they're pricey and the 5 series Ryzens are lacking in areas equally priced Intel chips just aren't. If it's only about price to performance for you guys, you should be buying Intel now. A 200 dollar Intel chip will game better than everything Ryzen has to offer, and will do just fine for other tasks. Like a 6600K for instance.

    I'm thinking the Ryzen 5 1600x would be a good upgrade for my 6 year old 2600k. With having the newer AM4 B350 chipset tech: M.2, ddr4 3200mhz ram, (currently running 1600mhz) Pci express 3, And 6 cores 12 threads of processing power. Just over 400 bucks for cpu, motherboard, And ram? (sweet!) :)

      Yeah I know, (beta tester at this point) My Sandy is holding up very well (overclocked to 4.2 ghz) 850 EVO Samsung SSD, (Boot). 16 gigs of ram. Mostly want to use M.2 for boot, DDR4 3200 Memory, Pci-E 3, etc.. I figured when I save up the money for this Ryzen build (X1600) Most of the bugs will be ironed out. I don't want another 4 core 8 thread system moving forward. X99 is too cost prohibited for me. A good B350 chipset and a single "Great" GPU going forward. Eventually I also want higher resolution monitor 1440p or higher. I'm definitely weighing these interesting options.

Next step, forget that 1080p shit monitor, get 1440p or 4k and just game at that damn holy beautiful 60 fps. Who cares if you get 10% less frames at 1080p when it's above 150 fps?

      I admit 1440p is the best improvement you can do, but there is a massive difference between gaming at 60fps and gaming at 144fps with Freesynch/Gsynch
      Remember when console gamers used to say the human eye can't see above 30fps? That's what you sound like saying 60fps is all you need. If you ever used a synch monitor @ 144 you'd wince going back to 60fps.

    I have the B350 Tomahawk for my 1700. The 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 release and the 1.3 beta BIOSes were all a little mediocre, with the biggest changes coming in 1.1 from 1.0. But the 1.3 release? This is the Ryzen 5 support release, and with the microcode updates that have been included with it, I can finally get normal-ish POST times. Not only that, but I've noticed across the board that everything seems faster, and more stable overall, even in the OS. Overclocking has also been patched up, and voltages are now being supplied to the processor prpperly, leading to much more stable overclocking -albeit with somewhat higher tempuratures- and I'm genuinely far more pleased with my purchase now than I was when I bought the set, which is saying a lot considering how pleased I was when I got it.

    Can you repeat the tests with an RX480 (maybe even crossfire) as well? Lots of other benchmarks are showing that there seems to be a driver issue with the Nvidia cards, AMD cards seem to deliver better performance (comparing GTX 1060 and RX 480). Noticeable if using an intel system + RX480 and Ryzen + RX480. AdoredTV did a benchmark where the RX480 in crossfire scored better than the GTX 1070.
    Can you also try with 2600MHz and 3600MHz, Ryzen seems to gain a lot on higher memory clock speeds.

    It seems you need to bump the core voltage by atleast 0.025V to be stable though.
    I couldn't get OC profiles working through the Master Utility GUI thing, but it was a super easy overclock.
    When I compare it to my Skylake i5 build, I would much rather get Ryzen, with the slightly better price point.
    If you are going for a Ryzen 5 1500X, and isn't avalible (like at MSY Australia) a 1400 is a great alternative.

Between that and the GPU pricing problems from mining, it's been an unfun year for people building computers.

CPUs actually haven't gotten all that different since they were last supported for this to be hard to do, and this has been a comparatively short period of support for contemporary hardware. This is a transparent ploy from microsoft to force people away from their perfectly fine and even beloved windows 7 to the highly annoying data-mining operation that is windows 10

    Can't wait to see those prices on the i5 7600K drop
    So AMD can lower the costs to the 1500X

      Ryzen 5 1600 has better gaming than i5 7600k in 2019 LOL. That intel 4 core meme. I blame intel for fleecing their customers like that.
      They kept core counts low, so their i7's would disproportionally outperform their i5 chips. Why? So they could sell more i7's than i5's.

    I'm revamping my old PC, so I decided to buy the ryzen 5 1500X without hesitation, along with an MSI B350 board, which I have just found out is good for over locking, I already have an aftermarket cpu cooler. Also bought 16 gigs of DDR4 and a GTX 1050 TI. Let me know what you think

    What temperature are you using? Tdie or Tctl? Tctl, if I am reading documentation correct, is not the actual temperature but is what is used to control the fans... so the 95w models have a 20 value offset compared to Tdie which seems to be the actual temperature?

    Linus, why are most professional mouse-pads black when the whole purpose of an optical sensor is to obtain information from the reflected light? Wouldn't it be more efficient to have white mouse-pads for optimal performance as they would maximize the information received the sensor?

    Hey, hey from the future, core count and speed don't need to be all to important anymore since a glitch that occurred in some of AMD's now(in the future) called last-gen Ryzen. this glitch was first discovered in some 7nm chips, however, the early accidents didn't really went public but the thing the most had in common was that there where high voltage peaks involved after which the pc would be declared dead since its instructions wouldn't be controllable anymore or would be very unstable and glitching a lot. most of these(few) pc's where almost fully thrown away since it seemed to affect almost all the hardware in those pc's. when quite a few years later one of these pc's was powered on by someone who had kept the machine, it worked surprisingly enough, he claimed that after keeping the device on power it started after a few months. at first the experience was reported as quite normal however soon it seemed to have an actual intelligence and will the system was reported to ignore the os and directly respond to its surroundings, soon the os wouldn't be booted at all and the pc would create its own interfaces and was able to override its own limitations connecting to and directly altering the physical world. Soom after this some comparable examples started to apear until the government made them illegal(all ryzen not only from 7nm) and took action to destroy them. while most people didn't care because their AI powered cluster pc's are fast enough to do almost annything realtime, we do care for this organic response and the beyond viritual capabilitys those pc's hold, so we made places to keep them hidden and out of reach of the wrong people. so now I am here a little early waiting for the first 7nm and the last gen.
    for those who wonder that pc from above is safe now.
    oh shit wrong time.

    Would you rather recommend an i5 7500 or a ryzen 1500x for 1080p 60fps gaming? I´m also gonna use the PC for music production, game recording with obs and I might some day do video editing or 3d stuff. I think the price would be about the same because i wouldn´t have to buy a cooler but then buy a more expensive motherboard.

    Planning to build a Ryzen 5 1600X with a MSI GTX 1060 with 6GB of GDDR5. Planning to have 8 Gigs of G.Skill Ripjaws V Memory all on a MSI B350M Gaming Pro Micro Atx Board. Going to be cooling my CPU with a Cooler Master MasterLiquid 120. All that will be in a Corsair Carbide 88R Micro-ATX tower running on a 64 bit copy of Windows 10 Home. Anyone have suggestions, thoughts, anything I should change?
