Follow me on Instagram: / lets_go_aviate I compete in the 2024 South African National Spot Landing competition. The conditions are quite tricky, so how will I fare?
Great video man! I helped hold the obstacle clearance the competition in Stellenbosch a few weeks back, great to see whats happening from the pilots POV.
Great work! I enjoyed your video very much. Just a question. Would you have been allowed to use a slip on the flapless engine off landing? That way, you could approach closer and higher.
Thanks. Yes we can slip, and that's also the technique I practised. Usually I'm too high then I slip the last energy out on final. I practised my circuit size to come in slightly high in different conditions, however I didn't adapt enough (I thought I did) to the change in conditions on the day, especially not noticing the change in wind direction from a crosswind from right to a crosswind from left, that didn't leave much opportunity to use the slip as you saw. Lesson learnt is one can practise it to perfection but if one misses a simple wind direction change then one is screwed 😅

I looooooove the 150, learned to fly in one in the 90’s, an aerobat no less. Something my instructor loved to show me every flight.
Thanks for sharing this - didn't realise there were landing competitions.
Pleasure
Like the fighting spirit Jaco...1st landing was a peach...just keep working on it captain
Thanks, I'll keep at it

@LetsGoAviate Thanks for your reply. I thought you did very well anyway
Still good skills exhibited and stuff to work on, that is a win-win
Win-win agreed. Definitely stuff to work on!
Awesome stuff! Come join us this weekend at Aerofarm for stol & spot landing comp. Going to be great. We have good food and camping facilities
That was the plan but it's looking like I might not make it. I hope this event is super successful and becomes an annual fixture 💪
@ that’s unfortunate! For sure the plan is to have it as an annual fixture!
What aircraft is IUF?
Edit: Nevermind. I see a 172!
