    REMEMBER: Any of the settings I add to make up the MyBase.pp3 CAN be altered as you process the image; all we are doing here is making a preset that gives us THE BEST POSSIBLE ACCURATE VIEW of our raw file in its UNPROCESSED state - it's always best to start there!

      Thank you Andy! This is good stuff and i am already using this method since a while too. What confused me a little bit, is your suggestion about „defringe on“ in standard settings. In my experience, this defringe - tool is doing a very good job, when fringing shows up in a pic. If no fringing can be seen, the defringe unneccessarily can steal some colors in details, where i wanted to keep it: clothes, church windows, flowers.
      Thats, why my basic profile comes with „defringe off“, but i am pretty sure, there is a reason to switch it on. May be, wildlife doesn‘t contain those colors in question, so removing them by defringing automatically could be a good idea?
      Another thing: are you using camera or lens profiles? These also can be set in mybase, may be in several bases, and then let them be applied by dynamic profiles. This really saves a lot of clicks and time
      😉

      I have to say that I've not personally come across any 'edge colour-robbing effects' with defringe ON, but I'll keep an eye out for it. Yes, you can set up dynamic profiles, but for me, it's too much like hard work! Once I'm working on an image, I may well opt to change the input profile to a custom dcp - ua-cam.com/video/-Zz_t_pRdp4/v-deo.htmlsi=PFGjUlaIdMc8yGm2

      Great tutorial. I've got my input profile set to ProPhoto but how do you get the output profile to show ProPhoto? Do I have to use the icc profile creator? I'm also on a Mac. Thanks.

    I've watched a ton of tutorials on RT and DT and all of photos ALWAYS come out better using RT! Please, more RT tutorials in the future!

    Thanks a ton for this! I tried going in blind to photo editing and this has gotten me further than I could have researched on my own.
    Who would have guessed that stubbornness isn't a virtue. Cheers!

    Great vid! I had been tinkering with that function myself and your choices are very interesting. Just made a new one right there...😁
    Personally I like to add the Profiled lens correction at the Transform tab.

      Nothing wrong in doing that, but bare in mind the lens database is not as up to date as that used in Darktable, and neither are as up to date as Lr/ACR/CoP etc.

    We’re talking about the raw tab. For some reason, I don’t have the “demosaing” tools in it.
    There're a raw white points and a dark frame only.

    Hello and welcome. I want to thank you for all the RAWTHERAPEE videos they are amazing. I have a question why version 5.10 saves JPG files only in 96dpi resolution? 5.9 saved at 300 dpi, which was suitable for printing. I have a problem how to change it. Thank you for the tip.

      Hi Robert. With regard to jpeg resolution, my installation is saving at 300ppi (not dpi, as dpi a print resolution), so I'm struggling to answer your question.

    Andy, can you explain why you are using camera standard as opposed to automatic or a camera specific profile?

    • @AndyAstbury
      @AndyAstbury  6 місяців тому

      As I said in the pinned comment, you can change values if you like, and we are only looking for a neutral preview. Auto matched can occassionally cause a problem, if the dcraw data RT uses doesn't have a particular camera listed. The Nikon Z9 is NOT listed, AS YOU CAN SEE in the video! And if you shoot more than one camera model, a custom profile applied to all raws isn't going to work well is it.

      That's what I thought. So, you are still using either the automatched, Adobe or a custom profile? Do you have a preference? I'm shooting a Canon R7 and with RT5.10 my camera is now fully supported and I have a choice. I went from converting to Dng then using RT dev releases to get here.

      Andy, thank you for all you do I've learned so much from your videos yet I've just scratched the surface of RT. I've tried DT a couple of times but just couldn't get comfortable with the workflow. It would be nice if you could cover the new features/changes with RT5.10

    • @AndyAstbury
      @AndyAstbury  6 місяців тому

      DT is well worth using, but you basically have to ignore all the crap and bullshit, and this stupid display/scene referred workflow thing. RT can be very frustrating because, for instance, you can only add 1 gradient filter. With DT, you can add multiple instance of virtually every module, and each one can be masked; so you can add exposure to one part of the image, then take it away from another part of the image by using a second instance of the exposure module.
      In all honesty, I can only think of Capture One as being something that comes even close as a raw editor, and that costs money. As a very long term Photoshop devotee, I find working with DT very similar, as multiple module instances and their masking capabilities, FEEL like a Photoshop layered non-destructive workflow.
      It can look like a steep learning curve, but honestly, it's nowhere near as bad as it looks..

    In colour management, why do you use camera standard rather than auto matched camera profile please ?

    The problem I had was that I wasn't logged on as Administrator on windows.
    I could create the base pp3 file and save to a different directory but had to manually then copy to the c:/program files/rawtherapee/5.9/profiles.(I think you need Admin privileges to copy to program files directory?)
