Hey guys, when this video launched, it contained some erroneous information due to unit conversion errors that made the van's existing lead acid batteries sound like they had a lot less capacity compared to the DJI lithium batteries. Sadly, we actually caught the error before publishing but failed to address it properly. We have now cut that info from the video (apologies if you can detect a couple weird cuts) and are improving our processes to mitigate this happening again..
In the end, the DJI batteries are used to power the gaming elements, while the lead acid batteries power the van's functions. Altogether, Emily has effectively double the watt hours compared to before the project: the lead acid batteries are 400Ah x 12V = 4800Wh, but you can only use roughly 50% of the capacity of a lead acid battery, giving us a useable 2400Wh from those two batteries- plus the 2048Wh we get from the two DJI Power 1000s.

Its depends, you can use 100% but then the battery will only last 100 cycles, if you only use the wan for weeks in the summer the battery will die of age before you reach 100 cycles. Do you live in a wan you only want to use the battery down to 50% and get 500 cycles before the battery is dead.

Lithium batteries are fantastic for power density but if space isn't an issue sodium ion all the way, a lead acid in recyclability and longer life , wider temps so safer than lead acid . I've only found importable sodium ion batteries and would love to see them tested .CanadianSolar has some new bifacial panels capable of 475 watts max. Not affiliated , just solar enthusiast and like Canadian built. less shipping and supports local R&D. Just as suggestions , I've been looking into this and new technology every year.

In the military they deploy commercial electronics solutions in (like computers) in ruggedized boxes called transit cases. The computers are used as-is in the battlefield running inside their transit cases, like a little rack. That topic could make a good video: how the military uses transit cases to “ruggedize” conventional commercial hardware.

They also tend towards starting off using things like Toughbooks or Thinkpads or even those Dells that are simply called Rugged.
Working certain places, in particular pharma factories, we used to have everyone hand in their phones and electronic devices before could go near the plant. Those of us that needed to be contacted, got issued with what are termed 'EX' phones (ateX/ieceX) that are hardened in a different way.
You really do not want a regular phone around when a tanker of toluene is being emptied.

Could it be that your cab has shock absorbers anyway?

Yes it's a nice single package but misleading.

READ THE PINNED COMMENT TO SEE THE CORRECTION MADE. MY ORIGINAL COMMENT BELOW:
24:26 Correction, it does not have a larger capacity. The old battery system they were looking at Ah (Amp hours) whereas the new system they were looking at Wh (Watt hours). When you convert the Ah system to Wh it has at least double the storage capacity of the sponsor product, and that's with only discharging those batteries to 50% (something considered good practice on AGM batteries). If you look at the full capacity the old system has ~4x the storage capacity of the sponsor product.
As a tech media company you should really be looking at the details for tech like this when doing sponsor segments. This is the same as if you were doing a wifi product sponsor segment and said megaBYTES vs megaBITS. Very misleading.

The DJI battery is awesome - but it is repeatedly said they have more capacity than the 400ah battery bank and that is not true. The 400ah should have 4800Wh, with around 2400Wh usable. This is more than the claimed useable 2048Wh capacity of the dual DJI setup, which is probably closer to 1638Wh if the lithium 80% useable rule of thumb holds true for their batteries. I get that ad reads are ad reads, but this seems to be an actually false statement with the information provided.

Don't forget that for PCs that could be powered directly from DC instead of AC, and get a bit more efficiency, there are the HDPlex DC power supplies like the 500W model that is really not expensive for what it does, and seems to be of really impressive quality. It looks like 500W would be enough for each of these builds here, and these PSUs take between 12V up to 48V which is perfect for the battery system here. They also have a higher power 800W model that runs off up to something like 60V or something, but much more expensive though.

While the batteries are pricy, the watt hour is pretty equivalent at 5120wh. The battery's are also "Smart" with a warming blanket built in if it gets below freezing it will still allow for charging.

18:15 I'm getting really frustated with the inaccuracy of the information given by LTT. In the begining of the video 9:40 you can see that there are 2 200 Ah battery's, assuming they are 12V which is the minimum for a camper (they can also be 24V or higher). You can calculate the total capacity of the power system: 2 * 200 Ah * 12V = 4800 Wh (with lead acid not being able to discharge fully you get arround 4000 Wh). While the DJI power bank is only 1000 Wh. Linus mentions that the DJI has multiple times the capacity which is clearly not true. I can understand that when shooting this video this wasn't clear, but where is your pinned comment correcting this information like you guys promised in a video previous summer?? You have a whole engineering department and none of them can calculate the capacity of a battery bank?? This is false advertising and should be illegal. So, those DisplayPort to USB C Alt Mode cables you got are incredible! I got the HDMI version instead of DisplayPort myself, and will order the DisplayPort one as well at some point.
Though, please note there are more interesting versions that also inject 100W Power Delivery instead of just 5V power like the ones here in the video. Here on the PC side there are two USB Type A cables, one for touch (and maybe audio?) and one for power. On the better version of the cable, you have the same Type A for touch and a Type C for Power Delivery.
Also, there are both straight and 90 degree angled versions of these cables as well, so the 90° on the monitor side it's a bit cleaner and less prone to breaking compared to a straight very small Type C cable that could easily break if hit.
Also... I paid more like $35 for mine and it works perfectly with my Asus XG17AHPE at 1080p 240Hz and probably goes much higher. I don't know if the one you got is more expensive because if works at higher bandwidths, but it's so much more expensive wow!

I continue to wonder why, in every "installed in a car" video i've ever watched, everyone goes out of their way to turn a DC power source into an AC power source, only to have the Power Supply convert it back again?!?
10 years ago I installed an Xbox 360 into a rental van right off the battery (fused, of course) completely eliminating the power brick, and negating the need for an inverter!

    • @TzDavid95
      @TzDavid95 5 місяців тому

Because they're not running an Xbox......there's power effiency, battery charging and a whole heap of other things that come into play when using DC in a vehicle. You can't just run any electronic device from your battery.....your battery alone wouldn't last even running the xbox by itself....you'd barely get decent gameplay out of it
